The Evaran Chronicles #2

The Fredorian Destiny

Rate this book
The timeline is wrong. This is discovered when Dr. Albert Snowden and his niece, Emily, travel with Evaran to a galactic cultural exhibition event on Kreagus, the capital home world of the Kreagan Star Empire and galactic superpower near Earth. The Fredorians should be presenting an ancient artifact, known as the Arkaron, to the Kreagan emperor. The problem is they aren’t. Evaran has decided to step in and help the Fredorians achieve their destiny while stabilizing the timeline.

They must find the three lost Arkaron crystals in order to assemble the Arkaron. To make matters worse, Seeros, a powerful industrialist, has a bounty on their heads, causing bounty hunters to harass them each step of the way.

As if that weren’t enough, an unknown faction is hiring freelance mercenaries to hunt them down as well. Evaran is joined by others, and together, they will have to navigate these perils to assemble the Arkaron and achieve the Fredorian destiny.

I have been dreaming about fictional worlds since I was a kid. I devoured anything related to fantasy and science fiction. I developed a setting over the last twenty years and struggled to find a medium I could express it in. Several years ago, I discovered I enjoyed writing. It is a passion of mine now, and exploring my setting with it has been an awesome journey.

I work in the information technology field and have my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in it. It has helped me to shape some of the concepts I write about. I also enjoy keeping up on futurology and science in general.

I live in central Ohio and enjoy walking, reading, gaming, learning, listening to music, and trying to keep up on my never-ending list of TV shows and movies to watch. If you want to contact me, you can do so on my website at

The 2nd of the Evaran Chronicles see Emily and Dr Snowden having been dropped at home for 3 months while Evaran was off doing other things. He returns to check on them, and Dr Snowden asks if they can travel with him, and Evaran says yes, happy to have some travelling companions, and someone to show the universe. We also learn that Jay has made a full recovery and is doing well.
Although these are called the Evaran Chronicles, the story is mainly told from the point of view of Dr Snowden, so it is Dr Snowden’s story of his time with Evaran. This gives the story an interesting perspective as Evaran is obviously incredibly advanced, with knowledge, technology and abilities beyond normal comprehension, and this way, we get to learn it from Dr Snowden’s viewpoint, as well as an easy way to explain it to the reader.
These stories are like a cross between Dr Who and Star Trek, there is that real feel of Evaran being similar to some sort of incredibly powerful being (such as the Time Lords), who has dominion over space and time. At the same time, there are these multiple ‘away’ missions, with that feel from Star Trek. It makes for a really easy read, with some fascinating scenarios. The really interesting thing in these stories is Hart’s description of the technology and the physics surrounding space and time, and the various concepts of travel related to these. Hart has done some fascinating research to bring these facets of her story to life, adding a new dimension to the story, and making it that much more enjoyable.
There are many features of ‘Chronicles’ that work to make it a wonderful read though, and another of these is the Characters. Hart’s characters are all incredibly well written, each with a different aspect that kind of fit together to make this piece of the puzzle – Dr Snowden is the curious one, and also the Father figure for Emily, Emily is the emotional gauge of the group, Evaran is the overall Guardian. It is a very interesting Dynamic, and each ‘Mission’ tends to see new additions to their group adding further aspects to it. This gives Hart an endless supply of character qualities and combinations to play with and makes for very interesting reading.
In the 2nd story, the main story (without breaking the Prime Directive – No Spoilers sorry), is that after Emily and Albert (Dr Snowden) decide to go for a trip, they find themselves entangled in a series of events in which they must help retrieve something, something that will help all of humanity. This leads to a slew of different missions throughout the galaxy and amazingly enough… Well you will have to read it to find out more. On top of that, there is a sinister plot unfolding in the background, someone wants Evaran, as well as Emily and Dr Snowden.
This is an awesome adventure story, very easy to read and a lot of fun.
If you are a fan of Dr Who, or like a good Sci-Fi adventure story, this is definitely for you.

The second book in the series reminded me of an old french comic strip that I use to read and love when I was a teenager: Valerian, Agent spacio-temporel (which roughly translate to Valerian, time and space agent). Everything about everyone and the whole series so far is kind like that old comic strip; an agent who travels in space and time to observe and to right some wrongs, while trying not to affect the timeline. The fun factor and sense of exploration is still very high in this second book, the author is expanding is world-building and the adventure is pure fun, but I liked it less than the first, probably more so because of my short attention span than anything to do with the story itself. The characters are evolving and being fleshed out, the action is constant and the time/space traveling is as fun and inventive as ever. I will read more of the series in the near future, but now I'm taking a break from it.

I really enjoy this series. It has that feel, a bit of Asimov or Arthur C Clarke.
Evaran visits Dr. Snowden and Emily back on Earth. He invites them to accompany him and asks where they would like to go. They go to Kreagus the home world of the Kreagan Empire. Evaran senses that the timeline is wrong which is the start of this great adventure. Evaran and the Snowden will help retrieve the Akaron. But traveling with Evaran is always a complete adventure and the races and places they travel to are always fantastic.

This was fun and fast moving book. There are lots of ideas that we have seen in other Sci-Fi books and films such as Dr Who, Star Trek and Star Wars in this book. But, hey that doesn't make this a bad book.
I really enjoyed it. The characters are interesting. We have the Dr Who'esque, Evaran with his Human side kicks Dr & Emily Snowden and a range of Alien life forms. I'm off to read the next book in the series now. The Purification.

This was far better for me than the previous title. The story had a better pace and the secondary characters had personality along with purpose. I am still disappointed with Dr. Snowden. I just don't get the depth for his character. I do wonder if some of this is from the intonation and voice the narrator (audiobook) has given him. Other voices were fair to decent fits for the characters. I am moving on into the 3rd book in hopes of more interesting adventures.

More like 2.5 stars. Story clips along at a nice pace which does prevent boredom. Always miraculously get out of tight spots so very little suspense. Author needs to learn more descriptions of behavior. Characters smirk, jerk their heads back and open their eyes wide. Good bedtime reading because it didn’t keep me awake.

Well written stand alone story

Once again Hart has delivered a well written story filled with a huge diversity of aliens and their planets. I know you will enjoy reading this book if you like Science Fiction.

This kept me up many hours past my bedtime!

Looks like I have a new favorite author! Great book, with a good storyline- makes me want to get abducted by aliens and rescued by Evaran. Maybe we're all in a simulation and don't even know it?

Total Score: 5/5

Summary:
After allowing Dr. Snowden and Emily to choose their next adventure, the team find themselves at a galactic exhibition where Evaran quickly figures out the timeline has been altered. For centuries, humans were kidnapped and used as slaves until finally released and sent to a new world to colonize calling themselves Fredorians. Evaran, Dr Snowden, and Emily along with the Fredorian ambassador Andria, Inspector Silva and Ranger Rakar (two members of the Kreagan world) embark on a mission to find the Arkaron crystals important artifacts of the Kreagan people that have been missing since they were told to escape their world by their god the Great Selector. Along the way they meet many different species and encounter unexpected and challenges. Seeros, an old enemy of Evaran's, sets into motion a plan to finally enact his revenge against Evaran that threatens everyone involved.

This is a fast paced intricate sci-fi story that draws the reader into the characters lives. This is an incredible Sci-Fi series and I for one can't wait to read The Purification the next book in The Evaran series.

Even though I didn’t read the first book, there is a short recap of what has already taken place.

Aliens, time travel, a robot, the mysterious Evaran and a galaxy full of other sentient creatures.

This is more of a fun sci-fi book. Entertaining. Enjoyable. Nothing too gruesome. While on a mission to find the crystals for the Fredorians to give to the Kreagan Emperor numerous adventures in different time periods unfold. The time travel always a tricky thing. Someone's past being your future. Or going back in time to right a wrong that has not occurred yet. Think of all the possibilities.

I really like the fact that the names of the species, planets etc. were thought out, not just something that sounds ridiculous. Such as "unobtaianium" from Avitar.

While the story kept me interested and listening, it reminded me of Dr. Who.

Michael Pauley did a great job narrating. Different voices for each character, clear pronunciation, nice pleasant voice is easy to listen to. He really made the characters come alive.

The Fredorian Destiny by Adair Hart is another great sci-fi/fantasy novel, second in the series but can be read as a stand alone. This continues from where Evaran (alien that saved them in book one) comes back to talk to Dr Snowden and Emily and takes them again on a trip. This trip they end up on a mission to find the crystals. Of course they are not without trouble along the way, bounty hunters, creatures, elements of all kinds. This book, like the first, still has the crazy and imaginative wonder of new worlds, time travel, weird adventures, crazy twists, turns, creatures, and plot. The characters have stayed true from last book. The may be a little less fight scenes and a bit more sleuthing from the last book but not much. Although I do enjoy his fight scenes with the crazy creatures and strange weapons they have. Never dull. Enjoyed it as I did the first book! Don't wait to start this series, it is a hoot!
I received this book for a honest review and it in no way effects my rating or content.

I really enjoyed this listen. Adair Hart creates a rich, full, complex universe that gives full voice to the ancient astronaut theory! Earth is a protected planet but not all alien species obey the law.

Evaran is a time traveler who is working to correct the timeline of a set of earthlings that he rescued from a rogue race of aliens in a different book (which I am going to buy because I enjoyed this one so much!) The travelers visit new places and discover a human destiny that only Evaran can help them achieve. Except they will have to maneuver through time to confront conspiracies, political moves, and one alien who is determined to get even with Evaran for the loss of his family at all costs! Through it all, they care for and protect one another as fully as they are able and discover new companions who they come to love as well.

I hope there is more to come so I can discover who Evaran is and where he comes from.

I received this audiobook for free from Audiobook Boom! in exchange for an honest review.

Tom and Huck Cruise the Cosmos

Instead of the Mississippi River, our crew of adventurers sail through space setting right the wrongs of evil-doers. Intelligently written with a wide cast of characters both good and not so good. Loads of technological twists keeps the action barreling from start to finish. I enjoyed this series and look forward to more.
