Discovered this book at a tag sale when I was in high school. Through it, I discovered such greats as Gogol, Dostoevsky, and Nabokov. Always thankful.

I found this a very interesting concept for a book - take a literary excerpt and match it with a psych illness / personality disorder.

Definitely old-school in the pre-pc sort of way, for it categorizes “homosexuality” as a disease.

If nothing else, I owe this book for putting me on to Pio Baroja, whose “Galvez the Absurd” tale is a haunting and entertaining portrayal of sociopathy.

Incredible book. Summaries of various mental disorders, mood disturbances, and neuroses followed by excerpts from books by iconic authors of great literature. Very well done.
