Ahh so good! Rick does it again!

I enjoyed this so much! Though I will admit that I didn't enjoy it as much as book one. Percy is such a fun narrator and I'm excited to continue following his journey.

Notes: It finds emotion and character in shame and open wounds; set beyond humanity’s shores, adrift in primeval bedlam.

A guy in Greek armor drew his sword and charged, but slipped in a puddle of pina colada.

Really, who can not love a book with lines like that? I actually had the urge take this book in my hand with a strong grip and whirl it towards my head for waiting so long to read this series. I just kept putting it off for some reason or other. Luckily I came to my senses.

For the most part things have been pretty quiet this school year and Percy even makes a new friend named Tyson, a giant of a kid. Well,

Sounds like a really nice night at Camp Halfblood, right? I mean who wouldn’t want to sing “This Land is Mino’s Land”? (On a side-note: Uncle Rick if you read this, can I please have the lyrics for those songs? *lol* I’d love to read them!!!) Un

if you see me lowering my 5 star rating to 4, look away

(this has always been my least favorite of the series but I still love it of course)

——————

Annabeth: she fell off and died along the way but that’s not important

Percy: well it was probably important to her

...don’t mind me crying over this for no reason...

——————

it’s Percy Jackson’s birthday and I’m going through a reading slump, so tell me right now, to my face, one good reason I shouldn’t start rereading the rest of this series

its been a minute, but im finally back in the world of percy jackson and all the greek mythology goodness!

just like when i read ‘the lightning thief,’ i really wish i had read this when i was middle grade aged. it definitely would have kickstarted my obsession with greek mythology much earlier. that is for sure the strength of this series, especially when reading as an adult. the fun little cameo of circe in this was such a highlight for me. its so entertaining to see these myths play a part in

Another 5* from Celyn.

I read this book to her out of order, having read book 1 then book 3 before it. I hate it when people do that, but the books are pretty stand-alone and we picked the wrong one when leaving the house in a hurry.

Actually I can now better appreciate the cross-book story and it's quite clever, so that's good.

This volume continues the mix of Greek myth, modern America, and teenagers. Percy battles through various monsters in bloodless battles where the beasties turn to mist on

Tomorrow, I'd be be on my way to my favorite place in the world-Camp Half-Blood.

This is the last day in Percy's 7th grade. For the first time in his life, he almost makes it an entire year without getting expelled. No attacks or anything that can make him expelled and tomorrow he'll be going to camp Half-Blood but then Percy's mother tells him that Chiron sent her a message last night saying that it might not be safe for Percy to come to Camp half-blood and

Wowowowo!! What an amazing adventure it was!! I loved it! Percy's narration was still amazing!

Now Camp Half-Blood's magical boundary has been weakened as someone has poisoned the Pine Tree which strengthen it. There is only cure to reverse the effect of poison. For this cure, Percy has to go on a quest to find it. A fatal quest!

I loved everything in this book!!
Action scenes were amazing.
Chariot Races were also amazing.

Don't worry guys, I'm still continuing on to book 3 (and soon). I just really didn't care for this one.

I still enjoyed the characters but the plot wasn't really fun to read and I didn't feel it developed much of anything either. I'm excited for book 3 though because I enjoyed book 1 so much

Ugh, I’m sooooo late with this review (not that anyone has been holding their breath since – let’s be real – I’m probably that 0.01% who hasn’t read Percy Jackson in their life) but hey better late than never, right?

Soooo, this book. This book was epic. For a middle school series, Rick Riordan truly went all out. The characters, the plot, the battles, the adventures; the pre-wedding it was all spectacular.

(Notice all the vague adjectives I’m using bc I’m a loser who went ahead and read the ne

Loving this series.

Between working my way through this series, the Harry Potter series, and Miss Peregrine’s series this year, I am enjoying myself immensely. I am apparently newly obsessed with middle grade fantasy and comic books.

Who would have thunk it.

And to know Riordan has three other series in addition to this one just makes me childishly joyful.

What is it with me and not knowing how I feel about rating a book lately!

I would like to give all the stars to Tyson! I am in love with Tyson and what he is =) I'm really hoping to get more of him in the other books.

I thought the rest of the book was good and I love reading about all of the creatures. Of course, Percy and them are usually getting in trouble with all of said creatures. Well, not the sweet ones.

I look forward to finishing the box set =)

I think the humor is definitely my favorite thing about these books. I wish I had read them a few years ago but I'm still really enjoying them as an adult too. I can't wait to read the next one!

Also, can we just talk about those Goodreads emails "You've finished the book!" I know, Goodreads. I just told you that myself.

'Um... no. Me running the world would be kind of a nightmare.”

this and the final book were tied as my favourite I enjoyed Sea of Monsters SO much. After reading The Lightning Thief, I wasn't sure if I would ever continue this series. It didn't grab me as I would have wanted and I didn't feel very connected to the characters. But Sea of Monsters FINALLY got me on board. Something about it was just so, so much

I always get a bit nervous going into the second book in a series. There's a lot of pressure on the author to prove that the first wasn't just a fluke, and that they can keep the story compelling over the course of a number of middle-books in the series before reaching the grand finale. I h

I don't get it. I just don't really like this series. My two kids would argue to the death with me about them, and I don't know why I don't like them, I just...don't.

Maybe I don't like ancient Greeks mixing with 21st-century Americans. Maybe it's Annabeth's recurring refrain of "oh my gods" that drives me insane, or maybe it's the fact that you can't turn 3 pages without Percy being in mortal peril. (Too much adventure is bad for the heart.) Maybe I can't buy into so many perfectly-timed rescue

The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #2), Rick Riordan

After a year spent trying to prevent a catastrophic war among the Greek gods, Percy Jackson finds his seventh-grade school year unnervingly quiet. His biggest problem is dealing with his new friend, Tyson--a six-foot-three, mentally challenged homeless kid who follows Percy everywhere, making it hard for Percy to have any "normal" friends.

But things don't stay quiet for long. Percy soon discovers there is trouble at Camp Half-

Look mom! It’s a book! It’s a movie! No, it’s a book that is better than the movie!!!

Now, I know that is the case in 90% of the cases, but here it is so painfully obvious. The movies butchered Kronos’ arc and that is one of the best arcs in any book I’ve ever read.

Seriously, Kronos and that main minion of him (I won’t name him because I don’t want to spoil things) are such amazing villains.

And then you have Riordan’s jokes. Bring ‘em on Rick!!

Lately I've been avoiding overuse of 4 starred reviews, because they are the most common ratings generally speaking. And thus, by proxy, they are the most misleading ones. But if any book deserves high plaudits it's The Sea of Monsters.

I could tell that snippets of this book were derivative. Some of the borrowing of ideas led the trail straight to Greek myths. Others faintly reminded me of Harry Potter. There's no denying that Rick Riordan was the biggest winner among writers. He was smart and q

I started reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters on 2/12/2019 and finished it on 3/7/2019. I am again buddy reading this book with my son, though he has a 100 pages head start since he finished book 1 before me. This book is a great read. The Gray taxi sisters reminds me of the Knight Bus from Harry Potter, with their reckless driving skills. This book Percy also dreams of seeing but not believing whether what he sees is real or just a dream. In the first book, Percy dreams ...more
