It is a sad day for me....Knowing that I have finished the final book in the Westmoreland series. I absolutely loveeeeee the Westmorelands and author Brenda Jackson has done a phenomenal job in keeping this series fresh, hot and invigorating. Thank God for re-reads YESSSS!!!!!

I don't know who wasn't waiting for Bane's Book...We all waited with bated breath when we first got a glimpse of Brisbane aka Bane from Big Brother Dillon's book "Westmoreland's Way". Bane and Crystal young and madly in love were separated and years later reunited and a two different people now, is the deep love still there with them?

Bane Westmoreland knew he had to make something out of himself and prove to his family he is somebody and he is worthy. Causing all kinds of trouble with his 3 other cousins when they were younger, Bane fell in love with a girl everyone else deemed invisible but not to him. All bets were off when they were younger and they ran off together but once caught, repercussions came about. Dillon believed in Bane but he had to believe in himself, so after watching the love of his life Crystal Newsome being sent away from him, Bane joined the Navy, depressed and angry but determined to become a better man for Crystal, his family and himself.

Five years have passed and Bane and his team is on an extended leave from the Military. Bane is a Navy Seal, he has come home to celebrate Thanksgiving with his family and to see his cousin finally fall in love and meet her fiance. But big brother Dillon has eyes like a hawk, so he summons Bane into his office to talk and what Bane reveals to his brother knocks him out and I know every reader as well LOLLL!!! Bane has Dillon's blessings to go after the woman he still loves wholeheartedly.

Bane shows up at Crystal's house waiting for her, five years is a long time with no contact but nevertheless he is determined to reclaim her as his own because that is how the "Westmoreland Men" do it. But when Crystal shows up, Bane notices something is off with her of course he can't help to notice just how beautiful she is, to him she is even more beautiful than he remembers. But this Crystal is afraid, fearful and Bane's protective instincts kicks in. When he knocks on her door and she opens it to see the only man she has ever loved standing on the other side, Crystal is relieved but afraid at the same time. Does Bane still love her? Does he no longer want to be with her? Did Bane ache for her the way she has for the past five years? So many questions but what Crystal should have known is this, once Bane makes a claim there is no going back Woot! Woot!

Now that Bane is back in Crystal's life, he gets another revelation and that is, her life is in danger because of what she and her colleagues have been working on. Bane is determined to protect her with his life but you better know this, one thing about those Westmorelands is nobody faces danger alone, they are all in it together. To see the other Westmorelands come in, was great to see (makes me want to pull out my books and re-read them all over again). And now that the Outlaws (Westmorelands) have joined in, the enemies who have so foolishly targeted Crystal, will understand what Westmoreland Justice really looks like and mean.

It is so sad to see an incredible series come to an end but we do have our books which we can re-read over and over and over again. But Ohhhhh what an ending Woot! Woot!

Well Until My Next Review Ciao Bellas!

Review Copy from the Publisher

Bane is the 31st and last volume of the Westmorland series by Brenda Jackson. After 13 years, Brenda has decided to (almost) put an end to this long series which made her success in the USA but also here in France. And we can say she ends it on a high note!

Bane and Crystal, that’s a long-standing story that all the fans have known since 8 or 9 volumes I’d say, and we were all waiting for its conclusion. Bane and Crystal met when she was 15 and him 19. They fell madly in love, to the point where nothing else was really important for them. And to the point their respective families ended up separating them. Crystal left her home town and Bane enlisted in the army.
Our heroes meet again five years after this separation. They both have succeeded in their career: she in research, he by becoming a Navy SEAL. The big question is to know what the author will concoct for this reunion.

I can say I wasn’t disappointed. First, in the end of the previous volume, Breaking Bailey’s rules (review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... ), we learn a completely unexpected element about Bane and Crystal. I admit, I couldn’t believe it myself. LOL. Secondly, when our heroes meet again, Crystal is afraid for her security, and with reasons, so Bane will have to protect her by any means available. And last, I liked how the author makes her story evolve, with doubts, a sexual attraction always present, emotion because we learn more things, and finally a reconciliation we can believe. And when we finish this novel, we can only thank Brenda Jackson for giving us such a fabulous story to end the series.

We see again a lot of previous heroes and we see with big pleasure the members of the next family who will be the new series by the author. But for now, there’s no release date for the first volume. Never mind, Benda Jackson has still a lot of novels to offer to her readers.

Conclusion: Bane must be read absolutely. And for the readers who didn’t want to start the series because it’s too long, now that it’s finished, you can go ahead. Especially as the author has published for now 5 box sets with several volumes of the series. At least in English. In French, it’s another story. But the idea is to be retained…

After five years of being away from home Bane is determined to find his wife Crystal. When he finds her he is in for a shock but five years hasn't changed his feelings for her at all. He is determined to show her how much he loves her and he knows deep down inside she still loves him. I thought this was a good read and I am looking forward to reading more.

Bane was my first Harlequin romance so I'm not sure if some of the things that bothered me about this book are due to a lack of context for the stories typically published by Harlequin and/or the fact that I haven't read any of the other Westmorelands books.

I enjoyed Bane for the first 15-20%. The premise, albeit a bit hard to believe, was entertaining and I was looking forward to a romance with a good bit of action. Crystal and Bane had an interesting backstory as childhood sweethearts who hadn't seen each other in five years. Things seemed like they were going well...until they weren't.

For a book under 200 pages, I couldn't believe how repetitive Bane was. The plot seemed to be the same thing over and over until a shockingly short conclusion that left me more than a bit confused. The book switches between Bane and Crystal's third-person POVs, which should have helped me get to know the characters better but instead each person kept repeating the same things over and over. They loved each other, felt like they didn't know the other person anymore, were still attracted to the other blah blah blah. It got the point where I started skimming over these internal dialogues since no new information was ever added. I wanted more from both Crystal and Bane as characters in order to really be able to root for their rekindled romance. Also for a plot that includes a kidnapping threat, I would love more action than just our characters going from hotel room to hotel room.

I received a free copy of this book at RT17.

Bane and Crystal were sweethearts when Crystal was in high school (Bane is four years older). On her 18th birthday they eloped, but were tracked down by the town sheriff. Crystal was immediately shipped off to an aunt and they never told anyone they were married. Bane decides on his own that Crystal needs to grow into her potential and because he feels he can see into the future that she won't if they stay together, he joins the Navy. Bane also feels that he needs to become a better man for her. Five years pass and now he's a SEAL and has come back for her. I'm still not clear on the reason, but during those five years he never contacted Crystal. He wrote letters, but never sent them. Meanwhile, Crystal feels abandoned since she has been. Some baddies are after her because she's a biochemist and is working on a formula to make things invisible.

I am absolutely not a fan of heroes that make life changing decisions for the heroines without their consent. I know this isn't a problem for most people, but it is for me.

The thing that bothered me the most was

I liked the dialog, but found the sex scenes boring and repetitious so I ended up skimming them. Since this is book #31 there are a lot of characters from previous books and I gave up trying to remember who was who.

Bane was a huge disappointment. I have been looking forward to this book coming out because I absolutely loved the character as he was described in other books in the Westmoreland series. After reading this book, I actually was surprised at how short it was and after finishing felt I read a book about nothing. The storyline although maybe good in concept just didn’t transfer to the page. At times I found myself even bored with the scenes as Bane and Crystal were on the run.

I really expected there would be more conflict in the end with the people who were after Crystal. I kept thinking they would catch her or kidnap her while he was in the shower at the hotel or something but there was no attempt made to do anything until the very end and even that was expected. The whole confrontation at the cabin fell short in my opinion because the criminals were apprehended too quickly.

There just was no action and never a chance for Bane to really live up to being the bad ass tough guy readers were anticipating. All of the action that did take place happened outside of the main characters being involved besides the cabin scene so the threat didn’t appear as chilling. It felt like Bane and Crystal went on a joyride to get reacquainted had a family reunion and ended with a happily ever after. There wasn’t enough conflict to make the storyline interesting enough and before you know it the book is over which is a sad way to end the series.

Bane and Crystal fell in love at the rebellious young adult years, and were obsessed with each other's company, to the point that their families felt the need to separate them. But on Crystal's 18th birthday, Bane and Crystal got secretly married, promising they would hold on to their love and commitment, until they could be together again.
Five years later, with no communication between them than one phone call early on, Bane is ready to build a life together with Crystal. His SEAL career is going well, and he feels like he has something to offer to Crystal, a focused, mature man, with future goals.
Crystal had lost hope that Bane would ever come to find her, as the years went by. In Bane's absence, Crystal sets her focus on school, and is ready to get her PhD in just a few short months. Even though there seems to be some trouble, and odd interest, in the research she is conducting for her PhD, that has scared Crystal. She is ready to go hiding from the trouble, when out of the blue, after five years, Bane shows up at her doorsteps, ready to be her husband.
I liked that Bane and Crystal didn't immediately fall into each other's arms, at least permanently. Five years without communication is a long time, and especially with age and situation they had been, people change. They got to know each other again, filled the gap in between the years of separation, and worked on the hurt and pain the separation had cost them.
The threat Crystal's research has cost, comes to knocking as well, and soon they are fleeing across the States, escaping the menace, with the help of Bane's connections. The fear and danger intensify their feelings, and brings them closer together, opening up a highway directly to each other's hearts.
A great and entertaining mix a bittersweet, steamy, second chance romance, danger and action, and family's support. Lots of romance and passionate moments as Bane and Crystal get acquainted again, while on the run.

Wow, I have been waiting fir this book since the Denver Westmoreland series began. Bane did not disappoint. I can't imagine what it felt like to see my wife for the 1st time in 5 years. Crystal had made a good life for herself. She became a brilliant scientist and was on the eve of her PHD. She has been violated and warned at her job. Bane knows he has to find her, he appears and Crystal doesn't know what to make of him or her situation.
Bane is determined to not leave her side. There lives now become one big adventure. Bane's SEAL mates help along the way.

However, my heart was overjoyed as I watched the chemistry between the two surface. The things that they had kept for each other were awesome. I am a diehard believer in love and these two display why the wait was long but so worth it. Each have achieved so much and have so much to do and I hope as readers we see more of them. They are a super hot couple.
This book was written with so much love within each page..I loved it...Thank you Mrs Jackson for the journey of Bane and Crystal.

Bane…sigh! I’ve been waiting so long for this bad boy’s story and as soon as it released I dropped whatever I was doing and devoured this book.

In this story, Bane is coming home to claim what belongs to him…his wife. Oh yes, if you’ve read Bailey’s story then you know that Bane let the cat out of the bag and told his family that he and Crystal married years ago.

Bane and Crystal are not the same kids they were when they fell in love. Time doesn’t change how much they love each other. The love they share is still strong and the attraction is still at all-time high. But when someone is after Crystal, can Bane get to her in time and keep her safe?

If you’re familiar with this series, then you know the answer to that already. Those Westmoreland's don’t mess around. They’re fierce when it comes to their women and their loving. Oh, how I envy those wives….
Brenda Jackson continues to shine and continues to be one of my favorite authors. Looking forward to more books by her.

Another great addition to this family saga, and another winner for one of my favorite authors. A lost soul, a missing love, fears and insecurities that keep this Navy SEAL wondering if he has lost his chance for a future with the woman he seeks. Excellent story, great writing, and just a terrific read all round.

Wow! This book had everything good: romance; suspense; corporate espionage; kidnappings; rekindled love and an awesome family reunion! It's been five years since Bane and Crystal have seen or talked to one another. Will true love resolve their problems or is it way too late for them?

Nice read from Ms.Jackson!

I listened to the audiobook during my work hours to stave off the boredom. Bane is a departure from the usual books by this author. Think BJ was tired of just contemporary and tried her hand at romantic suspense. At first, the suspense seemed odd for a Desire novel, but it certainly kept the character's reunion lively.

Bane and Crystal were a nice couple who made their way back to each other after five years separated. I've read quite a few BJ books this year and I think one has the hottest sex scenes! These two made up for the lost time. A lot.

I love how protective Bane was of Crystal! I wish BJ heroes were real!

Fantastic book. Bane is the last of the Denver Westmorelands to remain unmarried - or so everyone thinks. But during a visit home at the end of the previous book, Breaking Bailey's Rules, Bane drops the bombshell that he and high school girlfriend have been married for the last five years, and that he's ready to win her back.

Five years earlier Bane and Crystal had been deeply in love and determined to be together. But thanks to an old family feud, Crystal's parents were against the relationship. It didn't help that Bane was one of the family troublemakers. So they eloped, and no one knew that they had actually gotten married before they were caught and brought back home. With Crystal sent away, Bane realized that if he wants to give her the life she deserves, he's going to have to make something of himself. So he joined the navy, eventually becoming a SEAL. Now it's time to reclaim her.

You know that after five years of absolutely no contact, the reunion isn't going to go smoothly. Crystal is stunned to see Bane, and almost certain that he's just there to put an end to their marriage. She's still mad at him for disappearing for so long. But she has bigger things on her mind right now. The work she's been doing as a chemist has put her in danger, and she's about to go on the run.

This is where things get more complicated. Crystal is in danger and Bane's protective instincts are aroused. No longer the impulsive hothead he used to be, his trained mind immediately takes steps to get Crystal to safety. She's not sure what to make of the new Bane, but she's grateful to have him on her side. Bane's cool head, along with help from his fellow SEALs and his family, have them neatly avoiding the bad guys sent after them. The final confrontation was intense, and I loved how it all went down.

At the same time all of this is going on, Bane and Crystal are attempting to rebuild their relationship. I loved the realism of Crystal's hurt and anger over how long it took Bane to come back for her. It was easy to see that the attraction is still strong, and their feelings are still there. But both have changed a lot from their teenaged selves and they have to get to know each other again. I loved Bane's patience and how he showed her how he felt without pushing. There is also a deep vein of romanticism in him that is demonstrated by the letters he wrote and saved during the time he was gone. As they shared their feelings from the years they were apart, their love for each other became even stronger. I loved the ending and seeing Crystal confident enough in their love to handle his work as a SEAL. The Christmas Eve scene was great.

As always, the Westmoreland books have the theme of the importance of family. Though sometimes resentful of their interference when he was younger, Bane could always count on his family to be there for him. I loved seeing characters from the other branches of the family, as they came together to help. There was also more contact with the newly discovered branch, the Outlaws of Alaska. I'm really looking forward to reading their stories.

I only had a few minor quibbles with the book, which did not affect my enjoyment of the story too much. First, in the many mentions of Bane attending the Naval Academy, it was not properly capitalized. It is a proper name and should be. Second, the author also gave the impression that it was almost a training school for SEALs, as she said that when his shooting ability was discovered, strings were pulled to get him into the Academy. The Naval Academy is a four year college that educates men and women to be officers in the Navy and Marine Corps. SEAL training is done in Coronado, California. If Bane was nineteen at the time he joined the Navy, even if they sent him to the Academy immediately, it would have been four years until he graduated. Even if he was sent immediately to SEAL school, SEAL training takes another year. That takes care of the five years they were apart, without Bane ever going on a mission. It would have been better to leave the Academy out of the story entirely, and have him sent to SEAL school out of boot camp. Most people wouldn't know these details, so it wouldn't bother them, but it is an irritation to those that do.

REVIEW:   BANE (THE WESTMORELANDS) BY BRENDA JACKSON

Bane by Brenda JacksonMy rating: 3.75 of 5 starsFrom the minute I read the first Denver Westmorelands story, I knew I just had to read Bane and Crystal's journey back to each other. Through ever book since Dillon's (YES I OWN THEM ALL) I have tried sometimes in vain to find out little snippets of what was going on with this couple. So imagine how overjoyed I was to discover that their love story was on it's way. Crystal and Bane's reunion was one of surprises, thrills, love and a visit with past familiar faces. I am sad to see the end of another Westmoreland series but who knows what the future holds. I received an ARC of bane in exchange for an honest review. A good end to a wonderful series. Wow! Brisbane "Bane" Westmoreland has finally arrived and boy did he arrive. As a faithful reader of all things Brenda Jackson I have been waiting for the "Badass" Bane story. Thank you Harlequin for allowing me to read and review this book.
Not to give any spoilers I was not disappointed by the story of Bane and Crystal Newsome who have been sweethearts since high school and have been apart for 5 years. As Dillion, the older brother to Bane tells him, first love doesn't always last,. That may be true for anyone else but when you have a man like Bane who is your first everything separation of time may bury the flames but stir the coals and the fire is still there.
Bane and Crystal are adults now and must deal with each other on that level and the journey is very real and enlightening. Will we still feel the same, have you been faithful to me, my body has changed, how to we pick up and start again,. Mrs. Jackson does not disappointed with the passion between these two and the drama that has invaded Crystal's profession life. This allows us to see what those 5 years in the military have trained Bane for and introduce us to more great characters and bring back some old favorites.
I would recommend this book to all because it can be read as a standalone with no cliffhangers, but do your reading self the pleasure of discovering the all Westmorelands.

Brisbane Westmoreland has spent five years in the Navy and is now a SEAL. He feels he is ready to return and reclaim his woman. He tracks her down in Dallas and goes to find her. But when he arrives, He finds Crystal Newsome is not as eager for a reunion as he is.. Crystal is not happy that Bane told her he loves her but then never came for her. Now she is a biochemist working towards her PhD. Her research has drawn the attention and some are willing to do whatever is necessary to get that research. Bane is determined to keep her safe and has the resources to do that. He also wants to convince her that they have a second chance.

Brenda Jackson once again leaves us breathless with the shear romance of Bane. Bane is the youngest and will not be outdone by his brothers and cousins in the romance department. Crystal is not so determined to fall into the role of long lost love. She felt deserted. Bane had his work cut out for him. But neither a Navy SEAL nor a Westmoreland could be deterred form his goal. Read Bane by Brenda Jackson and be prepared to be once again left with a sigh and a smile.

This is the first book I have read by this author, so that would make this the first on I have read in this long time running series. Bane is the 31st book in the series. I haven't read any of the other Westmoreland books, but I will say I am intrigued. Bane is the last of the Westmoreland clan and has come home to finally claim the woman he loves. Now that he has made a good life for himself, he feels ready to start their life. It's been 5 years and Crystal is reluctant, but she is also in danger and needs Bane to keep her safe.

I thought this did a fairly good job of holding up as a stand alone. If I ignored all of the references to the other family members, it was a great second chance romance that had me rooting for the couple. The problem with coming into a long running series like this one is that there is just so much back history to the family that the author can't really catch the reader up on in under 300 pages. So, that was a down side of reading this as my first one. However, as a romantic suspense I enjoyed it. It was a quick read and worth checking out.

Joy and pain describes waiting on Bane's story. You knew it would be good but you had to wait until Bane was ready to make his debut. Now the bad boy is home and he's here for his woman. It doesn't get any better...young love, uncertain feelings, mystery, danger, suspense and a family willing to go to wall for you! Crystal is reluctant and hesitant with Bane because they've been separated so long while all Bane can think about is claiming her and rekindling the love and passion they shared. When danger threatens Crystal the SEAL in Bane takes center stage. Actions really do speak louder than words. Finding your way back to each and finding that your love is stronger than ever keeps you captivated in this romance. Reading a Brenda Jackson novel can take you anywhere, you can become the hero or shero, be a family member putting in your two cents or just look in from the outside and enjoy the ride.

I waited so long for Bane's story and was not disappointed. Bane and Crystal have loved each other from the day they meet and defied anyone that tried to keep them away from each other but against the wishes of their families they went and eloped without anyone knowing. Crystals Dad sends her away to live with an Aunt and Bane is devastated but his brother Dillon convinces him to go make something of himself and let Crystal grow up and finish school, he decides that is the best but promises Crystal that he will return for her when he has made something of himself. Now 5 years later and Crystal is still waiting for Bane to return and is now doubting if he will or not till he shows up on her door step on the worst day of her life. This book is the finale for the Denver Westmorelands but I am hoping we will get more on the Alaska Outlaws aka Westmorelands. I just love each and every book series you have written Brenda (that I have read so far) and want more!!
