A Novella in the Delectable Series

A week before Christmas, Alex Bancroft’s bakery goes up in flames. When he runs back inside after a dog, firefighter Kevin Flint has to rescue Alex—and Quincy—from the smoldering building, endangering them and inflaming Kevin’s resentment.

Now Alex can’t create the elaborate gingerbread house he donates to a foster-kids charity each year. F

I'm devouring all the holiday stories I can get my hands on, and honestly this one, with all the baking was especially yummy.

Kevin has a lot to live up to. His grandfather, his father and his siblings are all in firefighters or police officers. He seems to have a chip on his shoulder and is very careful to not be outed in anyway.
When he meets Alex, while rescuing a dog from his apartment, there is more than just the spark that started the kitchen fire.
But honestly Kevin is an ass! He knows

A sweet holiday confection! And I'm totally going to try those recipes she includes at the end to make gingerbread!

This is the very first E.M. Lynley I have read. So I really had no idea what to expect in terms of writing style. The works had been recommended to me by friends so I took this chance. And there are no regrets. However, it was a style I was not used to. It is a plot that I found a bit formulaic at first until.....

The books starts off with a fire and it is bringing down the bakery of a very popular baker of the area. Alex had been known

I enjoyed the story and the way the firemen gave their time to help Alex with the cookies and the palace. I didn't like Kevin as a person at all. He did his job as a fireman but was selfish when away from the job. Bidding on the Gingerbread Palace seemed too much too late.

Saved by stuffed turtle and bed controller! XD

Of the stories in the series, this was the most clicked with me. Like previous books, this novella could be read as standalone. The only tie-in between each books were the mentions of MC or their brand from others in the series.

In Gingerbread Palace we met a firefighter MC with chips on his shoulders and a bakery owner who had overcome childhood abuse and harassment. One a jerk in the closet, the other a happy flirty out and proud guy. When the tease

E.M. Lynley presents a nice holiday story with Gingerbread Palace. The firefighters' work is incredibly well written, educating the reader. Alex's work is also described in such detail we get to understand the hard work put into it.

Regarding the story itself, after what Kevin did and how it brought back awful memories to Alex, I believe it should've taken a lot more time for them to become more than friends. Also, the fact that Alex believed that Kevin was a nice guy after all just because he ri

I don't understand. How can you go from being so mean and cruel to someone to someone you're crazy about in a blink of an eye?

Kevin acted like a complete dick for most of this story. I didn't like him and no one can make me like him. Did Kevin and Alex even have an actual conversation? I think Kevin learned most about him through other people or when Alex was yelling at him. Good for Alex for telling him off, too.

Then there's the ending. Ummm....(view spoiler)

Boy do I want to bake gingerbread cake and fireman cookies now!

I'm a little overdosed on holiday stories, and still have lots of Advent Calendar stories to read, so no long reviews this season. I did really like how Kevin showed Alex he was serious and their date in the hospital... so sweet.

And of course, Firemen=hot any day of the year. You can't go wrong with that!

31/2 stars. Nice short read, just what was needed after reading a few intense novels. Story was predictable but it raised awareness for an organization unknown to me: CASA. I will check out the website.

An enjoyable story that wasn't as saccharine sweet as I had feared it might be.

3.5 Stars ~'Gingerbread Palace' is book four in EM Lynley's 'Delectable' series, but this is a series of books which can very easily be read as stand alones. I was attracted to this particular book because, well, I definitely have a fireman kink. Who doesn't? Four years in a row, my blessed mother bought me the WA Fireman calendar, and went and met them to get it signed. That's motherly love, I tell you. So that was part of my interest, and the other part involved baking. I love to bake, it's wh ...more

Alex (who’s had a rough childhood) suffers again when his bakery goes up in flames and he’s accused of causing it by a closeted fireman, Kevin.

Kevin is super attracted to Alex and that scares him. Though he acts on his passion for Alex with a night of hot sex, he turns into a raging a**hole in the morning and accuses Alex of arson.

Alex is done with being treated like dirt by closet cases and decides to explore a relationship with another fire-fighter who isn’t ashamed to be seen with him.

I fell in love with Alex the moment he appeared on the page. Once I got his background story, I wanted to hug him and celebrate his courage. Kevin is a different story. At first, he was easy to dislike.

On the surface, Kevin has it all, however; his life is ruled by fear. Kevin was 14 when his dad found out he was gay. Instead of talking to his son, he distanced himself and the family never really talked about it. This has a profound affect on Kevin. He has always wanted to be firefighter. Kevin

This is the first story I have read by this author so I was able to go in without expectations, except hoping for a good time, of course. I was not let down in the least. In fact, this is a fine representation of a feel good story for the season.

Ms. Lynley's characterizations are honestly descriptive without distracting from the smooth flow of the tale, allowing the reader to experience the perceptions of being a participant as well as an observer. I found myself immediately disliking one charac

Well, I really really like gingerbread men :) and I have no idea why i always choose Xmas books to read on a beach, but yeah that's exactly what happened:)

It wasn't anything spectacular, but it was ok. I could absolutely understand why Kevin and Alex acted the way they did, BUT it was a lil bit too short to give a real background for characters, it was kind of stupid that Kevin risked his life to get a stuffed animal (seriously???!!) and why the hell would someone decide that he wants to be with

What can I say? I really loved this story! Especially when I came across this quote, “All the apologies in the world didn’t mean anything without action and sincerity.” Not to mention it brought to my attention these charities for foster children. Even though I felt Kevin started off as a JERK! He eventually warmed up to a decent human being. I found myself riveted to the storyline, and had me a couple of belly laughs too.

Gingerbread Palace by EM Lynley is the story of a suspicious arson that leaves a bakery without its ability to produce the season’s treats that the community looks forward to each year. Alex, the baker owner, is a community icon, donating not only his gingerbread goodies but also his time and service to local charities that help foster kids and abused children. When his shop catches fire, it is Kevin, a closeted and angry firefighter who comes to the rescue. As the story progresses, each of thes ...more

Why was I annoyed for pretty much the whole first half of the book? Kevin and Alex just rubbed each other the wrong way right from the beginning... except in bed, then all the rubbing was just RIGHT!!! *grin*

I can't say I loved the story, but I did like it and the whole "charity" aspect really resonated with me... Alex's dedication to his cause was admirable and I hope this story helped to make more readers aware of the issues of foster care... with the many wonderful foster families and unfortu

A tasty treat!

I loved that Alex was a baker and has a thing for gingerbread. It's my favorite thing at Christmas. But Alex wasn't always my favorite in this book. I liked him initially but somewhere along the way, he started to annoy me. Kevin, on the other hand, grew on me and didn't let go. Don't get me wrong, he made me pretty angry with him in his own right but I liked the guy. This story was really good. I love firemen books and loved the details the author included. They brought the story

I wanted to love this. The author really supports kids in foster care and they are the focus of the charitable work in the book. She even donated all the proceeds of the sequel, An Extra Helping of Gingerbread, to a charity for LGBTQ foster kids. And there were lots of things to love: the focus on charitable work; the realistic feeling cooking stuff (I can't cook to save my life but it sounded like Cake Boss and you know everything on TV is true. But seriously, it was described so well that even ...more

Alex's bakery goes up in flames. The FD Kevin recently joined comes to put out the fire. It's dislike at first sight between the deeply closeted fireman and out-and proud-baker, not lastly because Alex runs back into the fire to save a dog and Kevin has to go after him to save both. However, it's also mutual attraction on both sides. A major problem for Kevin. For Alex is well-liked among Kevin's new FD, and they even let him use the firehouse's kitchen for his annual charity baking event since ...more

I love food centric books. It is just a 'thing' with me. I also love holiday stories and Gingerbread Palace was a success on both counts. Alex Bancroft is the owner of Bancroft's Buns. We enter the story in the midst of a fire at the bakery with Alex and his staff being taken out of the bakery when Alex realizes a dog he is watching is still in the building. Instead of listening to hunky firefighter, Kevin Flints warning to not enter the building, Alex runs in anyway, both endangering himself an ...more

I struggled with this one. While Alex was a character who I found a connection with, Kevin was outright cruel multiple times, and that was it. I was done with him. When Alex looked like he was maybe going to have a date with a different firefighter, I was down for that, and hoping the story would go that way instead, but it didn't, and while Kevin made a grand gesture at the very, very end, it felt a little bit too much like a relationship based on emotional abuse rather than attraction: he said ...more

A new Christmastime novella added to the Delectable series by EM Lynley!

Gingerbread Palace features Kevin, a firefighter, who has no desire for any of his coworkers to know he's gay and Alex a local baker who's known for his amazing gingerbread creations. The two meet under the worst of circumstances as Alex's bakery kitchen goes up in flames. OMH this book made me a little crazy. Sometimes it's just not fair that I can't crawl into a book and smack someone upside the head!

Kevin comes from a long line of firefighters, so he has a legacy to live up to, which isn't always easy. Add in the fact that he is gay and so far in the closet he is in Narnia and you can almost understand his attitude. Notice I said almost....because if a fictional character ever needed a smack down Kevin is that character.

On the other hand, you have Alex who is s
