This is a super useful book to help you wrap your head around the overwhelming project of writing a book. The lists are insightful and the advice for organizing your writing project is clear and easy to follow. This made me want to find a coffee shop and write!

Absolutely amazing and helpful resource for writers or aspiring writers! This book is chock full of great resources and charts to help brainstorm, outline, plot, and research your future novel. I especially love the character charts where you can fill in your characters' details. Very helpful, especially for busy writers. I have my own copy, but also purchased one to use as a giveaway for my English students, who were thrilled that something "so cool" was up for grabs. They were all disappointed ...more

For Lemon Drop Literary

Robin Woods has composed another workbook sure to prompt a few excellent novels from writers!

I had the pleasure of reviewing Prompt Me Again! And gladly accepted Robin’s invitation to examine another of her workbooks for writers.

Prompt Me Novel is the sixth installment in her Prompt Me Series. She created the series for beginner and veteran writers serious about improving their technique. Through carefully thought out and scaffolded activities, writers will lay a solid f

I love this book! I am an English teacher, and at points during the year, I have my students engage in narrative writing. This year, for a culminating assignment for my Junior students, I was getting stuck on how to move them from concept, to outline, to draft. This book had the information I needed to guide me from one step to the next so that I could teach my students how to go from brainstorm to publishing. And I got some of the best short narratives any of my students have ever produced!

As a writer and a high school English teacher, I would highly recommend this book to both my friends and my students. I find that many writing workbooks speak down to you, telling you what you need to do and how your writing process should be; sometimes that can make you feel a bit overwhelmed or as if you are failing by not doing all of those things. This book is more like a friend or mentor giving you ideas and guidance. I would recommend it to people who want to write, but don’t have the time ...more

As someone who aspires constantly to improve in her writing, I have taken a number of creative writing classes. On top of that, I have read several books and articles on writing. I am so happy to say that this book stands with the best of them. The workbook helped me the most with my organization. As someone who so often loses focus of her characters or might happen to forget a plot point, I loved having places to write my notes and ideas. Along with containing just about every element you'll ne ...more

I received this book as a gift and have truly enjoyed looking through it. It has so much useful information about plot outlining, tips on dialogue and coming up with believable characters. My favorite is the reference section which has all kinds of lists that include synonyms, symbolism, and clichés to avoid. There are also plenty of charts and blank lined pages for you to write down all your ideas. I would recommend this journal and workbook to anyone who loves to write fiction, whether you're ...more

I received this as one of my Christmas presents, and it is really helpful! There are sections on character development, setting, emotions, points of view, etc, each one with questions, charts, and examples from classic authors like Harper Lee, Edgar Allen Poe, Franz Kafka, and Ernest Hemingway. Woods draws from her own experience as a writer to offer helpful things like synonyms for common words, acronyms in the publishing world, and tips about marketing on social media. I highly recommend this ...more

As a young writer, I've been looking for a book like this to help me brainstorm and outline my ideas for my book. Personally, this has been beyond useful with the charts it has, especially the character one. The plot archetypes also help me see the main genre of what I'm writing. I've only had the book for less than a week and I've made twice the progress I did before in outlining my book. This is definitely a resource I think every writer should have in their bookshelf.
