This Verity Long novelette is set as the holidays approach. Ghost of a Chance nicely straddles that line between fun fluff and too-silly-to-care, easily managing to keep both feet firmly planted on the delicious treat side while sprinkling a bit of festive warmth on the confection. Unlike most readers, I hadn’t yet read any full-length entries in the Southern Ghost Hunter mystery series, but had no trouble getting a feel for its tone from this shorter story. I didn’t run across anything that ...more

For a short story/novella, Angie Fox packed in the emotional wallops. I really started to feel for Verity and Frankie in this one. In Ghost of Chance, I felt like the author really gave us a good idea of how lonely both Frankie and Verity’s existence are. Verity’s ostracization from Sugarland doesn’t seem to have eased any from Skeletons in the Closet and it appears that she and Ellis are still keeping their relationship on the down low. This leads Verity to a very quiet Christmas and poor ...more

Another great short story in this series. This time Verity helps Mathew the ghostly soldier who appeared in the last story to reconnect with his family and his home. Sweet light read

Wonderful short story

What a great Christmas ghost story! Warm and enjoyable short story! Love Verity, Frankie, Matthew and all the ghost characters.
Hilary (A Wytch's Book Review)
A fun little novella in the Southern Spirits series, this one is set at Christmas and Verity has the chance to help two people, one living and one dead! Her ghostly friend Matthew Jackson (the one member of the family who joined the Yankee army rather than the Confederates) has decided to marry Josephine (aka jilted Josephine, another ghost), but he wants to family heirlook necklace before he proposes, the problem is his mother barred him from the house when he joined the opposing army. 4 Stars... A sweet, enchanting novella that holds moments of hilarity coupled with tenderness... Verity finds herself in the middle of family drama leaving her ghostly friend, Matthew, lost and frustrated... To save the day she needs to resolve old hurt, unite a couple in Love, serve up some delicious hors d’oeuvres, and manage gangster Frankie... all in a days work for a budding ghost hunter:)

Verity and Frankie are enjoying their own simply holiday festivities of baking Christmas Cookies and decorating the old family home when a ghost they met through their previous case, Major Jackson stops by needing a favor.

He wants to propose to his ghostly sweetheart and wishes to give her the opal necklace his mother promised him when he took a bride. Unfortunately, he and his mother had a falling out when he signed up to fight for the North and he came from a family of Southerners. Verity

I absolutely adore this series. Its such a fun read. Poor Verity having to put up with a grumpy gangster.
Love all the ghost characters .In this episode, Matthew wants a family heirloom necklace so he can propose to his love Josephine. The only problem is that Matthew cant get it himself. His mother banished him when he was alive. So Verity and Frankie head off to the party of the season. At Matthews family home. While waitressing Verity searches for Matthews mother, with the help of Frankie's

This was a quick dip back into Verity's world and it had plenty of ghostly action. Seriously, she was practically tripping over ghosts. Okay, not tripping, but I imagine it would be hard to navigate a room that was filled with both the living and the dead. You'd be bobbing and weaving all over the place.

Maybe it's just me.

Anyway. This book. Verity. Ghosts. She does her thing. Everybody ends up happy. It's a win all around.

Verity Long sees ghosts. Not only sees them, but talks with them with the help of her gangster ghost hunter..who is also a ghost. This story is another "chapter" in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries. And was just a good as the others. Verity agrees to help a "friend" find a special something for his loved one. It takes her to a Christmas party that has no idea that the past is also having a gathering.
Great writing and a wonderful story! It made me smile and have all the good feels!

Ghost of a Chance by Angie Fox

Verity goes on a errand for a ghost and reunites a mother and son. A touching holiday novella where family and friends are the most important part of the season. You don't need to be familiar with the series. The author does a good job with background information.

This is a really fun Christmas mystery novella. Verity serves as a waitress at a haunted Christmas party so that she can help a ghost find a family heirloom. It concludes with a sweet, heart-warming ending. This is a great short read for those readers who like paranormal cozy mysteries!

4 Stars. Ghost of a Chance is book 2.5 in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series. This is a cozy mystery told in 1st person POV for main character Verity Long. This book is a quick read/listen at only 54 pages or 1 hour and 3 minutes.

The series is about a woman named Verity who unknowingly cleans out a man named Frankie's ashes from an old vase looking jar into her rosebushes and it traps his ghost on her property allowing him to only leave when Verity takes his urn off the property. The

Once again, I found that I really enjoyed the short novellas that accompany the Souther Ghost Hunter Mysteries series. In this particular novella, Verity finds herself tasked with helping a ghost that was introduced in The Skeleton in the Closet, Matthew. Matthew has found love with the ghost of “jilted” Josephine from Southern Spirits and is eager to propose to his ghostly beloved. However, the ring he wants to use is with the spirit of his

Another quick read - a short story that comes between #2 and #3 of the series. Verity's old friend from previous books, a Union Army ghost, comes to ask her a favor. He and his ghost girlfriend Josephine want to get married (if they can find a ghost preacher.) He wants Verity to get a necklace that belonged to his mother, which she had said he should give to his wife. The ghost was a member of the Jackson family, one of the two feuding wealthy families in Sugarland. But the necklace is at his ...more

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

When the ghostly spirit of the former Union officer, Major Matthew Jackson, decides to propose to his ghostly sweetheart, Josephine, he comes to Verity Long for help. When he was a living man, his mother had promised to give him a family heirloom, an opal necklace, to present to his bride-to-be when the time came. With his early death, a casualty of the War Between the States, that time never came, and with his alliance on the side of the Union, he had been banished forever from his home in ...more

Sweet and delightful

In this story, Verity needs to help her friend, Matthew, a Civil War ghost, retrieve an heirloom to present to his intended. With the sort-of-help from Frankie, who had rather party, Verity steps in to do what she can to repair a century-and-a-half rift between Matthew and his mother.

This story is both a mystery (searching for a ghostly heirloom) and a romance (between two ghosts), and is well-plotted and filled with fun characters. The ghost hunting might not be dangerous

Recommends it for: Everyone
Yup, I am voracious reader once find something I like. Read this one out of order, but still enjoyed it. I am looking forward to reading more this author has to offer. I'd tell you all about the book, but I hate to read reviews that have spoilers so I won't. You have to read this for yourself it is well worth the time.

Although part of a series, this nice little tale can be appreciated as a stand alone. The publisher's blurb gives hints, but can't show you the fun or the interesting relationships between the ghosts. A very positive ending made the story even more enjoyable.
Tavia Gilbert gives an interesting narration.

So excited to find two novellas between the main series. They're so quick and so much fun. Frankie's urn at the Jackson's party, oh boy! Such a crack up. Hope Verity starts getting paid for her ghost hunting business. Okay, back the series. Book three it is.

I really enjoy Angie Fox's writing. Her prose flows and is free from grammar and punctuation errors, which has become a rare thing these days, sadly. I find her premise original and refreshing, and the cast of recurring characters holds my interest. I will read the whole series in time.

Super cute little story! Frankie is a riot and it was so nice to see some good things happening for Matthew and Josephine :)

Favorite Quote:
“Frankie!” I protested. “We don’t blackmail our guests.”
“Technically,” he said, holding up a finger, “it’s extortion.”

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Angie Fox writes sweet, fun, action-packed mysteries. Her characters are clever and fearless, but in real life, Angie is afraid of basements, bees, and going up stairs when it is dark behind her. Let’s face it. Angie wouldn’t last five minutes in one of her books.
