DRAGON FEVER is a novella set in the Dark Kings would. If you haven’t read this series yet, I would suggest starting from the beginning. Since this book takes place quite deeper into the timeline already, I think new readers would be lost and probably wouldn’t appreciate the story than someone who has read from the beginning.

That being said, DRAGON FEVER explores some of the consequences of the events in the series so far. So far the Dark Kings have managed to stay relatively hidden but that has become increasingly difficult as the books continue. Now a journalist by the name of Rachel Marek is interested in getting the truth and will do nothing to get it. So she seduces Asher who is a Dragon King. However, what she doesn’t know is that Asher knows who she is and is also playing a game with her.

Since this is a novella, things do move at a very quick pace, which I think was a downfall for this story. Because we know that Rachel is a journalist and is seeking answers, I found that I didn’t really trust her very much.

I felt much more connected to Asher. He has an old soul and was very easy to like. But because we know things that Asher doesn’t, Rae’s tricks kind of hindered the romance a bit. I didn’t quite believe it than if she wasn’t a journalist and trying to fool Asher. In the end, however, I do think that Grant does a good job of solidifying their romance.

Great!

I love Donna Grant’s dragons. I read her 10th book, Firestorm, and they just keep getting better and better. And this one is no different. I loved Asher and Rachel. She was all set to get all the dirt on him that she could find and then splash it all over the newspaper, but once she heard his story she changed her tune.

Of course, Ulrik is being his usual asshole self. I love that, too. LOL… And I loved Ms. Blossom Engel, too. She was Asher’s assistant and was very protective of him, as well as Con and Dreagan.

Rachel did have a TSTL moment when she got a not leading her to a bad part of Paris and a deserted warehouse. Thinking the message was from Asher she sent the taxi away and went into the warehouse alone. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I can see that happening in a book where the phone hadn’t been invented yet but in this case why doesn’t she just call him and say, “what the hell do you want me to meet you here for?” Yeah, that was stupid. But without that it was still a great short story. She was hurt a little before Asher saved her, and took her back to Dreagan to be his mate.

We did spend a few minutes with Con at the end, and all his worries. I always like to spend time with Con. However, there was no Rhi at all in this novella and I hated that. I love all the different stories about the Kings, the Light and Dark Fae and now the Reapers, but I always love, love, love to read about Rhi. So, I missed her in this story.

There was explicit sex in this and the F-bomb was used 7 times.

As to the narration: I keep complaining about Antony Ferguson but I give in and listen to him again and sometimes he’s better than other times. The women sounded ok but he just can’t seem to give the females an ounce of emotions, never laughs, yells, whispers, groans, nothing. And that’s a bummer. I guess I have to just learn to accept that, huh?

If you thought that a Dark Kings novella would pack any less of a
literary punch than that of the full length novels that readers have come to know and love.
You are in for quite the drama filled surprise with Dragon Fever.

Spotlighting Jade Dragon King, Asher.
Dragon Fever takes up right where Smoke And Fire left off.
With Ulrik seeming to gain both power and influence at every turn,
and the destruction of the Dragon Kings his only goal.
Con, Dreagan, the united Dragon Kings, and all the world face more peril than
ever.
It has become imperative that Ulrik be stopped...
NOW!

Rachel Marek is a woman with a nose for news,
and armed with information from a mysterious source;
she is bound and determined to get to the truth behind the rumors that
dragons really do exist.
Even if she has to get close to a Dragon King to do it.

What Rachel has no way of knowing however,
is that both dragons and Dragon Kings are very real.
And by the time that all is said and done,
she will have given her heart to one, and
been betrayed by another.

Though this is a short read, and offered as part of the 1001 Dark Nights collection,
it is chock full of "not to be missed" plot twists involving our favorite "bad dragon".
There is also a very unexpected change of scenery.
That's right!
We get to go to Paris!
Oh la la!
There is also a very special nod to Dreagan Scotch.

If you are looking for a sexy, secret filled, speed demon of a supe read.
Make sure you catch Dragon Fever!

Dragon Fever was another okay novella. In it, you will meet Asher and Rachel. They were okay characters but Rachel was just not my favorite person. I wanted to like her but she wasn't really trustworthy. Then there's Asher, who was a lot more likable. I was intrigued to see how things were going to play out since Asher knew things that Rachel wasn't saying. Other than all of that, the romance we meh and I just mostly bored with the whole thing.

I’m always intrigued by humanities need to uncover the truth about anything other worldly; they act as if it is their right to know all secrets, exposing the truth for the good of mankind. But here’s the thing, the means to which humans work to unearth the ‘truth’ is both underhanded and manipulative and usually is done for the wrong reasons or for altruistic ones that can’t truly be reached.

It’s interesting to see Rachel/Rae work her ruse on Asher King - one of the Dragon Kings - because for someone who always seeks the truth in a way that doesn’t compromise her personal integrity, she did not anticipate how Asher would make her feel and make her burn for a chance to be with him and by throwing her off balance, Rachel realizes that the truth isn’t always black and white and sometimes, exposing lies, corruption, and evil actually leads to a path of regrets and unanswered questions, forcing lines to be crossed and perspectives changed.

Asher is quite the sexy alpha dragon and the way he feels drawn to Rae is not something that has happened to him, which confirms what dragon kings before him have spoke of, and while it’s not something he would have considered before, now, he’s desperate to claim Rachel as his own.

In some ways, Rachel is simply a pawn in the war against the Dragon Kings and while it’s unclear exactly what the feud is over, which is probably partially due to my unfamiliarity with the series, the world Grant creates as well as the dark and light other worldly beings are quite an interesting lot and make me want to go back and read the rest of the series to truly understand all the players involved and what their end games might be.

I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure if I saw a dragon fer realz, I would set a new land speed record for getting the hell outta there.

Journalist Rachel Marek wants to expose the existence of dragons to the world and show them for the monsters they are, so when a tip takes her to the World Whisky Consortium, she knows this is her big break. Dragon King Asher wants desperately not to be at WWC, but his luck is looking up when he meets Rachel. With his schedule back to back, he and Rachel spend as much time together as possible, but neither of them expects the sheer shot of rightness that comes with it. With both of them harboring secrets, and with a dangerous man set on revenge, will their new relationship stand a chance?

DRAGON FEVER is book 9.5 in the Dark Kings series, and also a stand-alone addition to the innovative and fun 1001 Dark Nights series featuring sensual and erotic stories by a variety of popular authors inspired by the classic The Arabian Nights tale.

It took me a bit of time to get into this short novella, I just didn't feel any sort of connection with either of the MC's. Rachel was kind of a bitch, I'm not sure why she was so determined to out the dragons and expose them so they could be eradicated. And for a respected journalist, she was suspiciously lacking in common sense and the ability to consider all sides of a story. Asher was fine, just not really a super compelling character in and of himself. Together the two didn't do much for me, even the sex scenes were ho-hum. The characters lacked that spark of chemistry needed to compel me to swipe my ereader screen furiously, and it wound up taking me about 3 times longer to read than it should have since the book couldn't hold my attention.

Bottom Line: Fans of the Dark Kings series will no doubt enjoy Asher and Rachel's story. - See more at: http://www.theromancereviews.com/view...

I continue to be impressed that this author can make each of the books in this series unique in some way. And it doesn't seem to matter that this is a novella, it had it's own flare and I just continue to devour them.

For the first time, we have a women trying to find out the dirt on the Kings. She's trying to trick Asher. Good luck with that. But it creates a new dimension to their story. When will he find out? How far is she willing to go to get her story? And can Asher ever forgive her if she tells the world? It was a gem among a series I'm loving and devouring.

The dynamics between these two are fun. She's on the offensive and she's strong. He's trying to survive something he doesn't want to do. They're both brilliant but no one can deny the heat between them. So the last thing to figure out will be if she tells before or after she falls for him? Or is there more truth she needs to learn about these Kings?

It was a great little story that I really enjoyed.

Are you on this dragon bandwagon? You should be. It's a great series.

i haven't actually read many shifter books and and this was my first Dragon one and it's safe to say that I am now a fan and I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of this series.

We have a hot possessive alpha male and a strong determined heroine the chemistry between is there right from the moment they meet.

There was plenty of romance and suspense which has left me wondering what comes next, especially there are many secrets hinted at in this book.

Roll on for the rest of this series.

This is a novella from the Dark Kings series by Donna Grant that brings us the story of Rachel and Asher.

Rachel is a journalist and she wants the world to know the truth about the Dragon Kings. But when she meets one, everything that she thought she knew changes.

Asher is a Dragon King and he needs to find out what Rachel knows and try to stop her plans. But when he meets her everything changes for him.

I really liked this novella. It was a quick and fun read but at the same time it was interesting and captivating. I really love their romance and how it developed.

I loved the strong chemistry between Asher and Rachel.

Also, at least there's a bit progress regarding Ulrik.

The heroine is an American, again. I'm bored.

I think Asher is a green dragon. I forgot the details, oops.

Of course, Rachel is a human. I'm bored some more.

That's all.

Dragon Fever - Tour banner

DRAGON FEVER by Donna Grant, a novella in her Dark Kings Series brought to you by 1001 Dark Nights, is finally here! Be sure you check out the trailer and all the stops on the tour. It's available now so grab your copy today!

Asher appealed to me because he seemed so relaxed and informal yet took on the professional job at the WWC representing Draegan and did it well. However, I was disappointed in his quick reaction to Rachel right from the beginning. I know there is a lot of insta-love in the series. Especially with the novellas. But I just felt like he was a little naive when falling for Rae’s attempts to get information from him. Seeing her thumb ring all over the convention should have given him more of a clue.

Rachel came across very distant and just angry at the world. Her determination to reveal the Kings seemed so engrossing. She had nothing else in her life to distract her. She claims to have never felt desire, which left me kind of thinking “whaaa”, but Asher lights that fire. I think that her new emotion is part of what totally distracted her from her job. I think because we really don’t get to know her until near the end of the story, I felt irritated by her. I knew she was giving into Asher but she just would not give up on her job. It wasn’t until the couple both reveal their secrets that I found I felt a little sympathy towards her.

Dragon Fever teaser 2

Throughout the whole story, and the interactions with each other we suspect that Rachel is Asher’s mate, but is interesting that we are not sure until the Dark Fae try to snag her. I didn’t quite understand why Ulrick wanted the Dark Fae to use their magic on her when he planned on killing her himself.

Now that we have most of the romantic stuff established, we get to move on to the main storyline with Ulrick. He’s been so sneaky and really keeping the Kings on their toes. Because of his careful planning, no one has truly known just how much of his power has returned. The reveal to Asher seemed like he was revealing to someone unimportant. Not that I think Asher was unimportant, I just thought a big surprise like this he would either reveal to the Kings as a group or directly to Con. It made for a good fight with Asher, but Ulrick leaving the scene let you know that this was just a taste of what he could do. He wasn’t going to give away anymore secrets than he was ready to give. I don’t think Ulrick would have killed Asher because he would need someone to return to Con to let him know. Ulrick was strong enough that he could have been King of Kings. I can’t see him walking away from Asher who would most likely not be able to beat him. I wonder what he is up to next.

I felt like Rachel and Asher coming together left Asher looking a little vulnerable and I really worried about his plan to confront Rachel after her secrets were revealed. I think her questioning her job completely made me think a little differently about her.

Glass of whiskey on wooden background close up

As usual, I love the parts with Ulrick. He always has surprises. You just never know what he will do. I couldn’t figure out if his plan was for Rachel to fall for Asher, or if he saw her lack of desire as assurance that she was immune and he could get a good story reveal from her. He is just so unpredictable.

I love seeing the Kings, who have been unable to love for so many centuries finally finding mates. I wasn’t so convinced on this pairing, but it is a novella. Novellas need to move things along pretty quickly, so any complications in the couple had to be resolved quicly.

I think this is a BIG addition to the series with Ulrick’s reveal, and needs to be read in order along with the novels.

Be careful what you go looking for...

Rachel Marek is an undercover journalist, "Rae", on a mission to expose the truth about dragons. When Rachel lays eyes on her mark, Dragon King Asher from Dreagan, she'll get more than she bargained for. Sadly Rachel believes she can use her Rae persona to lure and seduce Asher but it is actually Asher who seduces Rae.

Asher is in beautiful Paris, France representing Dreagan at the WWC in place of the King of Kings, Constantine. Asher meets the mysterious Ms. Blossom Engel who he can't decide if she is friend or foe. Ms. Engel is his personal assistant for the week and nothing gets past her eagle eye. Ms. Engel is on to Rae/Rachel and lets Asher know Rae's not what she proclaims to be.

After the night Asher and Rachel meet and share a meal, Rachel's plans rapidly fall apart and it's not looking good for her exposure story. Of course, she falls head over heels for the Highlander and falls into his bed-- the story is forgotten. However, Sam McDonald, aka Ulrik, is not willing to let her off that easy and there is hell to pay once Ulrik realizes Rachel's no longer on board with his plans. Ms. Engel will save the day and another dragon has found his mate.

On my Were Scale of Hotness, 3 stars.

When Asher is sent to Paris to represent Draegan whiskey in the WWC, he is captivated by Ray, a beautiful human who can make him smile and forget about the stress of his days. Rachel Marek is a journalist with a plan. Determined to expose the Dragon Kings for who they really are, she is will stop at nothing to reveal the truth. However, the truth as she knows it isn't as complete as she believed. Getting close to Asher in order to get all the facts straight, Rachel finds herself falling for the gorgeous and powerful dragon king. When Ulrik comes after her to force her to stick to the deal they made, Asher will need to choose between fighting the enemy or keeping his secrets. A short novella where another king finds his mate, while bringing the Dragon Kings a little bit closer to learning the true identity of their enemy and how much power Ulrik has recovered...

REVIEW
This is a novella and in it, we meet Asher and Rachel.
Rachel is a reporter, setup by non-other than someone out to hurt the Dragon Kings unknowingly.
Asher is sent to handle business and is thrown when he meets the one for him...
However is she the one for him?
I enjoy this author's writing and we get action, suspense and just the right amount of spicy.
I am slowly making my way through this author's stories and each one keeps me reading until I have finished the entire story in one sitting.

I liked the change of scenery, from Dreagan in Scotland to Paris, France in this book. I found the story to be romantic with very sexy steamy scenes. Unfortunately, I wasn’t fond of Rachel Marek, not because she didn’t eventually redeem herself - which she did in the long run - but because she didn’t seem to be a very adept professional journalist. Also, I found her falling hard and fast for Asher a little hard to swallow since she firmly believed that those at Dreagan were dangerous liars who needed to be revealed to the world. I liked Asher well enough but not much of his backstory was given. The warehouse scene near the end provided an action packed climatic point as part of the plot.

This was an enjoyable novella that had me pleasantly surprised with an interesting storyline that fortunately added to the progression of the series.

Asher is sent to Paris to the annual World Whiskey Conversation instead of Con. Rachel is sent in to investigate him and write an article revealing all of their secrets to the world. What neither of them suspects is that the moment they meet sparks fly and a fever rises between the two of them. When it is revealed that Ulrik sent Rachel, Asher is disappointed in yet another human, but he turns the tables on her and he reveals his past and in so doing wins her trust and loyalty. Of course, he then has to rescue her from Ulrik, which gives us a spectacular surprise about how far Ulrik has come with his magic. Typical goodness. Great passion. Though a novella, I didn’t mind the rushed romance. I like coming back to the Dragon Kings again and again. Love me some DG!!

Rachel is at the World Whiskey Summit in Paris to try and expose the Dragon Kings. Her target is Asher who was sent to the Summit to represent Dreagan. She is instantly attracted to Asher, and he to her. Asher eventually realizes the truth about her job and confronts her.

Their relationship was quick and steamy. Though a quick relationship they had some major issues to work through first. The truth about Dreagan and Ulrik. I liked Asher. He was super nice to everyone and made a great spokesman for Dreagan. At first I wasn't really loving Rachel but she quickly grew on me.

Overall, I liked this story. It does have new information about Ulrik so I recommend reading it before moving onto the next book.

This novella is #9.5 in the series, "Dark Kings" by author; Donna Grant. This novella (short story) picks up from #9 (Smoke and Fire). The series just keeps getting better and better. There's the HOT Scottish alpha male that's able to shift into his natural form as a Dragon! There's also plenty of romance, lots of action, suspense and the PLOT twist! The plot twist keeps the reader wanting to read the whole series because you absolutely have to know what's going to happen. I love how each novel/novella has their own love story but continues on with the main story line, it's amazingly exciting and fun! If you are in a book rut then this series and author are definitely worth a try! You won't be disappointed!

Too short, not enough srory for Asher

This novella was just a tasye into this world of Dragon Kings that was created by Donna Grant, but honestly Asher deserved more, he is the biggest homebody among the clan, but why, he had a family he lost. I would habe liked a dull book, but I understand these are basic introductions into the world she created is to get people to want more.

I had started this years years ago, stopped at book 9, this novella is considered 9.5 in the overall anthology of the series, which now has about 18 books.

This series, does have you reading in order as one single story travels throughout, along with the story of the couple highlighted in the book or novella.

Asher & Rachel Marek, journalist

Ulrick has enlisted Rachel to write a piece on the Dragon Kings and went after Asher for the information. He was at the Whisky Consortium in Paris representing Draegan. It didn’t go as plan when he found out who she was and who she was working for, Sam McDonald aka Ukrick.
Asher & Ukrick fought as dragons and things were said to put doubts in Asher’s head. New questions and allies are brought out. Who is Blossom Engel? Who are the men working for her? How did she find out about the Kings? I guess in time I will find these answers.
