Sadly a bit out of date with no update on the horizon (I had a chance to meet the author once) but this book set my standard for guidebooks to truly give you a sense of a place.
I loved this book which for me made perfect bedtime reading, stimulating and calming at the same time. Thirty nine short chapters with the adventures ranging from the ritual inhaling of incense to a night out at the urbane Shanghai Club. If you're going to Tokyo, take this along to see what has changed and for pointers on how to get to the places and activities still there. I found I had at most scratched the surface the three days I was there in the 1980s.
My only beef: conversion of yen prices to dollars (even though now out of date) was buried somewhere in the text. And, of yes, the title is Little AdventureS in Tokyo.
