About the author

Philip Martyn Serrell is an English auctioneer, antiques expert and television presenter.

Serrell was born in Kidderminster, Worcestershire and attended the Royal Grammar School in Worcester, where he was a schoolmate of the Pakistani cricket captain Imran Khan. Serrell played both cricket and rugby for the school, prior to his attendance at, and graduation from, Loughborough College of Physical Education as a physical education teacher.

Goodreads tells that there are no Kindle editions of this book which rather strange as I have just finished the Kindle edition. Philip Serrell is well known to watchers of the Antiques Roadshow and such like. A likeable person who come across as slightly eccentric. To see him now you would hardly think that he started out as a PE instructor. This is how he started out as a auctioneer in Worcester. It is a gentle story that is easy to read and quite funny in places, especially when it comes to his boss, Mr Rayer and his colleagues. I give it 4.5 stars

An endearing collection of anecdotes from auctioneer Philip Serrell. As with James Herriot or Gervase Phinn, the rural adventures include the heart warming (the two tables), the disastrous (the cricket club dinner), the reflective (the smelly man) and the amusing. Collectively they leave you with the impression that the author has had an incredibly interesting and rewarding career.
