Book Summary: This is a collection of poems all about sports.
Bookshelf Genre: Poetry
Characteristics that support the genre: The poems in this book as rhythmic and sound.
Bookshelf Mentor Writing Traits: Presentation: The pictures that accompany each poem show the reader what each poet is writing about. These pictures help the readers visualize the poems.
Classroom Integration: A lot of young boys like to play sports. I think this would be a good book to include in a poetry unit for these students to see that you can incorporate your love of sports into their poetry. Connecting the content to what they like will be important when trying to reach these young students.
This is a wonderful poetry book for young children who play sports or are sports fans. There are poems in this collection about baseball, soccer, track and field, ice skating, and basketball. After reading the poems, children could create a poem of their own about their favorite sport.
I chose this book because if fit the criteria of a poetry book. The book had a lot of poems in them and they were very entertaining. This is a very good book.
Great idea for a children's poetry anthology; subtly organized by the seasons; nice variety of sports included. I did not rate it more highly because I found the quality of the poems so uneven. Some are wonderful; others irritate my sense of meter, and even my sense of rhyme.
I like this book to use for different types of poetry. It would be good to appeal to the boys in the classroom as it shows that poetry can be written about sports as well! It covers many different types of sports like baseball, football, track, and more. It also has different types of poems.
Picked this poetry book for the boys I know I will have one day. The books cover all the sports. Some rhyme and some are silly. I really like the poems that focused on playing and not always winning.
