As a kid, I devoured the James Herriot books. I love animals and I love stories about animals. So when I heard there was a book that was "an urban James Herriot" I picked it up immediately.
I was not disappointed. The stories here are just as captivating as Herriot's were, only this time instead of a vet we follow an ASPCA officer as she describes interesting cases in her career, including meeting with animal hoarders and chasing sheep down the highway. The descriptions are wonderful and sometimes almost too intense, as in the story about reuniting owners and pets after 9/11.
If you like animals, get this book.
