ARC REVIEW

I love the Roaring Twenties the dresses, art nouveau, the dancing, the Jazz! I'll pass on the gin though. I really liked Alecia I think if I had been alive in the twenties I would have been like her a little country mouse moving to the big city with dreams of being a jazz baby. I like Ivan because he has accepted his lot in life even after what happened to his family and he's all about the here and now and not dwell on what has happened, he likes his job and he does it well. I love the

If I Had You evokes the reckless glamour of the early twentieth century, mixed with political intrigue. If you enjoy historical romance or other genres set in the 1920s, Hiestand's first book in The Grand Russe Hotel series will delight.

Set in the Roaring 20’s in the the luxurious Grand Russe Hotel in London, and populated with glamorous people, jazz music, dancing and flappers, this novel explores a time frame not often found in novels. Add in intriguing characters and Russian and British politics, and a murder scheme and as they say, the plot thickens.
Alecia Loudon, a secretary to a married couple of aging actors struggling to find work, longs for excitement and loves the music and da

Get swept up in the 1920s London romance and life of Ivan and Alecia. I totally loved this because it took place during a very special time for women, a time when women were taking great pains to be seen as independent beings and testing the constraints society has long placed upon them. Seeing the 1920s from the perspective of a Russian immigrant and a London newcomer was interesting. The 1920s were a bit different across the pond but the thrill of Jazz, the modernizing world and the temptation ...more

This story takes place in the 1920's in England in the not-so-glamorous areas of London. The setting is the historic Grand Russe Hotel. The owner and the patrons have their secrets. Alecia wants to be a flapper and have adventures. Instead, she works for a small wage as a secretary. At night, she sneaks down to hear the music coming from the nightclub. Ivan has lost his proud Russian heritage and works as night watchman. He encounters Alecia, and they are attracted to each other. I loved how Iva ...more

This was a sweet little book. There was a lot to like about it. The time setting was interesting and the characters strong. This is a romance book however there is a lot more going on with it than just a love story which is a pleasant change. I felt it was maybe a little long but overall I really enjoyed it.

This is a book I will remember long after I finish it and I'm happy that If I Had You is the start of a new series. I love the 1920s and the way women's roles were changing during that time. Ivan is a yummy hero with a great character and I hope to see him again in the series.

It's been too long since I've come across a romance novel with such a unique plot and setting. This novel brought me back to my teen years when I would get A's on my history tests, not because I'd retained the material from boring school textbooks, but because I'd read about the time period and events from a well-researched, thoughtfully written historical romance novel, with an unforgettable and intriguing heroine and hero. This author delivers all of that, and more. Apart from what I learned a ...more

A okay read for me ,most of the story was good but it dragged on a bit in places. Ivan was my favorite character ,so serious but sweet.

Traveling to the 1920’s, an era that is notable for the multitude of social changes, and several upheavals in the political realm with the conclusion of World War I and the realignment of several monarchies throughout Europe. Thus, the incursion of Russian émigrés, titled and not, into England after the fall of the final Romanov Tsar.

Here we find Alecia, newly arrived to London as a career woman and personal secretary to the owners of The Grand Russe Hotel. She’s a diligent, rather innocent and

Alecia Loudon is a secretary for actors Richard and Sybil Marvin as they all reside in the Grand Russe Hotel in London. Alecia is quite naive and isn't familiar with the lifestyle that the hotel is surrounded with but she is very attracted to Ivan Salter, the night watchman for the hotel.

Ivan Salter's boss, Peter Eyre, has a policy of the staff not mingling with the guests but when Ivan finds a way to do it through a possible attempted murder will they find a way through it all? Will Ivan get t

She wants to enjoy the jaz lifestyle of 1925. Everyone has suffered grave losses in the war and are doing their best to celebrate just being alive.
Ivan Salter is an émigré from Russia, making a new life for himself as a night watchman in the hotel. There is a large community of displaced Russians living in London. Som

This was a fun read with lots of dramatic twists that kept my attention. The Jazz Age is just a fun era to read about, then make the setting a fancy hotel... it was just fun. I also liked that the two main characters weren't in the upper echelon. We don't often see the working class during the Jazz Age :)

My main issue with this book was the inconsistent use of chapter breaks. Sometimes chapter breaks were used to change the scene and sometimes they were used to divide a cliff-hanger. It made it

This book was good. I was expecting more romance, considering the setting and time period but it was enjoyable. I like the characters, the story and the plot and found the overall story interesting.

Interesting tale of personal growth in a time when the whole world was changing once again. Two young people of different backgrounds and perspectives meet in a rather unique working environment and find more than romance. The publisher's blurb gives hints and there is no need for spoilers, but that can't begin to prepare you for the wonderful descriptives and really interesting characters. Very enjoyable read!
