Dramatically illuminated by a series of fine art paintings, Alister McGrath's new volume seeks to engage both the mind and the imagination as he explores the great and extraordinary 'Christ is risen!' Poetry, prayer, and theological reflection are interwoven with commentary on the ideas conveyed through works such as Maurice Denis's Holy Women at the Tomb, He Qi's On the Road to Emmaus, Guercino's Incredulity of St. Thomas, and William Blake's River of Life. The result not only increases our understanding of the vital connection between the resurrection of the Son of God and the transformation of human existence, but also helps us to trust in the security of Christ's grasp on our lives, as he daily sustains us by his love and power.
Alister Edgar McGrath is a Northern Irish theologian, priest, intellectual historian, scientist, and Christian apologist. He is an Anglican priest and is ordained within the Church of England.
Aside from being a faculty member at Oxford, McGrath has also taught at Cambridge University and is a Teaching Fellow at Regent College. Good book on the resurrection. The art was good and I found some good nuggets in here. I will be using part of it in my Easter Sunday sermon. Recommended
This is a beautiful little book that combines the thoughtful writing of a world-class scholar and glorious images of paintings of the resurrection. This book is a great meditation on the meaning of the resurrection of Jesus and a wonderful way to prepare for Easter.
