Single is the first book in the new spin off series of the New York Kings Series by Collette West, called Stockton Beavers. While I have not read the entire New York Kings series, yet, I have read a couple of the books and I really enjoyed them, so I knew that I was probably going to enjoy this one just as much. It was a tough read for me, because of the subject matter but I loved the story and romance. Luke and Rober

So I don’t know anything about baseball but apparently I love it’s players because reading romance novels featuring these delicious men has been my new kick for a while. Obviously then Single was an immediate must read for me but it was also unlike any other sports romance novel I’ve ever read.

The biggest reason for this was the hero who was so refreshingly different. He wasn’t the cocky player, or the manwhore or the star player with the reputation. He wasn’t big and tall and bountiful muscle

When I first heard about SINGLE I was a little unsure of it because I hadn't been a big fan of Roberta in Collette West's New York Kings books, but as I read more and more excerpts and sneak peeks, I grew more and more excited to meet Luke and to finally learn Roberta's story! So, when Collette West asked me if I'd like to help her out by beta reading SINGLE, I jumped at the chance! It was definitely the right choice because I was hooked from the start. I'm so glad that I kept reading excerpts, ...more

Luke awww....Luke he is the epitome of everything we want in a guy. He is quiet but strong in his quiet way. he is strong inside and out. Kind, caring, smart, gentle, an alpha male without being seen as one. A rock without acting like one. Loyal and just all around everything we desire. He doesn’t need to act a certain way and is comfortable with who he is. He treats people with respect and kindness. He has such strength and determination. Heck to go through what he did and come out not only ali ...more

I am a big fan of sports romances - and I am always delighted to find one which rocks the mold a bit. Luke has recently recovered from a life threatening injury sustained in a baseball game. He is young, and his whole life has been baseball, so in spite of his fears he needs to get back on the pitch. He is short, under-rated and his nickname single is due to his ongoing status. He is however most definitely one of the go

After falling in love with the men of Ms. West's New York Kings series, I was excited for the chance to get to know about the men and lives of a small town team far away from the glitz and glamour of the Big Leagues. Again Ms. West doesn't disappoint as she's crafted a story long on emotions as two bruised souls try to recover from their painful pasts at the hands of one man. Throw in a sweet romance and a deft and careful handling of the weighty issues of domestic abuse, and the all-encompassin ...more

I have to say, the best part about this book for me was the male lead. I loved that Luke wasn't the typical book boyfriend we all latch onto. He wasn't a all-star player, or a ladies man. He is an underdog.

After suffering a serious injury and now dealing with an ailing mother, Luke's focus is off and he's scattered trying to take care of everything at home while improving his game.

Roberta has past experience as a caregiver, it's like fate when she shows up on his doo

Single is the first book in the new Stockton Beavers series from Collette West. This series is a spin-off of her New York Kings series, so if you have read any of those books you will recognize a few familiar faces here. Don't worry if you haven't though as Single is a complete standalone and you do not need to have read any of those to understand this one.

Now, as a convert to the merits of baseball by the sheer enjoyment of Collette West New York Kings, I was delighted that she had another series coming out and when I discovered that there were cross over characters, well it was sure to be a blissful experience…but was I right?

Beth's Review

I was first introduced to Collette West’s writing when I decided to check out Game Winner, the fifth book in the New York King’s series. I am a lover of sports romances and enjoyed Game Winner so when I saw that she had a new spin-off series coming out, I decided to check out Single.

Luke Singleton is not your typical cocky baseball jock. He is a sweet and very humble guy who just wants to get back to playing a game he loves, but also look after his mom. Luke’s dad was always known a

Luke "Single" Singleton, Jr. is absolutely the perfect beta, baseball-playing hero!

I loved him from the first page--his determination to take care of his mother, even if he has to forgo his lifelong dream, was just so sweet, and though we didn't see most of it directly, the way he fought even to get back on the field in the first place after a horrific injury was just amazing. Clearly, this is not a guy who's going to give up on anything easily.

Really, Roberta should have known better than to tr

I love Luke Singleton! If you love the Sports Romance genre, specifically baseball. You'll be very pleased with this overall story. If I look at this book/audiobook as a whole, I am overall pleased with the story. If I pick it apart, not as much.

I really like Luke's storyline and Luke's character! He's an athlete coming back from an injury dealing with some pretty serious stuff in his home life. But, he's helped through it all by Roberta. She's kind, caring, compassionate and it's impossible for

I didn’t realize I can like Roberta, not until I read SINGLE.

It was like seeing another side of her, a side that you’d be surprised, you’d love and you’d finally understand. This was one of the things you should look forward in Collete West’s new New York King’s Novel. She might not have a stellar past, and yes, she hooked up with some of the Kings – but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There is more to her than that part of her past. I can finally understand why she doesn’

Single is the first book of the Stockton Beavers series, a spin off to Collette West's New York Kings baseball series. It was entertaining and intriguing. West did a great job setting the stage and the characters for a new series.

Single, was the first book that I have listened to on Audible. I quite enjoyed the narration, I particularly liked the male narrator Gary Furlong. On the other hand I felt that Aundrea Mitchell needs to work on her vocals for male characters. At times there was not a great deal of variation to the pitch and inflection and her pace was a bit slower than her male counterpart.

Being ill the last few days, I found listening to this book and lazing on the couch a wonderful way t

I am a diehard fan of Collette West's New York Kings, so I jumped at the chance to read the first book in her new Stockton Beaver's series, Single. I was psyched that she was giving me the opportunity to love a whole new roster of players.

And Single was everything I could ask for from a sports romance - I absolutely loved it!

Luke has fought hard to come back from that awful night when he was hit while standing in the batters box. Now that he has gotten the chance to get back on the field he is not certain that he can do it. Not because he is worried about getting hit again but because he needs to look after his mother. The Alzheimer's is getting worse and she can't be left along. Determined to keep her at home as his father had planned. He is so torn between his love for both
A true sports romance, but filled with so much more. This slow burn love story had heart, but there was also a great immersion into the baseball life. I liked that there was a balance and the story wasn’t solely centered around either.

Luke ‘Single’ Singleton was my favorite, because he wasn’t your typical romance hero. There was no cockiness, no player lifestyle, no asshole alpha personality. Physically, he’s shorter than most with no Adonis muscles to speak of. He’s a good ol’ fashion good guy.

I must admit, this was my first romance story I’ve listened to on audiobook. In the past I’ve only ever listened to mystery or general fiction. I am pleased to say that I was pleasantly surprised with this audiobook. I was weary of how a romance story would be portrayed as an audio, and if it would sound cheesy.

I love almost all sports romances. (Soccer is my only exception.) My favorite of all sports is baseball. As a huge baseball fan, I live, breathe, and bleed it. If I could eat it, I proba

Baseball plus romance equals an awesome book! Collette West has done it again with her book Single! Not only does it incorporate a great sport, but it also pulls at the heart strings and addresses a topic that many are afraid to face – Alzheimer’s. I applaud her for that and say GREAT JOB!

Luke got injured playing ball when he took a pitch to the neck. This would have made most players quit the game, but not him. He battled back and wouldn’t let anything stop him, but during his recovery things a

Single is the first book in the Stockton Beavers series.
This is a series but it would appear each book will be about a different player.
If you haven't read her other baseball series The New York King's you are missing out.
This is sort of a spin off series from that and some of the characters will appear in this book too.
I would give this book a 4 stars and highly recommend to others.
This isn't your typical buff baseball player gets the girl.. this is sort of the underdog takes his chance.

Luke has always been the underdog. He isn't your average Jock, he is compassionate, understanding, thinks of others, and most of all is determined to keep his promise that he made after his fathers passing. He would take care of his mom no matter what the cost.

Roberta is trying to run away from her fears again, but what she doesn't expect is to find herself helping Luke with his "secret." But, she soon realizes that without her help he is going to end up losing the two things that mean the most

Luke is not your typical book boyfriend.

He is not rich.
He is not famous.
He is humble.

I am in awe of this latest read by Collette West. She went out of the box and made a total hero out of an ordinary guy. I love Luke as much as I loved the guys of the New York Kings. He is not a superstar but he is definitely extraordinary in his own element. His character is so endearing and he's the sweetest as well. His determination and courage astounds me. The moment

First off I want to start by confessing that I have never been a huge fan of audiobooks. They generally move to slow for my liking since I'm a fast reader or they narrators speak in monotone voices, taking away from an authors amazing storyline. However, I had a super busy week full of writing papers, so I downloaded this audiobook on my iPhone and listened to it while st

This is my first book from this author and I was drawn to this title because it's baseball season! I was looking for a baseball romance and this one seemed to fit the bill.

Luke is recovering from a sports injury. He's got baseball in his blood with his father having been a pro player. But his world is turned on its side when his mother's Alzheimers gets worse and when he gets called back to play, he's got to make decisions about her care. He's promised himself that he won't put her in a home, s

Collette West grew up as somewhat of a jock-nerd hybrid. Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball's biggest rivals. Not to be outdone, her book-loving mom taught her how to read by the time she was three. A love of the game coupled with an appreciation for the ...more
