I LOVE Barry Wolverton's books. I've read all of them so far, and I plan on reading everything he writes in the future.

The Dragon's Gate is the second book in The Chronicles of the Black Tulip series and picks up right where The Vanishing Island ended. Bren and Mouse are stranded on the island until the rest of the survivors from the ship manage to find them.

The story is split three ways, with one vein following Bren and Mouse. Another follows an adventuring woman named Barrett, and the third fo

This is a book that I can say I am amazed that I actually finished. Not a very interesting. At least the 1st book had something to talk about (even if gross). This book did not even have that. Just lots and lots of pages of the 5 travelers traveling and lots of attention to the details of the bridges that they needed to cross.

Bren and Mouse return on an epic journey that will take them
into the heart of China.
At the same time, David Owen, Bren's father, and Archibald Black, the book seller
leave Holland in search of Bren.
A lot of the action reminded me of the Indiana Jones movies.

While the content was interesting and the eastern mythology enjoyable, the writing was bland and his original characters were boring.

It started off solid, but the ending was pure poo.

The book design and binding is gorgeous.

This series is a really good, old fashion, travel adventure story, set when the world was still an unknown and mysterious place. Not everyone is safe and the world is scary and dangerous, but that doesn't stop our young adventurer, Bren and it should stop anyone else!

Fascinated by the shift in storytelling styles from Book One—it shifts to match the new mythologies driving the story—from European myths to Chinese myths. I felt it wasn't as strong as the first book in the series, but happy to follow the characters and Mouse's search for her origins.

Not as good as the first book, The Vanishing Island. Some parts were too dragged out (i.a.).

Great adventure

A wonderful fantasy adventure rooted in Far East mythology, keeps you on your toes and cheering for the little band of intrepid explorers the entire time!
