Presents information about various aspects of the environment, including recycling, radiation, pollution, rain forests, deserts, coral reefs, and more, in question and answer format.
During my career as a professional educator, I taught fifth grade for two years and was responsible to provide all the materials for the science portion of the curriculum. One of the required science subject was to study the environment. I purchased When Is It Great To Turn Green ~ An Environment Q & A Book by Michele Ingber Drohan as a classroom resource.
It was very popular due to the format of questions and answers and the humor included in the text. Because of both of these features it was a good resource for the small science library I provided.
This is a factual question and answer book that teaches children about the environment. Some of the questions answered are important knowledge they should be coming to understand while some is random/quirky facts. The book is humorous and colorful so I think most children would enjoy it.
When is it Great to Turn Green is a book full up silly questions followed by the scientific answers. It is a lengthy book so I would not recommend it for independent reading for young children, but it would be good for sciene teachers to read certain sections before doing a lesson that applies to the particular section.
