It’s been a while since I read the first in this series, The Debt Collector, and I forgot how much I enjoyed it. So, I read the 2nd one today and it was just as good. However, if you don’t like a lot of killing then this book is probably not for you.
I can’t even begin to tell you how many mafia guys were killed. Jack Winchester is simply awesome. Unfortunately, his girlfriend, Dana, and her, Jason felt they had to leave Jack once his sister and Dana were kidnapped, to bring Jack out into the open. Well, he came out! And he killed everyone.
No sex and very little romance and the F-bomb was used 36 times, as it should be when a book is written about the mafia, or drug dealers, or assassins, or any really bad person. Authors who write those kinds of book and don’t swear might as well write Christian books, IMO.
As to the narration: Adam Gold is a wonderful narrator.
Jon Mills continues the story of Jack, a character you love and want to know more about,in yet another gripping novel I wanted to finish before coming up for air! He brings you into the characters lives in such a way you can’t walk away from the story, a gripping page turner that has you so immersed you’re not putting it down because you don’t want to miss anything ....then you realize it will be there when you return....it’s a novel not a tv show....and one I can’t wait to get to the next part of! Thank you for my escape with characters I feel like I know, and yet can’t get enough of ! Want to read anything he’s ever written now, and most likely WILL
Jack Winchester former assassin for the NYC mob, now in hiding (sort of) in Maine talks his on/off girlfriend Dana into going to NYC for New Years Eve. He's planning on seeing "friend" Eddie and his sister and reconnecting with Dana.
Seems it's a good time for Dana's son to get out of town as he's hooked up with the local drug distributors and needs to do a pickup in NY. Jason is heading down the same road as his dead Dad.
Once in NY, Jack finds his friend Eddie dead and sister kidnapped by the Sicilian Mafia who is here to collect monies owed by the mob now that Jack's former boss is dead. Needless to say, don't mess with Jack, it's not pretty but definitely effective.
I'm absolutely hooked. Read the first two books of this series in two days. And, ill be going on to read number three in a few minutes. Jon Mills has a way with words, that's for sure. He makes you fall in love with a cold blooded killer with a warm heart. Jack may be changing his ways after a childhood friend replays an old debt. I can't wait to see what's up ahead for Jack.
I've just finished the first two books inthe Debt Collector series and will definatley now buy the 3rd.. Although the books are quite violent and the main character Jack so flawed you just can't put them down. The intense struggle with right and wrong with morality keeps you guessing as to the decisions and direction this man will take and wonder if he can possibly survive his choices. These books are well written and compelling.
Jon Mills is an author I'm quite familiar with. I read the 3rd one first and quickly rectified that. Except for the fate of Dana and her teenage son this series could be a stand w. One against six gunmen is sure death for any mobster, but Jack has his own outlook on that scenario. Excellent development of characters.
I went straight from book 1 to book 2 and have to say this one held more tempo and a little less love, which is more of what I was expecting from book 1.
We learnt more about Jack's past in this book which, which filled in certain gaps, obviously purposely left out in book one.
The series so far is an easy read and one I'm happy to continue with.
I really enjoyed this. The writing was believable, the dialogue realistic, the pace fast enough. I liked the characters, too, well drawn out and very human. A very good read. I liked the first book in the series enough to buy this, #2, and I'm about to buy the 3rd. He's doing something right!!
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading books 1 and 2. I recently been doing alot of audible books. But I found these books easy to follow and quite the page turners. They have been a great find. I'm glad I took a chance on reading them and can't wait to start book 3. Thank you Jon Mills for the chance to read your work. Keep it up.
This book kept me engaged and interested. Although this is fiction, it reminds me how easy it is to become a victim of drugs and how easy it is to become ensnared in someone else's money maker. I am also anxious to see how women are portrayed in future books. Not the best so far.
An entertaining blast into American gun violence and crime with a new solitary hero cleaning the mean streets. A familiar theme of bad guy turned good with a dose of lost love and scorched ground. I'm looking forward to the next outing in which I guess our hero becomes a peripatetic protector.
Yes, you’re going to want to have Jack in your corner and you’re going to want him to care about you and save you. he is now going to use his skills for the good of other people and help them get away from evil men who harm them. He really has a good heart you’re going to love the book.
Read this as freebie from the bookbub email listing. Good story, now want to read the others. Good pace, good characters, would have been better reading the first in the series before this, but it has enough backstory to get the gist of the setting. Would make a good film or TV series with the right director. Not going to get into the actual book here, read it for yourself
I’ve read the first two books in the series and like that they’re short, yet action-packed. It’s kind of an abridged version of Jack Reacher. I plan to continue reading the rest of the series to see what kind of trouble finds Jack Winchester next.
Jack Winchester is an independent force with which to be reckoned. The story is fast-paced, further develops the former mobster, and has its own twists and turns. You will not be disappointed if you enjoyed the first book in this series!
I think I am hooked on John Mills., after reading The Debt Collector I had to immediately buy This and I read it through in one day. I like the fact that the books stand alone, but they tell a story all their own. He just has Jack Winchester as his main character. I highly recommend this book.
This is a good story, has a lot off police work kind of. I like the idea of this jack doing right after being a mob guy. Is easy to read and keeps you awaken all the way
Read The Debt Collector and really enjoyed it, so I thought I would give Vengeance a try. Another great book. I am now a fan and will read the rest of the series. Very fast paced and a fast read as well . I highly recommend this book!
The Jack Winchester series is really good. The plot, the twists and turns make it an interesting story. Lots of good characters. Looking forward to another one of these. Highly recommend
I just finished reading the first two books of the series and they were ok but not the greatest I've ever read.I will probably read the rest of the series just to see what happens next. LOL
Another fast paced enjoyable book from Jon Mills. Definitely recommend this book to other thriller readers. A definite read from cover to cover in one sitting. Keep them coming!
Jack Winchester finishes what he started in the first Debt Collector. This book is action packed and keeps you fully involved. Will definitely looking forward to Jack's next step in his journey.
I've read both Debt Collector and Debt Collector 2. Great characterization and spatial descriptions in both books. I can't wait to read the next in the series. If you like Jack Reacher novels you will like these too.
I was immediately drawn into Jack’s crazy, chaotic life as he seeks to right wrongs and deal with the bad guys. I’m about to start the next book in the series - highly recommend
Action packed bullets flying, Jack against the Mafia they didn't have a hope. Lots of violent action and well portrayed characters, gangsters and no-hoper drug dealers all in Jack's sights. What does the future hold now he's on his own ?
Sorry - I just couldn't care about the characters and the story was so predictable. The rebellious teen that's running drugs & get shot with heroin to keep him working, the conflicted girlfriend, the Mafia types that are such stereotypes. Didn't hate it, but ......
I read the first two books in the series quickly. I like the length, not too short, not too long. Pretty good story, I like the character and it's quick read.
