"In our time photography was unpredictable and allowed for chance, the more one risked (whether physically or emotionally), the deeper one dared to go, the closer one looked, the more likely the tissue would reveal a jewel."

Golin is a highly controversial photographer. Her subject matter deals with LGBT issues, opioid addiction, sexuality, domesticity, and suicide, to name a few.
This collection is the result of an invitation from the Louvre, where Goldin could photograph artworks of her choice and pair them with photos of friends.
The title referring to pearl divers, who are almost always female, and must dive, again and again, to gather oysters (more than a ton of oysters produces three or four quality pearls).
