Pellejero is quite simply one of Europe s top comics artists, who was chosen for the plum job to illustrate the new adventures of Hugo Pratt s Corto Maltese. Dieter Lumpen began in 1981 and continued until 1994. This definitive omnibus collects all eight short stories and the three graphic novels with a foreword by Tim Sale."

Las historias del antihéroe aventurero imaginado por Zentner y Pellejero, reunidas por única vez tras una breve andadura en viñetas (apenas diez años) que, sin embargo, paseó su estampa entre revistas y álbumes. Un buscavidas en la línea de Corto Maltés, amoldándose a cada nueva circunstancia sin otra aspiración que salir del paso, siendo más una marioneta que dueño de su destino.

Curioso, el derrotero seguido por sus aventuras, yendo de las peripecias exóticas iniciales a la conspiración política sobre los cielos de Túnez ("Enemigos Comunes"), el realismo mágico ("Caribe") y el juego temporal de tintes surreales ("El Precio de Caronte"). Guiones que crecen en complejidad y un trabajo gráfico con un exquisito uso de los silencios... quizás Dieter Lumpen sea para muchos uno de tantos nombres en los dorados años del cómic europeo; pero sus seguidores verán en la agradecida edición integral mucho más que nostalgia.

Me ha gustado mucho. Destaco, por encima de todo, el dibujo de la arquitectura y el diseño de las viñetas, acordes a la sensación espacial que desean ofrecer los autores. En cuanto a la trama es una especie de trasunto de Corto Maltés y Capitán Haddock. El protagonista tan solo desea vivir reposadamente pero sus amistades y encuentros le conducen a vivir aventuras más descarnadas que las del personaje de Hugo Pratt y Hergé. Muy bueno, muy divertido, ameno y fácil de leer.

Caribbean was my favorite story. The art was fantastic. Definitely reminded me of Corto Maltese but ... less dashing? Definitely more melancholy.
I didn't want it to end.

Przede wszystkim czyta się to jak hołd dla Hugo Pratta i już doskonale rozumiem, czemu właśnie Pellejero kontynuuje dziś serię o Corto. Można mieć zastrzeżenia do scenariuszy. Pierwsze historie wydają się zbyt lapidarne, jakby wyrwane z kontekstu i ze słabo umotywowanymi działaniami bohaterów. Gdy pojawia się myśl, że autorzy mogliby pójść w dłuższe i bardziej przemyślane formy, dokładnie to dostajemy, ale tu z kolei zaczyna być... nudnawo.

Dosyć nierówny zbiór, trochę szkoda, że w momencie, gdy wchodzi na bardzo wysoki poziom ("Cennik Charona"), czytelnik orientuje się, że to właściwie koniec. Jestem fanem tak zgrabnych ramotek, ale jednocześnie czuję niedosyt

Me gusta bastante la historieta argentina, un género en si mismo.
Aquí encontramos a Dieter Lumpen, una publicación que empezó en revista, con historias cortas, y que luego se coronó, con tres aventuras más largas e interesantes.
Un antihéroe que se mete en aventuras o problemas con una facilidad pasmosa, un recorrido por varios continentes, con ciertos trasfondos históricos, un dibujo brillante, y con esta edición integral de Astiberri muy lograda, quizás la historia que más me gusta sea "Caribe" pero en líneas generales, un buen rato con bueno de Dieter.

Fantastic art--I could stare at these panels all day. The stories, however, are very low-key. Lumpen is a very passive protagonist and while that is refreshing in a way, it doesn't propel you through the stories like a conventional alpha-male protagonist would. I didn't really mind that. It gave the stories a more literary feel than what you get in traditional American comics.

Tytułowy Dieter Lumpen to elegancki wytworny mężczyzna, o którym tak naprawdę niewiele wiemy. Jest on przeciwieństwem stereotypowego poszukiwacza przygód. Z drugiej jednak strony posiada on szereg najważniejszych jego cech. Jedną z nich jest umiejętność łatwego wplątywania się w nowe przygody, nawet jeśli jego największym pragnieniem jest życie w cichym, wygodnym i spokojnym miejscu. Los ma jednak wobec niego zupełnie inne plany. Zaprowadzą one go do tętniących życiem bazarów Stambułu, gorących Karaibskich plaż czy orientalnych zakątków Chin. Wszędzie tam ponadto Dieter spotyka całą gamę kolorowych postaci oraz poważnych kłopotów, z którymi jakoś będzie musiał sobie poradzić.

Album składa się z 11 historii – niektóre krótkie, inne znacznie dłuższe i rozbudowane. Ich częścią wspólną jest tytułowy bohater, który wplątuje się w nową przygodę.

Już po lekturze kilku/kilkunastu pierwszych stron dzieła dostrzegamy jego największą zaletę. Jest nią niebywała zdolność Jorge Zentnera do snucia wciągającej historii łączącej w sobie przygodę, akcję i dramatyzm. To właśnie to połączenie sprawia, że od albumu trudno jest się oderwać i jest on wysoko oceniany przez czytelników na całym świecie.

Zaserwowana tu opowieść jest ponadto okraszona przemyślanym ironicznym humorem, widocznym w dialogach i obserwacjach Dietera sytuacji, w jakiej się w danej chwili znajduje. Autor nie boi się tu również pokazywać trochę mroczniejszego oblicza świata z przemocą, korupcją czy zwykłą ludzką chciwością. Nigdy jednak ten element historii nie jest nadmiernie przesadzony, tak aby nie przyćmiewał on podstawowej prostej przygodowej treści...

I love the style of the art, very evocative of the fifties and with lots of details in the places all around the world where Dieter’s adventures take place. And the adventures were fine, if kind of lacking in closure... There’s very much a serial adventure story kind of feel to them, though as another reviewer said, Dieter is more often along for the ride than a proactive protagonist.

I have to say that the way he “falls in love” with different woman (“girl”) in every story grated on me a bit. A reason why the adventure serial style reads as so masculine, usually.

The last story, The Reaper’s Price, was pretty great, with actually a great twist on my above complaint... in general the stories really improved as the anthology continued. Unusually for me, the art trumped the story, hence four stars instead of three.

Dieter Lumpen, meni do sada potpuno nepoznat strip, punokrvna je avantura u kojoj pratimo naslovnog junaka po gotovo svim kontinentima uz obilje akcije i humora. Prva dva albuma su mi, usprkos frenetičnom tempu, malo slabije sjeli zbog kratkoće dogodovština koje u njima nalazimo. No u narednim albumima to se mijenja te dobivamo tri cjelovite priče gdje je doslovce svaka bolja od one prethodne. Zentner i Pellejero stvaraju eskapistički svijet u kojem ne manjka nadrealnih elemenata, filozofske kontemplacije i otvorenih pitanja, ali ne pretjeruju s ozbiljnošću te u prvi plan stavljaju zabavu, što se vidi i iz Pellejerovog razigranog i šareno koloriranog crteža. Za mene je Lumpen jako ugodno iznenađenje i definitivno strip kojem ću se više puta vraćati.

via NYPL - The art's very nice. The plots tend to have an anti-climatic end that I appreciate. Still, something here isn't resonating for me - the characters don't seem engaged. The stories felt like a more apathetic riff on Corto Maltese.

El dibujo y el color son excelentes, el panelado del montón, y las historias en su mayoría bastante olvidables.

Por historia sería de 2 o incluso 1 estrella, pero se lleva 3 porque dibujo y color son genuinamente excelentes.
