A critical study of the letters of Paul, explicating his thought concerning such topics as the Incarnation, the Crucifixion, the Resurrection, faith, grace, and sin
WIlliam Barclay was a Scottish author, radio and television presenter, Church of Scotland minister, and Professor of Divinity and Biblical Criticism at the University of Glasgow. He wrote a popular set of Bible commentaries on the New Testament that sold 1.5 million copies.
A good overview of Pauline theology. The part I appreciated most is the reminder that Paul was not a systematic theologian - he wrote from his experience.
Have you ever wondered how Paul came to the conclusions he did? Are you somewhat baffled about his writings? This is a wonderful small book that gives insights into the thinking behind Paul's writings. It will change your mind about some of the things you thought you knew.
Barclay brings historical and cultural background to the life and writings of Apostle Paul. His theological insights are fresh and always thought provoking. This commentary is a mainstay in my daily Bible Studies.
A great introduction to Pauline theology. The author makes almost forensic use of Paul's letters to delineate Paul's understanding on faith, the Holy Spirit, grace and Jesus. The historical background to Paul and his time is very interesting. The remarkable aspect to Pauline theology is how nothing has changed in over 2000 years. He recognized the truth and thought deeply enough about it from the start. His Christian thought is as relevant today as during his lifetime. The book brought St Paul to life for me. Highly recommend.
