I'm a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of historical western romance. I live in the Texas Panhandle on land they call the Llano Estacado where the Native Americans and Comancheros once roamed and I can often hear their voices whispering in the wind. History is thick here with the ghosts of the people who settled this land. I love writing western historical romance and can't imagine doing anything else. I love a man in a Stetson and tight pants. Ehm... I like the story, but it could have been a lot shorter if the author didn't make both characters going on and on and on and on with their useless internal musings!

And those musings were most irritating!!!

I don't like when the MCs insist with the old trope: I'm bad for her/him; I'm worthless; I'm guilty; I'm not enough, etc. And here it was going on for pages and pages! Even in the middle of a battle, or some dangerous situation!!!!

It took me ages to finish the book because my eyes were rolling so much!

I don't know if I'll be reading this series any more... sorry!

From page 1, I loved this book. From old west action including cattle rustling, outlaws, hangings, Texas Rangers, Texas strong women who hold their own against overwhelming odds, lovable heroes, wretched villains, anything that makes a good western is included here. Mrs Broday has done a masterful job of taking the old west and making it come alive in a new, heart pounding, attention grabbing tale that rivals any westerns I've read. I cannot wait to read all of her other books.

Soo. Yall know I don't read blurbs. And for a while I kept thinking oh please be a menage!

"Weston, tell me this: Why were you on the train?"

"Wanted to make sure you got home. Knew you were still struggling, that you couldn't do your job. In the months of you chasing me and having to use all my wits to stay free... I don't know... I guess a bond of some sort or another formed. The chase became the game."

It certainly hadn't been a game to Sam. But Luke was right about growing close. Something deeper ran between them. "You noticed it too? The bond, I mean?"

"Yep." Luke licked his dry lips.

I mean, seriously!! Tell me. Would you be thinking...mmhm. We're gonna have some historical naughtiness right here. lol But, yeah, no. Totally innocent on that front. Heh. Anywho...

The Gist: Sam's been forced to take some time off from being a Texas Ranger after a near death experience. But saving people? It's in his blood. When a damsel in distress crosses his path there's no way he can turn her down even if it means taking on the help of the outlaw he's spent years hunting to do so.

I loved this trio. Sam, Sierra and Luke are all a bit damaged and broken by life. And all dealing the best they can and fighting to survive. Sam's honorable and just a good man struggling after a nearly dying. Sierra's full of heart and strength. Luke's a complicated law breaker who tries his best to hid his good side.

It was a bit harrowing watching them cross Texas as they make their way to Sam's family ranch and safety. Dangers everywhere including those hunting Sierra. I enjoyed my time with them and watching them interact during their travels and while dealing with the pain and comfort family can bring.

Sam and Sierra's romance was sweet and touching. Slow burning and lovely to watch as they grow closer and start to heal. There's just a little bit of heat added in, too.

Overall, I enjoyed To Love a Texas Ranger. It's a bit slower paced even though there's danger lurking everywhere and things are...eventful during their travels. But it was an easy read that pulled me along and entertained. There were some nice surprises and teasers that have me excited to spend a little more time with the Legend men.

To Love A Texas Ranger is Linda Broday's finest accomplished book, yet. Secrecy, revenge, deception, & most importantly family are all entwined in this first book of The Men Of Legend. Sam Legend is a Texas Ranger who escapes a near death hanging, but that only fuels his revenge to right a wrong. Sierra Hunt is the sweet beauty he saves from the cruel outlaws who have taken her in search of an unknown map. The way Ms. Broday weaves The Legend Men into your heart is riveting . Come along for the phenomenal heartfelt journey as you enter the crossbars of The Lone Star Ranch. Nothing but death will stop The Men Of Legend. Question is, Will The Lone Star Ranch be enough to keep them safe?

Linda Broday’s To Love a Texas Ranger is a brand new western historical romance and book 1 of her Men of Legend series. I’ve been waiting for this one because I read and loved other western historical series, Bachelors of Battle Creek.

Much like Bachelors of Battle Creek, Men of Legend will focus on a family or a ‘band of brothers’ if you can call them. Even though, the brothers of Bachelors of Battle Creek series weren’t brothers by blood, these Legends brothers certainly are! The first book focuses on Sam Legend, a Texas Ranger, estranged from his family for a while because of his job.

Sam Legend always knew he had a wanderer’s soul and the job of a Texas Ranger suited him just fine. Even though his father, Stoker, is one of the richest Ranchers living out there with miles and miles worth of lands and kettle, Sam knew ranching isn’t his call. His elder brother, Houston, was doing great on that regard. However, things weren’t as it seemed. The bond between the father and the brothers were thin, something deteriorated since their mother’s passing some 17yrs. ago. It’s then their father started drinking, becoming way too focused on acquiring more lands and kettle, making more money than caring for his sons. Everyone knew that grief did it to him but that was no excuse. Sam wanted out and even with his father’s protests he got out as soon as he could. Stoker let him, knowing he can’t stop him. After all, he’s a Legend and they are a stubborn lot.

Sam though, didn’t think any of his family approved of what he chose to be his profession until he was well into it. His father wasn’t the type of show off his affection and Sam had a volatile relationship with Houston. The last time he visited family, that was years ago, he had an ugly fight with Houston, who was frustrated being holed up in the Ranch to do his duty as the eldest, rather than seeing anything of the world like Sam was; at least the greater Texas. Stoker does surprise Sam by showing his approval in a way he expected the least. That was quite the bittersweet visit.

But when he’s caught by an unknown enemy while doing his job alone, Sam discovered that his luck has run out. That mean SOB and his men decided they wanted Sam to hang, a fate that’d be theirs if Sam caught them. It would’ve been the most horrible way to go, and Sam was feeling about everything that a dying man probably could; the pain, the confusion, the anger, then the gut-wrenching realization that he’d never see his father and brother again, with that came the regret of not reconciling with them when he had the time. Sam was feeling it all.......

Then, suddenly, came some sort of divine intervention! The enemy left leaving him chocking but someone was watching him from afar, a fact Sam knew. Sam also knew who it was, an outlaw he’s been searching for but was unable to capture—Luke Weston. It was frustrating but he didn’t understand this weird dance he’d been dancing with the outlaw. It seemed, knowing he’s wanted and will hang for his crimes, Luke was always around, somewhere and Sam could detect him with his fine Ranger’s instinct. However, when Sam caught up with him, Luke would always find a way to escape and disappear. Then when times like this, Sam needed help and backup, Luke was helping him from afar. He’d helped him before and he was here today as well. The last thing Sam saw before losing consciousness was a pair of green eyes staring down at him. He knew those eyes quite well.

It’s been a month ad Sam hasn’t forgotten anything about that horrible day. PTSD has set in. Sam felt disoriented, would jump at shadows. There were nightmares causing sleepless nights. And all of these were hampering his performance as a Ranger, a fact his boss had already pointed out. One day, he calls Sam to tell him to take a few days off. He stresses for Sam to go back home and rest. But Sam doesn’t take this easily. He was already in a bad mood because earlier, he thought he’d seen something— a distressed woman pursued by a man. But because it was raining heavily, he couldn’t determine if he really saw something or was it just another false alarm like the ones he’s been having for the past year. His boss’s was an order, something he’s going to have to obey. Like it or, Sam Legend was temporarily dismissed from his duty. Now what will he do? Returning to the Ranch didn’t sound appealing but maybe it’s time to go back and make amends with his father and brother.

But before he could think of anything else, Sam comes across the same woman, as if fate has arranged them to meet again when she’s rather unceremoniously dumped on his lap. And from that moment on, Sierra Hunt becomes Sam’s responsibility in every way possible. Sam figures out soon enough what he’d seen that day wasn’t wrong. Sierra was indeed being pursuit by a band of criminals. Sierra’s brother, Rocky, used to run a newspaper. He went missing before that and Sierra had no idea if he was even alive after all these months. Then they came for her, asking for the copy of a map she had no idea about. Since then, Sierra had tried escaping a few times, finally succeeding. But the criminals weren’t far behind. Sam gets a hold of the situation from his almost infallible Ranger instinct and becomes her protector instantly.

But behind them was another man and Sam couldn’t tell who he was. A man who was trying to help them get away. He seemed familiar but Sam couldn’t figure out who he was...until they’re out of those men’s range and the man catches up with him. His green eyes seemed so familiar that Sam feels a déjà vu coming. All three of them take shelter planning on their next move to get Sierra to safety. And that has to be Lone Star Ranch, Stoker’s place. It would the safest place for anyone with Stoker having his own band of trained men constantly checking the perimeter. Sam was already feeling overprotective of Sierra, who seemed to have the deepest faith on Sam Legend, the famous Ranger. It was also true that people knew Sam by his fabulous work in capturing branded criminals. They also knew he’d cheated certain death. Sam wouldn’t call himself Lazarus but what he’d gone through, he wouldn’t wish it on anyone. He was also hating the other man flirting with Sierra constantly, calling her “dulce” every so often. :D

Soon enough Sam figures out the man accompanying them. It WAS Luke Weston, the criminal he’s supposed to arrest and transport. But he’s also the man who saved his life more than once. Sam was indebted to him. When confronted, Luke readily acknowledges that he’s, indeed, who Sam is looking for. The animosity between them was palpable but it wasn’t laden with acrid hatred. It was something they couldn’t figure out. Sierra comes between them before they could come to blow and requests them to think clearly. They need to move away from here, far from those outlaws. Sam decides it’d be for the best to head towards his father’s Ranch, then figure out what to do about this new situation. But their journey isn’t quite smooth. Those men catch up with them and Luke is injured. When they finally reach the ranch, Stoker had already gotten news that he was coming from his men. The criminals were already in pursuit but backs off seeing Stoker, Houston and their men.

Stoker and Houston couldn’t believe Sam had come home finally, even if he stunk to high heaven! Both were more than eager to resolve their differences, as was Sam. They had heard of his almost hanging and been worried about him ever since.

Things were about to get even complicated for the Legend family. Whereas Sierra was welcomed with an open arm, which she appreciated a lot, Luke wasn’t so good. In fact, Sam didn’t understand his mood all that much. An even bigger, more surprising truth was about to be revealed, an incident Luke himself puts into motion. I already had my suspicions about it and finally got it confirmed when Luke got caught in Stoker’s library, doing something in the night. Sam and Houston were concerned despite themselves about keeping a known outlaw like Luke around for several reasons; one was being robbed by him, which initially what it seemed like. But it wasn’t. In fact, Luke was placing something on Stoker’s desk; a memento Stoker recognized the moment he laid eyes on it.

From there it was confirmed by Stoker himself that Luke had to be his son! That he had a Mexican sweetheart for a while, even wanted to marry her but things weren’t on their side. They were forced to separate, never to see each-other again. A heartbroken Stoker then returned to his ranch and married Sam and Houston’s mother. So, in that regard, Luke is his eldest son, who also happen to possess Stoker’s green eyes. It also makes Luke the heir, not Houston. So yeah, to say it came as a surprise to the bothers was kind of an understatement. Both Sam and Houston had no idea how to react at that point. Questions were swirling in their heads. Did their father cheat on their mother (before Stoker cleared the ‘timeline’ out)? Did he even love their mother, when it seemed his love for his Mexican Senorita was much deeper, whom he even called his true love? What now? Does Luke want his share of the inheritance? Why the hell has he been trailing Sam? Was it only because he already knew of their relationship or was there something else in there?

Whatever it was, the bothers do accept Luke quite easily into their folds. Only he himself wasn’t that easy to deal with. Luke was moody, prone to anger and kept his distance, his deep-seated dislike for Stoker and his money quite palpable. Of course, he was angry! Luke lived in poverty all his life, as his mother had, who worked menial jobs until her death support them when his supposed father was richer than Croesus himself. He had to turn bad to survive, forge his own way into the world whereas his brothers had a home and security he’d never known. It wasn’t something someone takes easily. However, Stoker was repentant and wanted his son back. He wanted to be a father even if it seemed too late to be one to Luke. If only Luke would give them a chance...

Even when Sam and the rest try to find out a way to deal with these outlaws pursuing Sierra, something more intimate begins blossoming between them, which seemed inevitable since their first meeting. But there were also quite a bit of misunderstanding. Sam was determined to carry on as a Ranger, which is not only a difficult job but also quite dangerous. He didn’t want to settle down, then leave a family behind. I thought, from his POV, it was logical. However, Sierra was already halfway in love with him, as was Sam himself. He wanted it, but didn’t know if he can have it so he kept pushing Sierra away. Sierra understood his POV too, yet it didn’t hurt any less. She was quite heartbroken by his behavior.

Stoker and the rest wanted her to be here as long as she felt comfortable after her pursuers are dealt with but Sierra was becoming ever more determined to leave ASAP. She couldn’t endure anymore of Sam’s rejection. She didn’t have a great childhood. A tragedy took 2 lives in her family. Her father was quite aloof and distant. He was also, for some reason, quite mean to Sierra and blamed her for everything which caused hurt and insecurity so deep that she had self-esteem issues. Sam’s behavior didn’t help matters at all. She wanted nothing but to have her own family. She didn’t want a wondering life or a waiting wife always scared of something happening to her husband, exact opposite of the life Sam could give her. So she begins thinking she’s not good enough for anyone, so why would Sam want to settle down with her? It seems odds are always stacked against her.

Trouble following Sierra eventually finds them again, this time they manage to kidnap Sierra. Sam not only had to deal with this, but also watched Luke siding with those outlaws which broke his heart twice in one day. The betrayal of it shocked him. It seemed there was no redemption possible for his new found half-brother. But he needed to save Sierra, whom he knew he had come to love despite everything that had gone on between them and all the things he’d told himself to stay away from her. Sierra grounded him, took away his nightmares. He hadn’t felt this good ever since his almost hanging. Sam knew he needed her in his life and this time, he’d fight tooth and nail to get the love of his life back. And when he does, he’s never letting her go.

With some great actions and twisted revelations, we’re also given a hint of what’s to come next. I’m still not sure if the next book is Luke’s or not but I’d definitely like to find out. He was one hot guy and I find myself wanting to be the object of his intense green stare. Oh boy! :P

As for this one, I liked everything...almost. One thing that bugged me half the story was the dialogue between Sam and Sierra. Since they started falling for each-other, their dialogue and interactions began to sound too cheesy for my liking. :/ I may have rolled my eyes once or twice. But this is definitely a matter of personal preference so don’t let me deter you from trying To Love a Texas Ranger out. Linda Broday writes about very down-to-earth, honorable men who are extremely protective of their loved ones and will do anything for them. I love this trait, which makes all her books worth a shot. As you can see, Sam was no different. :) 3.5 stars.

Who among us has not dreamed of the romance of loving a Texas Ranger. Why even today they are the tall, dark and mystical protectors of Texas. They are the legends that began in the wild, wild West. Legends, oh yes, we are all aware of all the intimate details that defines a legend. OR, at least I thought I did, until I read Linda Broday’s first book in her The Men of Legend Series, “to Love a Texas Ranger”. In this series, the heroes don’t just live the life of legends, they are actually named Legend. The hero is Sam Legend. Sam is one of the orneriest, stubbornest, one of the most hard headed men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. There were times in the book I just wanted to thrash him because he could not see beyond his hand in front of his face. Ah, but then the lovely, mysterious Sierra literally fell into his lap. Umm, love at first bewitchment. But Sam fought it the whole book. Sam had other plans. So did Sierra. I don’t think I have ever had as much fun as I did watching the love and the relationship grow between these two individuals. I often had to remind myself it was a book. The characters were so vivid, so true to life, so real, that you have to keep reminding yourself that they are characters in a book. Obviously, the romance was the main story. But there were so many other twists and turns every where you looked. Linda Broday knows how to write and to keep the suspense high. It is only recently that I was introduced to Linda Broday but I am a friend and fan for life. I cannot believe I didn’t hear about her much sooner. I will let you in on a little secret. We are trying to talk Linda into coming to our part of the country to do a couple of book signings. Readers and fans of Linda Broday, there is only one thing more I have to say. If you do not read this book, you will have missed one of the best Western Legends in print. So do not miss this funny, sad, sarcastic, sardonic, mystical, secretive, etc. but most of all, most beautiful romances I have read in a very long time. And to Linda Broday, thank you again. You delivered again. What a book. Here is to a grand lady with an unequalled talent for painting pictures with words. You are a true artiste.

Perfect for fans of historical romances set in the West. A decent read, fits all of what you would expect for a historical western romance-has good characters, good story, the setting really enhances the story, and there is plenty of romance (sometime steamy).

If you enjoy westerns, family dynamics and/or romance you’re bound to enjoy To Love a Texas Ranger. This book has all of the above and more!

Sam Legend is a Texas Ranger, but also the son of powerful cattle rancher, Stoker Legend. Unlike his brother, Houston, Sam prefers tracking down criminals over ranching. That course has created friction between Sam and his father. When Sam is forced to take some time off from the Rangers, his path crosses with that of a young woman, Sierra, who is being hunted by outlaws. Together, Sam and Sierra end up as trail companions, along with Luke Weston, a notorious gunslinger Sam has tracked for years. When Sam learns Luke is really his half-brother, he’s forced to choose between career and family.

This novel has the feel of many of the old-time westerns I enjoyed while growing up. I loved the way the author wove the varied elements together for a satisfying read. The romance is sweet and tender, but Sam’s unconventional relationship with Weston is where the story excels. At least for me. Linda Broday brought her characters vividly to life and made me care about each of them, much as I did those cowboys and gunslingers of TV westerns’ glory days. I loved meeting the Legends and can’t wait for the next book in the series. This was my first time reading Linda Boday’s work, but it certainly won’t be my last!

When Texas Ranger, Sam Legend, is forced to return home to his father's giant Texas ranch to recuperate from a brush with death, he has no idea who is shadowing him. Nor, does he know that a beautiful and desperate woman will fall into his lap on the train. Sierra Hunt is fleeing for her life when a sudden lurch of the train lands her on top of a stranger. But the bloody hand print she leaves on Sam’s chest springs him into action.
The plot thickens when the man shadowing him turns out to be an outlaw brother whom he never knew existed. Luke Weston joins forces with Sam to help Sierra Hunt escape the grips of men who are convinced she holds the key to buried treasure.
Sam is forced to question everything he is sure he understands about life, from his career to the part where he's vowed to never love again. Sierra finds herself faced with a haunted past and must find forgiveness and redemption.
This introduction to the bigger-than-life Legend family is filled with mystery, suspense and of course a huge helping of romance. If you love the old West, love stories and suspense, you'll love the beginning of the Men of Legend series by Linda Broday!

I loved this story nothing like a touching cowboy adventure full of romance with something to hide. Wait until the secrets come out and see who, how and what they affect. There is nothing like a delightful story built on honor and love of one’s country. Life is hard it was even harder back then. This is a time where men stood up for what they believe in showing respect and demanding it back. Ms. Broday tells it like it was bring wonderful characters to life that are down to earth giving a story you really can believe in.

Sam is a man that every women who reads this book will fall in love with, stand back ladies he is all mine. I just adore him and all he stands for. Is he prefect NO he is a normal man with demons he is trying to outrun just trying to get by making the best of what he can hoping for a better life. He serves and protects giving back as much as he can when something happens to make him rethink everything he does or sees. One woman catches his eye she seems to be in trouble but before he could help she is gone. He really second guesses his self was she in trouble or was he seeing things and reading too much in to it. When the same woman falls in his lap as he catches her only to find she is in a mess of trouble leaving them running for their lives. This turns into a kill or be killed they are on the run with some very angry man hot on their heels.

One has to as ask just who is this man who helped them? He doesn’t seem to be on the up and up. As the story unfolds there is mystery, justices as one man stands up for another just because he has proven his self.

Sierra is a lovely lady who is on the run from outlaws who may or may not have taken her brother. He may or may not still be alive and it looks like she is next to be taken that is until one handsome lawman saves the day giving her hope in mankind.

These two have a lot in common both have lost and are sad. Each wants a better life and work hard to find it. Each sees in the other what they see in their selves which draw them to each other. Mysteries will have to be solved, secrets must come out, there is a lot of conflict going on that will need to be worked out. But something can’t be solved will this family have what it takes to make a wrong a right learn to love, give and take. Agree to disagree and learn to support even when it isn’t what they want?

I really enjoyed how the author brought Sam and Sierra together with a powerful pull between them. The attraction is from the start making you suck in your breath as it warms your heart. Things are not easy for them as you wonder if love can overcome anything. I totally enjoyed the mystery and how it comes to play into their lives. The twist leaves you surprised as the author gives you a story of what American was build on love of our country showing respect and honor. I was so hooked on this book I read it at one setting staying up late at night to finish it. I really loved how Sam’s saves Sierra and in return she saves his soul. This was really a touching heartwarming read that leaves you wearing a smile. Oh it isn’t all coming up roses each have to go through their trying times finding their way. This is written in such away I doubt you can read it and not feel the power, honor that the author brings to the pages as the characters take you away back in time when your word meant everything. I really hope you will pick this book up. You will find a very talented author who knows how to keep you entertained as well as warm your heart.

When trouble comes, stand proud. You are a Legend. Inside you beats the heart of a survivor. by Sam

... Those Legend's men. Really, I fell in love with all of them. I can see at least two more books coming in this series, but I really would love three more. Not only the brothers, but also daddy Legend deserves a book of it's own.

They are the kind of male character that you imagine to find into a western book or movie. At the same time, each Legend men carry his own distinctive personality, that make you want to meet them and be friends with them. These men being so awesome only enhances the fact of how special Sierra is, because she is almost the only female character of the entire book, and she is never outshone by them. She stands side-by-side with them throughout everything and at the end comes out winning.

Ms. Broday's characters are relatable and lovable. It's easy to connect with them, understand them and like them.

To Love a Texas Ranger is a long book, but after a slow paced first couple chapters, the story flows well and it grabs the reader into this very well described setting of 1877 Texas. Even though some twists I had already guessed along the way, when it finally happens in the story, the description of the scene feels fresh and somewhat new. Country life on 1877 was not easy, and we can sense that while reading. All the angst and pain that the characters go through are there for a reason, and everything is very cohesively written and explained to us.

I really enjoy "spicy" books, but I'm still very entertained by the lust of a man when he sees the ankle of a lady. It's cute and romantic!

The temperature of the spicy scenes is appropriate for the book and fanciful as usually is in historical reads. The sexual scenes are well described and leave you with feelings of love and passion.

In that second he knew heaven wasn't only golden streets and angels playing harps. Heaven was Sierra Hunt in his arms. by Sam

I would recommend this book to readers of historical romance and to fans of western movies!

You may read this because you enjoy cowboys; you should read this if you like a love story; but you MUST read this if you are a fan of alpha males and kick-ass heroine!

More twist and turns than a run away roller coaster Linda Broday keeps you on the edge of your seat until the last sentence. I cannot wait to read the other Legend Brothers books

OH, what a a delightful tale of cowboys, adventure, secrets and romance. I really enjoyed reading this "star spangled" book about men who fought for what is theirs no matter what the cost. This one is Men of Legend #1 which had me at first page and never let go.
The characters from the old west were hard men who built a life for themselves and dreams of bigger things. Sam Legend is one hot handsome man who has demons that won't let go. He is wounded in body as well in spirit. One his way home to his family's ranch to recuperate from the Texas Rangers, he meets a woman on the train who literally falls into his lap! Her name is Sierra and she is on the run from outlaws who will stop at nothing to get her.
Sam is a proud and honest man who sees in the lost woman's eyes and sees a kindred soul that speaks to him. There is a lot of conflict that needs to be sorted out between the Legend family that will pull them together or pull them apart.
The romance of Sam and Sierra is instant and leaves the reader breathless. You can't go wrong in reading this exciting book. I can't wait til the next one. Thanks again Net Galley for this ARC title in which I gave an honest review.

Around 3/4 of the way through some of the things Sierra said/thought changed from realistic to slightly whiny and annoying. After being told not to leave the house & to lock herself inside for safety she didn't listen and came out. Honestly, what happened after seemed like it should happen bc she was ridiculous and didn't listen. I was annoyed by her.

The love scenes didn't really intrigue me and I skimmed them to get back to the main storyline.

The secret that Luke shared with Sam was interesting but i was annoyed more wasn't done about it. Why didn't Sam ask for a list of needs or ways he could help. I wondered why he didn't have any ideas of things he could do. It seemed like a strange secret to not develop more fully. I felt like i was left hanging wondering. I don't want to have to read another brothers book to find out more (if that is why it was left unfinished). I wanted it covered more. Pretty much everything else is answered but that.

This book has twist and turns and then twist again.

A Texas Ranger, Sam Legend, is truly a heart throb. One that any woman would dream to have and hold.
It took a young woman Sierra Hunt
To break the hard shell of a romantic man.
During their road trip they start to learn why each other is the way they are. This draws the two closer and closer. To the point of no return.
As I see it, it takes the opposite to allure the love they deserve. Cheers to Sam and Sierra Legend.

Let me start by saying that I rarely read historical romances set in the American West. Just not my favorite time period to read as I'm a Regency England fan. However, there are a few exceptional historical romances that I've loved set in the 1800's American West and this book is one of them.

To Love a Texas Ranger is the first in a trilogy about the Legend brothers. This book is about the youngest son (youngest by a few years); Sam Legend. He is a tough and brave Texas Ranger, who has a run in with outlaws and almost doesn't survive. He is on his way back home on a train to mentally recover when he meets a shifty character and the lovely Sierra Hunt, who has been abducted by some of the same outlaws Sam has been after. The shifty character, named Luke Weston, helps Sam save Sierra. Sam soon finds out Luke is another outlaw he's been after. However, he is conflicted as Luke has helped him out and actually was the one to save Sam's life from the previous outlaws.

What follows next is a lot of action as Sam and Luke help Sierra get to safety away from the outlaws who are after her, thinking she knows where a treasure map is. They are continually being chased by some real nasty villains.

Sierra, Sam, and Luke are all complex characters with a lot of baggage; needing comfort and understanding. I loved Sam and Sierra, but I really loved Luke. Plus, I enjoyed Houston (Sam's older brother), Stoker (his father), and Hector (A young orphaned boy).

The plot was fast paced and interesting. The characters were very likeable (well, except for the villains). And the romance between Sam and Sierra was angsty, yet also sweet.

Definitely recommend this fantastic book and look forward to reading Luke's book (I've already read Houston's book and it's wonderful and on my keeper shelf). Love the Legend men!! 💖

A near hanging has messed up Texas Ranger Sam Legend’s head. He’s on a train back to the family ranch for some R&R and recovery when he rescues a damsel in distress. A band of ruthless outlaws is under the impression that Sierra Hunt has some kind of treasure map. She has no idea what it is or who the enemy really is. Sam and Sierra gain an ally in their flight to the ranch and safety in outlaw Luke Weston, a man Sam has hunted for years.

To Love a Texas Ranger is fairly predictable in a good way, but there is way too much telling. There is a lot of ‘she loves me/does she really love me,’ ‘can I trust him/of course I can trust him’ breast beating. This self-doubt becomes repetitive and slows the story.

This is an entertaining story that could have been tighter. The other stories in the series should be worth waiting for.

Great historical romance with lots of twists and turns set in the late 1800's in Texas. Good guys - Texas Rangers and sheriffs plus family and ranch hands plus lots of outlaws and bad guys with lots of ambushes and fighting. Sam and his family are legendary and their last name says it all - Legend. Brother and father have a lot to deal with as does Sam in his job as Texas Ranger but why is bad guy, Luke Weston, helping him and saving his life? Sam and Sierra have immediate chemistry but both are running from their pasts so things are not as easy as they long for at times. One minute they're running away from the other and the next they're running towards each other.

Some of the story was expected but much of it wasn't. Nice flow to the story and some depth to the characters. Nice closure with a happily ever after but enough loose ends to take us to the next book in the series. I can't wait to read more!

It started so well - introduced an interesting mysterious character (whose identity was easily figured out before the Great Reveal) BUT - slow-paced, desperately needed a strong editor who would slash the repetition and keep the plot and action moving. The two main characters spent far too much time agonizing about how it was impossible to be together because of their differing view of what they wanted from life. Obviously the word "compromise" didn't exist then. On the other hand, Broday has created an interesting world on the Lone Star Ranch and there are two other stories apparently in the future. However, it would have been less eye-rolling had she named her characters "Legend" - really? - "the Men of Legend rode out", they were "Men of Legend" - too silly and readers should have already gotten the point that these guys are right up there with the lads from the Ponderosa.

I purchased this a while ago but never got around to reading it. I was gifted with an ARC to a book that was about the next generation of Legends and remembered this. I really enjoyed this story and have already started to read the second one of the series.

I adored reading about Sam Legend and Sierra Hunt. It was very intense as times and I couldn't put it down (even late into the evening or I should say early in the morning!)

For a book that starts off a series, this one does a fantastic job of keeping me guessing and looking forward to finding out how the different aspects will tie together. I loved the glimpse into the other brothers stories as well.

This is a spicy story that I would only recommend to someone over the age of 18.

I loved this book! Sam is a man that any woman could fall for and fall hard. This installment was chalk full of romance and surprises as well. I devoured this book in one sitting, which I very seldom do. Sam is not a saint - he is running from demons (aren't we all at some point!), but he is a honest and hard working man and just wants to make a better life for himself.

Without giving much detail, this is not your typical cowboy on the ranch or rodeo circuit! Sam finds himself in a mess due to a woman, and they both must run for their lives. I can't wait to read book 2!

Sam Legend, a Texas Ranger, that has been injured on the job is heading home to the Lone Star Ranch. He is under orders to rest and heal up, but while on the train heading home and unknown lady named Sierra crosses his path. In his quest to help Sierra, he gets help from an unknown man; who he finds out is actually the outlaw Luke Weston that he has been tracking down for a year.
You will get to meet Sam's father, Stoker Legend, and his brother Houston. And you will find out that the outlaw Luke Weston is actually his half brother that his father didn't know about. While the road to true love is never a smooth road and this story is no different. Just when you think it love has solved everything; Linda Broday continues to draw you in and the twists and turns take you a different way that you don't except.
I read this book while I had a cold; and had to take some meds; which kept me from reading it until I was done; it took me a couple of days only because of the meds making me sleep. Otherwise I wouldn't have even sat this book down until I was done reading. I for one can't wait to read the next book in this series and about this family of men.

Linda Broday has written another story that found it's own special little corner of my heart - and on my favorites shelf.

The instant spark connecting Sam Legend to his Sierra provided just the right setting for a surprisingly slow, sweetly growing bond between them. Despite each having their own set of struggles and fears that needed healing and delt with, deep down their walls crumbled instantly once finding each other. Even though they both (Sam especially) took plenty of time to acknowledge how much each one truly needed and completed the other. The journey Sam and Sierra took me on reminded me of a mix of the lazy river ride and white water rapids - there's moments of just happy easy going warmth, and then moments filled with turbulence, rocks, and unexpected waterfalls. Be prepared for the unexpected as you're being woo'd by the sweet.

Loved getting to meet the Legend family and get hints of the next books in this series (Houston and Luke's stories). Looking forward to what comes next!

I have enjoyed reading this story about Sam the Texas Ranger and his adventures with chasing Luke Weston, the unfathomable outlaw. Sierra the damaged mountain girl with a rugged past who finds love with Sam. An engaging tale set in demanding and perilous times and environment where survival skills make the difference between living and dying. I like the easy to read writing style that flowed at a good pace with action around every corner. I would love to live on the Lone Star Ranch. Thanks Linda Brodey for the reading pleasure.

Read in one day and after doing so can say that truly this 1st book set up the trilogy and that I preferred the 3rd book as Luke's story was more interesting to me than Sam's.

Not that this was not a good read but it lacked the extra emotional impact that the last one gave me for some reason.

I am missing Houston's book but having enjoyed him together with Lara in last book not really an issue for me.
