100 Things I'm Not Going to Do Now That I'm Over 50, Updated

Rate this book
Wise, witty, and whimsical, this list of "things not to do" shows every woman that in order to make the most of being over 50, she has to remember some hard-earned life lessons-about the value of freedom, fun, and feeling good. As "every woman," Crisp resolves not to introduce body parts as topics of conversation, wear a corsage, talk like the kids, or miss an eclipse-and 96 other spirited refusals that will inspire anyone over 50 (and some under-50s, too) to kick up their heels, kick up a fuss-and keep getting a kick out of life.

I thought I would read this book....well... because I'm over 50. While I agreed with some of things the author had to say, others I did not. And there were some things that made me laugh out loud. Very quick read. You can easily finish this in one day and I would have but between work, life and the fact that I was also reading 4 other books at the same time it took me a little while longer.

When I saw this book in the used bargain bin of my local bookstore, I had to grab it. I am about to turn 51, so thought this would be a fun read. And it was. Some items on the author's list were funny. Some I agreed with, some I didn't. Some, I hadn't thought of really, but seeing them, I was like "Hmmm, WHY do that? Why not say no to doing that?" In a world of so many "100 things to do/see before you die!," lists, this list of things NOT to do was fun. And who doesn't need a little fun in their life?

This is a fast read. It is one of those "gifts" you give to someone for a "fun" gift to celebrate a milestone. Its full of both good and bad advice and some of it is funny, but others..not so much.
Putting this one out in my Little Free Library for someone else to enjoy.

Some funny, some thoughtful, some I disagreed with, declarations about aging.

Exactly as the title says - 100 things. I liked looking at someone's list about NOT doing something (opposite of bucket list). Gave me some good ideas!

This is one of those little things I call "gifty books" -- something you buy for a friend or family member just for a laugh. It has it's moments -- and lots of good advice (much of which I wouldn't take) providing witty commentary and insights into why she has chosen each of these 100 things to give up or refrain from doing. Some of the things she has inspired me to NOT do are: 'wear inconspicuous earrings'; 'attend reunions'; 'be nice' (which goes along with 'put on a happy face' and 'stay calm'); 'answer the phone just because it's ringing'; 'eat cheap ice cream'; 'make one problem into two'; and 'lecture the young' -- reading her justifications is the fun part.

I bought this book in 1995 when I turned 50. Revisiting it was a pleasure.
I'm not going to be timid about wearing hats: A remarkable amount of droopy hair and weathered face can be camouflaged under a jaunty canopy. And this one that gets more appropo all the time: I'm not going to take my own death seriously: The mastery of three emotions will suffice: grief for the passing of family and friends; compassion for the deaths of strangers; and humor, for my own demise.

This book was a hoot! I really liked the one: Not write anything I may have to read in court! Some of what she wrote was just witty and some was really good advice. I found it a fun, light, quick read that made me nod my head in agreement and laugh out loud.
