Killing has never been something Keo shied away from, but the events of the last year have made him rethink his bloody past. Except nothing lasts forever. Now, Keo has embraced his old ways and set his sights on a new target--and there is nothing more dangerous than a man with nothing to lose.
For Lara and those on the Trident, an encounter with a new group of survivors pulls them even further off course. It doesn't seem to matter how hard Lara tries to steer clear of Mercer's war on the ghouls; fate seems intent on drawing her into the conflict.
Meanwhile, the fighting rages in Texas, with Mercer's kill teams roaming the land and collaborators on war footing. Caught in the middle, Danny, Gaby, and Nate are desperate to reach the coast, but find themselves pawns in a nightmarish game of cat and mouse instead.
In this penultimate volume in The Purge of Babylon series, loyalties will be tested and destinies embraced, and the road to salvation will finally be revealed to those brave enough to answer the call of the Horns...
I think Sam finally lost me. The last 5 books were just too repetitive, barely anything new was introduced to move the plot forward. The same scenarios happen over and over just with new bad guys and some of the same old ones. Nothing is plausible considering how little people there are anyway.
I just read a series where a main character got shot in the leg, and guess what? He couldn't fight or walk well for a few months. Here, gun shots are like mosquito bites. No matter where they are hot, they are fine the next day.
After 8 books of instant love between people who just met, flirting that makes you want to puke while they are facing certain death, Gaby can't believe someone was flirting with her? Ugh give me a break.
And if I have to hear in every conversation how smart and great Lara is one more time I may shatter my iPad. She has done nothing, that group in fact has done nothing since book 3. Enough already Sam, I get it, you want us to think Lara is great and she has an important role in your final book, but it has not at all read that way. It's freaking annoying.
I love the world he created but we are on book 8, well 10 if you include the Keo books, and really we should be on book 4. Will was turned, they fled the island, live on a boat, a new group of humans have emerged as a threat to the towns. Two sentences I've summarized the last 5 books. You can now skip them because you've literally missed nothing
SPOILER ALERT: If you're not familiar with the Purge of Babylon series, stop reading now and go read books 1-7 (as well as the two side-story books), then come back. Go ahead, we’ll wait. (Soft elevator music playing in the background) Okay, you all caught up now? Good. Let’s get started.
I’m going to admit right up front, I LOVE this series. I’ve read my fair share of apocalypse fiction and this one is right up there with the best. Interesting characters, unique plot lines, good pacing, authentic dialogue, a nice smattering of humor and just enough surprises to keep you on your toes. Sure, there are a few of the common tropes typical in the genre. Two of the main characters just happen to be former Army Rangers and they just happen to run across a couple of super hot gals to rescue. A little too convenient maybe but everything else is so damned good, I’m giving the author a pass. You're welcome, Sam (I can call you Sam, right) Full review on the blog: http://www.knockinbooks.com/reviews/t...
I have read every book in this series, but after Book 7 I almost quit. I felt that Sisavath had finally drug out this story way beyond the ability to retain the integrity of the story-line. I gave book 7 three stars and one of those was a pity star, because I was such a HUGE fan of this series. I decided, after some deliberation, to go ahead and read this, as I have so much already invested in the series that I now feel committed to finish. Well, I am happy to say that I am so glad I did. This book was so much better. Not like the earlier books, still somewhat repetitive, but it did move along at a better pace and added new and interesting turns in the story. I gave this 4 stars, no pity stars included, and I am even looking forward to Bones. I thought I would never say that I was looking forward to the end of the Purge series, but I so want it to end with a strong finish.
Speechless....and for me that's nothing short of miraculous.
I'll warn you ahead of time, this might end up long. I started reading when I was 3 yrs old and I've spent at least half my life with my nose in a book. Or a few inches from a Kindle screen. (I'll be 50 in December.) I read Mandingo when I was in 4th grade along with a book about Bonnie and Clyde and a romance novel called Savage in Silk. Over the years since then I've read about 15-20 Stephen King books-to include The Stand and Tommyknockers, the entire Left Behind series and The Sword of Truth series. Just this past year, in addition to this amazing series, I've read the Walking Dead novels and the entire Zombie Fallout series. So you can see, I'll read just about everything. This-The Purge of Babylon series-has blown me away. I've loved the storyline, the characters, the way it's written and the fact I can hold all 9 books on my Kindle. If an author is any good, the book(s) will play out in my mind like I'm watching a movie. The Purge of Babylon would be an amazing movie
Finally back on track! All the characters are involved in the book again (not just "the times and adventures of boring Keo" like the last book or two). Even Keo becomes more interesting again because the book is more balanced with the inclusion of all the familiar characters - and some new faces as well. I'm glad Mason is still around, he's such a great character lol. Very funny and entertaining. I can't even dislike him even though I'm supposed to! And - finally - Will!! No spoilers. Just....finally!!! Yay! Great book. Not as fantastic as the fist few books in the series, you can't beat those, but definitely back on track. Very entertaining read! Love this series.
I’m actually reading these books a second time now. I very rarely revisit most authors (one exception is Stephen King) so this is a real compliment ;)~. I couldn’t recommend this author more. The writing is top notch and the characters come to life. They have humor, love, gut wrenches, action, just a very well rounded series. They are just as good on this second pass as the first time I read them!
I'm really enjoying this series. It s just plain fun, fast paced and substantive in its nature. Sisavath has not only a great sense of humor but a way with wording and timing. For me it's always been about the timing.
I like story line, the characters and the sense of timing the writer has. A good book is both riveting and always has a bit of fun in it.
Great series! Each book has a new twisted hell. Each character is so developed, when you read what's going on with each one, you get a whole different thinking. The undead creatures come out at night. Reading this series with that in mind, I'd get tense with the characters as they were worrying about the coming darkness!
Never made it this far six years ago I quit at book 6 because of the turn of events and I got tired of waiting for you to finish writing! I’m very impatient but I’m glad I took the chance this time while re-reading the series to get past my disappointment and go on to the end this time. Didn’t hurt that I didn’t have to wait on any of the books this time either😂
This is supposed to be e penultimate book in the series. I can see how Sisavath is beginning to draw events to a conclusion. There is still a lot left to tie up and I look forward to reading the final book.
I sometimes go years in between books of this series and the characters are so memorable I pick up right where I left off. Awesome writing, awesome action and plot. One of the best series of this genre.
Poor quality copy from kindle. Pages missing, about 15 in the first quarter of this book. Had to return book and buy it again to get a useable copy. Really enjoyed the book.
Intense, full of action, and great characters. Everything that makes a story great! A fun to read series with each book surpassing the last in terms of action and mystery. I can't wait to read the next one.
I’ve enjoyed every single book in the series so far. The characters are easy to get attached to and the action is nonstop. I’m only sorry that it’s almost over.
3.5 stars. This book and the one before it should’ve been condensed into one story. Not enough happened in either to move the story forward enough to warrant 2 books. I kept with it to get to the finale and I hope the resolution is executed better than these last few books.
These are some of the most addictive books I've read. Sam weaves a story that engages the reader from the first page. You genuinely care about the characters and can't put it down!
I have been reading this series non stop since I discovered it. I keep thinking I will get tired of it but it has me hooked. The Horns of Avalon has been the best yet and I can't wait to read the last book. Definately worth your time to read.
What can i say about this series of books? They are brilliant reads and this one is no exception. Where to begin! Well. No ones safe. There's danger at every turn for the characters in this book. Throughout there is tension, drama, shocks and revelations for the characters and readers alike. My favourite characters go from one danger to another and never seem safe. Just when you think things might get easier for them it all goes wrong again. I'm excited to see where Sam Sisavaths final book in this series takes us but I'm also filled with dread as I love all the characters and want them all to make it to the end, I don't think they all will though. If you love reading apocalyptic books then you need to read this series of books. I'm going to read the series again in preparation for the end of what's been a brilliant, nerve wracking, funny and entertaining series of books! I just hope the waits not too long.
The good news: the book's worth the few dollars and several hours spent reading it. The not-so-good news: it's getting predictable. The author should have wrapped up this series during the seventh book. That would have made this series a classic. While still a fun read (hey, we all love Danny, right?), it was starting to repeat itself. I swear there were scenes I'd already read in a previous book: Oh my, they get trapped in a building... again. Someone gets shot and miraculously recovers without any trace of infection... again. While I'll probably read the last book (because I've come this far, darn it), I hope I don't have to read about another night trapped in a barn or a bank. Still, I recommend this series.
