Health-conscious mother of three, Sophia Ruan Gushée thought she knew how to be healthy. Only after she became a mother did she become aware of an overlooked influence on health: toxic exposures. These pervade not just our outdoor environments but also our homes, bodies, and diet. Their impact on health can be most influential during periods of rapid biological development, which makes protecting children a top priority. Inspired to become a truly conscious parent and to provide her young family with a healthy foundation, Sophia spent more than five years identifying practical approaches for reducing her family's unnecessary exposures. In A to Z of D-Toxing: The Ultimate Guide to Reducing Our Toxic Exposures, Sophia shares what she learned.
Created to be the only reference book that a head of household needs, it includes hundreds of tips, as well as ten ideas to implement today--Sophia's D-Tox Strategy. These tips help increase the odds for more resilient health not just for individuals, but for our planet as well. This is an empowering resource that will lay the groundwork for leading a healthy life.
Health-conscious mother of three, Sophia Ruan Gushée thought she knew how to be healthy. Only after she became a mother did she become aware of an overlooked influence on health: toxic chemicals, heavy metals, and electromagnetic fields (EMFs) from what we buy, own, and do. These toxic exposures pervade not just our outdoor environments but also our homes, bodies, and diet. Their impact on health can be most influential during periods of rapid biological development, which makes protecting children a top priority.
Inspired to become a truly conscious parent and to provide her young family with a healthy foundation, Sophia spent more than eight years identifying practical approaches for reducing her family's unnecessary exposures. In A to Z of D-Toxing: The Ultimate Guide to Reducing Our Toxic Exposures, Sophia shares what she learned.

Wow, what an eye-opener! Not a happy topic, but it's too frightening to ignore too. It makes sense frankly when you think about it. Tons of new chemicals introduced into our society every year, not really regulated or tested, some with known negative health effects, and our general health trends are going down, cancer rates up, etc - seems like there should be a connection... And I do not trust corporations and governments to have the power, knowledge or incentives to protect us so this book, which is incredibly well researched, seems like a good way to try to educate ourselves.
I am a Dad with little kids and I definitely see the benefit of getting smart on this topic and this book seems like the best resource there is. Definitely the most comprehensive. I bet it will be considered the bible of this topic even after more books on this topic come out. And actually it was pretty easy to read despite the intense topic and information rich content. I had some quick take aways (and some aha moments) - like the now obvious potential harmful effects of most mattresses (think about mattresses infused with fire retardant chemicals, off gassing toxic fumes and our noses spend half our life 2 inches away), and other things I will do over time. This reference book should be required reading for everyone.
This book is a must-read for everyone. While there's a clear appeal for those interested in health and wellness, the information, tips, and overarching wisdom that the book imparts is important for ALL consumers. While the facts showing how pervasive toxic chemicals are in our environment, diet, and products may be shocking for the uninitiated, the author guides readers through the landscape with a gentle hand. All information is presented in an intriguing, easy-to-read, and organized way, and the tips for reducing exposure are both practical and easy (for example, open a window to improve indoor air quality). Any family or individual would benefit from reading this book!
I found that the index is a particularly helpful tool; when in search of a topic (such as nontoxic cleaning), a specific product, or chemical, I was able to find the information I needed quickly. Overall, a wonderful and important read!
I received this book, for free, in exchange for an honest review.
This book is an excellent reference book on how to minimize the impact of toxins in your life. It describes common toxins and gives recommendations on how to avoid them. Recommendations are broken into categories such as interior furnishings, mattresses and flooring so that it is easy to determine the best product to buy. My only wish is that the book talked more about removing toxins from your body with diet/supplements. It does talk about the importance of diet, but doesn't talk about detoxification much.
This book is a must-read for anyone who cares about his or her body, health / wellness and the environment. Thoughtfully written, the book outlines scientific proof of the many toxins in our environment, their possible negative effects and the products in which they exist. The author then provides realistic tips to help people reduce toxic exposure in day to day life. Everyone should have this book in their reference library as a resource.
Thank you for the book! I found A to Z of D-Toxing very informative. I found it to be not heavy-laden with lots of medical terms, but easy to read for the average public. I did pick up a few tips that I had not been aware of. Thanks, again!
