12/26/2018 ~ LEGO Brick DK reader introducing the bios of several NEXO Knights. One knight is female. DK is intentionally pulling telling a story with several genres (in an attempt to meet Common Core Standards. This attempt has mixed success, interrupting whatever flow the story might have had.

Maddie read this to me and we both found the characters pretty funny.

My 5-year-old sees these books at the library and says, "Whoa, that book is so cool I can't stand it!" I look at them and think, "Really? All of the books here and this is the one you want to read?" But I get it, the cover is very appealing. My son doesn't actually even know all that much about the Nexo Knights, but that didn't stop us from reading this book at bedtime. Each knight is introduced, along with their "Fortrex" (which my son was just thrilled about). Despite my feeling that these aren't exactly quality children's literature, considering how drawn my son is to them I do think they must be appealing to reluctant readers as well.

ETA 2019: S still knows almost nothing about the Nexo Knights but he had a gift certificate to spend at a book store today and was very excited to find this book. We now own a copy. The good news is that he can read this to himself now. He still just loves these kinds of books so much.
