I have been a lifelong writer and storyteller. Salem, Oregon is where I spent my formative years and I graduated from Willamette University. After college, I spent a decade living in Portland, Oregon where I worked in advertising, game design, and technology.
I've written young adult and children's books for Scholastic, Little Brown Books For Young Readers and Katherine Tegen Books/ HarperCollins Publishers.
I've been fortunate enough to have had some bestselling series work: The Land of Elyon, Atherton, Elliot’s Park, 39 Clues, and Skeleton Creek. Here's a fun note...the books have been translated into approximately two dozen languages. Currently I'm developing a few new-media projects. Check out DARK EDEN to experience this type of cross-platform project.
When I'm not writing or creating a story, I spend my free time supporting literacy campaigns and community organizations, fly fishing, playing basketball and tennis, doing crosswords, watching movies, dabbling in video games, reading (lots), and (more than anything else) spending time with my wife and two daughters.

Like every book, this book has a story behind. Last year in one of the most special events my country has at every year, I took my little brother with me on his holiday to get some different joy in different place. That was "Baghdad International Exhibition for books" at the end of the tour my little brother "Arshed" got tired and started complaining, when we arrived to "Mahrousa center for Publishing" I bought some books and the head menager looked out to my little brother and asked him why the gloomy face boy.. He answered with nothing but the man left a coloured book and handed it to my little brother. I told him to say thank you and he did. So my little brother not much of a reader, I choosed to give a look on the book and I knew it's a children's book however I read it and liked it, it was really funny and good journey.
145 pages. This is the second book in the series. This time Harold invites a trusted friend to join him in Fizzopolis. The adventures get pretty crazy and they have to fight some creatures of goo called Floozombies. Kids will like this series. I was ok with it. Some parts seemed to drag on a bit, but the illustrations throughout are quite dramatic and funny. Recommended for Grades 4-5.
It's usually not fair to describe books by comparing them to other books. What exactly does it mean to say some book is in "the tradition of" Harry Potter meets "War and Peace" and "Heart of Darkness"? It does seem fair, though, to mention books that all revolve around a certain style and target reading audience. With that in mind, I think this book falls nicely into the best-pals-have-nutsy-frantic-fantasyish-adventures, with slime, category.
So, if your younger reader likes Captain Underpants, or Wiley and Grampa, or pretty much anything with space boogers, then this could be a nice choice. Harold is a fine, decent and resourceful hero. His gal-pal partner, Sammy, is just as smart and gung-ho as he is. Floyd the creature is an amusing sidekick. Crazy inventor Dad is a classic absent-minded professor type. The world of Fizzopolis is as antic and fizzy and hyper as you could possibly want. The plot is straightforward - something goes wrong, the town is in peril, and who you gonna call?
This kind of stuff can get exhausting and/or confusing unless the author has a firm grip on the manic action. For me, this book went right up to the edge. The combination of breathless action and the weirdness of Fizzopolis always stayed on the tracks, though, and I could easily see an adventurous young reader getting a real kick out of the ride. So, a fun goof and a nicely crafted bit of silliness. A happy find.
