This review is of “Scoring Position” book #6 in the “Philadelphia Patriots” series by V.K. Sykes (The team of Vanessa Kelly and her husband, Randy Sykes.)

The Story: The book begins in the Patriots clubhouse. There, we meet the hero of the book, Nick Rome, 33, the Patriots catcher. Nick has just headed into the decline phase of his baseball career, but he wants one more big payday. The problem is: Nick just fired his agent, and now, he has to find a new one. Enter the heroine of the book, Kate Be
I received a free copy of the e-book from the author for an honest review. So, here goes, Scoring Position (Book #6) by the writing team V.K. Sykes was the first book I read in the Philadelphia Patriots series (I have the first 3 in a boxed set). I have to say that I really liked the story. I found the whole baseball/ sports contract negotiating and the behind-the-scenes story very interesting.
The main characters are Kate and Nick. Kate Berlin is a single mom and sports agent. Nick Rome is a hot

The only thing I really want to say about this book is the frustration I had with the baseball facts. Nick Rome played for the Patriots team, a team he wanted to stay with. He did NOT want to be traded. In one point in the book, he made some thoughts about he knew as a catcher he probably wouldn't be able to catch his entire career. That's okay, he could be a designated hitter. Okay. That tells me he plays for the American League. Then, later on in the book, he is doing a charity thing where eve ...more

The world of baseball and romance is once again entertainingly connected in the latest Philadelphia Patriots story. Stakes are high as a multimillion dollar contract is being negotiated, and there definitely should not be any emotional involvement during the discussions. But the sexual attraction between a catcher for the Patriots and his new female agent cannot be denied forever. V.K. Sykes has this couple reacting with such genuineness that they just have to be real. SCORING POSITION puts the ...more

The husband writing team of Vanessa Kelly and Randy Sykes does not disappoint. I enjoyed the subsequent Patriots stories and this too was a joy to read. As a baseball fan in February, I gotta say, I’ve got spring fever.

Nick, like so many other of Sykes’ Patriots players, has some tough decisions ahead and has lived on his terms, not letting any woman get too close. He’s also just fired his agent because he didn’t like the way the guy did business. He takes one meeting with the GM to try to negot

SCORING POSITION is the perfect book to banish the winter doldrums! Nick Rome, catcher for the Philadephia Patriots, just fired his agent. He wants to renegociate his contract, but the management doesn’t want to give him the money he feels he deserves, mostly because of his hot temper. His best friend and teammate, Nate Carter, knows someone: Kate Berlin, who has a small agency, but represents women and no one from baseball. When they meet, Kate and Nick know they can make a great team, as long ...more

4.5 Stars rounded up to 5. I'm not a baseball fan so I wasn't sure whether I was going to like this book or the storyline but I am so glad that I read it. I loved this book! This is the first book I've read by this author and I will definitely be reading more. I really ended up loving the backstory of the baseball contract negotiations and relationships on the team to be fascinating and fun to read about.

This story centers around Kate a single mom and sports agent who is just beginning to get he

This is Book 6 in Sykes' Patriots series, and it was my introduction to the series itself. I am so happy that I read this book and will absolutely read the whole series starting from Book 1, because I enjoyed this book tremendously. Also, being a Philly girl myself, I loved seeing the references to all of the places in Philadelphia that I know and love in my hometown. It added another nice element to the book for me.

The characters are well-developed and complex and are very likable. The two main

love sports romance and I love baseball - so how could this story miss? It absolutely didn't and I was hooked from the moment I turned on my Kindle and read the first page. The characters are well developed, having real life emotions that let the reader get totally involved in the story. I particularly liked that there is baseball in the story, not just the romance of the two main characters. I think it's important for a sports romance to actually talk about the sport and this novel does just t ...more

I'm a huge baseball fan so this book was perfect for me. Coming from the same small town that San Francisco Giants number one pitcher, Madison Bumgarner grew up in, we follow SF from opening day till the completion of the World Series. They have been winners of that coveted ring three times in the last five years. I loved getting to peek behind the curtain and see some of what goes on between an agent and a top ceded ball player. The writing of Vanessa Kelly and Randy Sykes is seamless and the c ...more

This is my very first sport romance as I’m usually knee-deep into historical fiction (whether romance or straight historical) as well as mysteries, thrillers, fantasy and paranormal. I’m not a fan of baseball or any other sports such as golf, football, tennis, soccer or hockey, nope, I’m more into figure skating... but I’ve enjoyed this foray into the world of baseball players, their agents and general managers and the people who share their lives.

I received this book for an honest review.

I am an avid baseball fan and live 5 miles SE of Philadelphia so this book felt like it was written just for me! I enjoyed this book and would have given it 5 stars if the editing had been better.

I liked all the baseball scenes and learned a lot about contract negotiations. I adored Nick who is the first string catcher for the Patriots and is in desperate need of a new agent. Kate is a sports agent who represents female golfers but has never represented

There are a few things Kate Berlin is confident in; she does her best to be a great single parent, her love life has been a train wreck, and she works hard, as an agent, for her athlete clients. In Philadelphia, her career has centered on female golfers, so she's shocked, down to her toes, when the Patriots' star catcher, Nick Rome, asks her to represent him.
Nick has fired his agent and needs someone new. When the veteran pitcher recommends his friend, Kate, Nick is hesitant. Then his contract n

I love sports romance and decided to give V.K. Sykes a try when I received her newsletter asking if anyone wanted a review copy of Scoring Position. From the start, I was hooked. Kate and Nick were great characters and I loved the flow of the story, the romance, the sports aspects. Even if one isn't really into sports, it is not hard to get into the story. I loved Scoring Position so much that after reading it, I one-clicked the first 3 books of the series and started reading them straightaway. ...more

Kate is a gritty, smart woman with a lot on her plate. Her plate just got a lot bigger. Nick is just the man to help her succeed in a career dominated by men but also the distraction she can't afford to have. Nick was a fun character. He was just cocky enough to aggravate and sexy enough to fantasize about. Kate held her own against the consummate playboy. I received an ARC of Scoring Position in exchange for an honest review. V.K. Sykes is a combination of sexy, smart and entertaining that alwa ...more

One of the best in this great sports series!

Five stars for another great addition to this sports series. All the books in this series leave you wanting more. Football or baseball they are good sports romances. Can 't wait to see what the next will be. You couldn't ask for better writing from this team.

Although this is book 6 of the series, it is the first I've read of the Philadephia Patriots and I had no issues with understanding the characters from previous stories. However, I plan to read more of the series after meeting Nick and Kate.

Nick and Kate's relationship moves slowly, but realistically from star catcher and agent to friends and lovers.

A fun and relaxing read.
