Enjoyed this manga much more than expected. The beginning was a bit cringe-y, and I kept wondering why the main female lead Hana kept chasing after such a cold guy, but after the first couple volumes the story actually becomes quite heartwarming as you can see her influence on Yuzuru. He starts out as a bad guy who gets into fights and sleeps around with women but eventually becomes someone who shakes off his apathy and has a reason to live.

It's a bit different from a lot of other shoujo manga as there isn't a second male lead who falls in love with Hana, though there is a second female love interest in the form of Ruka who made me really angry. I thought she was really cool at first when she saved Hana from a bit of trouble, but slowly the mangaka destroyed her character. I don't understand why she's trying to hold Yuzuru back in the past when he's finally ready to move ahead with his life, but not cool girl.

I also really appreciated that the mangaka focused on real world concerns that high school students have to go through, such as deciding a career and figuring out what they want to do after graduating high school. Because of this, it felt more mature than many of the other shoujo manga I've read, which tend to gloss over these kinds of things. The last chapter of them moving in together was super cute too.

The art style was your typical shoujo art with the big eyes, but Hana was so beautifully drawn and Yuzuru was seriously kakkoii. I loved Hana's smiling face, and she had some really cute outfits as well!

This was a hidden gem for me, and I'm so glad I came across it. I'd definitely come back and reread it again!

Cliche and dramatic and full of misunderstandings that could easily be solved by simple communication and yet... I loved this manga. The last five chapters make the entire thing worth it. On paper it has all the elements of a bad relationship and story but somehow it works. I’m marking this a guilty pleasure to reread in a few years.

This manga was quite a surprise for me, a good one. It is still cheesy and corny, just as almost every shoujo manga, but 'Boku ni Hana Melancholy' has some extra toppings that made me continue reading.
We have these childhood best friends that got separated for different reasons; when they meet again ten years later, they discover that they've become strangers. It was so refreshing to see how our main characters will evolve across the story, how they will learn to know themselves better. It was super interesting and wholesome for me. Also, I love how the story introduces this message that not just because you are part of a relation you are not able to grow up. (Grow as we go by Ben Platt was playing in my head all the time).
Anyway, I have some issues with the incomplete side characters and how we forget about them on the last pages. I would like to see how they somehow find peace(?
But after all, it was such a good manga that made me feel a lot. Thank you so much Mikko Komori!

I really don't like this. 😞

Main girl is adorable but she's too obsessed with the main guy even though he's cold. She's also the naive innocent type, probably no dating history, probably has never been kissed, probably has never even held hands. The main guy is of course the complete opposite. He's always getting in fist fights, never really talks to girls unless it's to fuck them nevertheless he's popular, probably is how he is because his mom died, has abandonment issues. 🙃🙃😐

I can already see what's going to happen next and it's cringy.

Good girl falls for bad boy. They were childhood sweethearts when they were very young (elementary school age), but she had to move away and lost contact. When she meets him again, she still loves him but he's no longer the sweet boy she remembers.*** This is a pretty straight forward love story. It does the job, but for my money, My Little Monster (Tonari no monster) took the same plot device of Good Girl & Bad Boy and did it better. I prefer the author's previous series I Love You, Baby. The mother's psychological issues gave a unique twist to an otherwise simple love story.

I’m sucker for the quiet, brooding boy lol

I also love how sweet and caring Hana is.

Also, who doesn’t love a childhood friends to lovers story???

No.

Grand opening. Grand closing!

So, a girl reunites with her childhood friend, but wait, guys, he's EDGY now. He sleeps with every girl he sees, fights dudes everywhere, and he's got a bad attitude because he's a BAD BOY.

Yuzuru or whatever his name is too rude and surly to the forgettable female lead. Also, she tries to help dress his wounds, and he immediately starts trying to have sex with her until she pushes him off. Like, bruh nooooooooo. I don't mind tsundere, bad boys "with a heart of gold", but this guy is too annoying and unlikeable.

DROPPED like a hot potato.

If there's any merit, the artwork is very pretty.
