John Doody, Bio

I got the writing bug when I was eighteen and out at sea. I wrote a poem or two and some of the guys on the ship liked them. After I left the navy, I wrote poetry regularly. While on a bus ride from Texas to Florida, I roughed out an idea for a novel. It was way harder than I thought it would be, but I stuck with it and through the years learned the craft and the business. I took time off from writing and when I returned to it in 2009 I was older and more focused and I took some of my original ideas and forged the Guild books from them. I'm currently on hiatus from those books and instead have been working on a brand new idea that blends horror and science fiction. I call the book, The Dark, and I can't wait for you to meet Nero Keats. Won't be long now!

A good read with good characters. Little slow in places but I managed to read it. So only 3*. Netgalley and E treasure publishing.

Return of the Crimson Witch is an entertaining and often humorous sci fi story, continuing the guild saga. Now a mysterious death is tied to one of the most important pieces of technology, the M-3, and a seemingly impending civil war threatens the galaxy. The plot itself moves quickly and holds your imagination, and the great cast of characters create a lively and oftentimes fun atmosphere. I loved Thad’s charm and ability, and really liked his character’s story throughout especially his relationship with Maggie Thorn. I think that Doody writes his characters very well, bringing so much life to this already entertaining story.

There is absolutely no reason reading the first 2 books is a must to fully enjoy this great science fiction story. This book has a little bit of everything: unknown enemies, thrill, love, double-crossing, just to name a few. I don’t particularly care for Science Fiction, but this was well worth my time. The story itself is fast paced, so I was never bored. The author does a tremendous job of really bringing these (sometimes humorous) characters to life! Good read!
