Loved this one. It was an easy, fun read, and yet a disturbing one, as well. Not gory but with substance. There was sadness, as well. I enjoyed the magic, and really liked all the main characters. The mc and her bestie epitomize the ideal in friendship. The thing about a missing necklace was, I think, left dangling (no pun intended) but, otherwise, it was a good one. I have the next one ready to read in the next week or so.

This book took me by surprise. I was expecting a run-of-the-mill paranormal mystery, instead, I got a compelling story that happened to have witches, ghosts, and a murder mystery.
Jinx and Tori are a fabulous best friend duo. Together they come to terms with the new life that is thrust upon them when Jinx's Aunt Fionna dies and leaves Jinx her store.
I ate this book up. I read it in one sitting, and now I *need* the next book.
I didn't like this book. Nope. I LOVED IT. Talk about sucking me in! I didn't want to put it down! It is book one of the series and I know I will be reading them all.

The story revolves around Jinx Hamilton, a young lady who is rather tired of waitressing and wants to be her own boss. Her wishes come true - she inherits a store from her eccentric (putting it mildly) Aunt. The first revelation that things may not be mundane is when Jinx realizes she can suddenly levitate and move items at will. Sh

Norma Jean “Jinx” Hamilton inherits her crazy Aunt Fiona’s all and sundry store in the neighboring town of Briar Hollow, NC, but what she doesn’t realize until she takes up residence is that now she’s also a witch. How is this even a thing?! With the help of her best friend Tori, they figure things out as they go along. Can this really be her life now?

A cute paranormal mystery story that had me turning the pages to see what would happen next. The character

I really liked the book. It is cute, clever, funny, and delightful. After her aunt dies, Jinx takes over her shop and her magic. I look the fact the Jinx's best friend believes her and helps her to solve the mystery. I also like the way Jinx's does not fight the knowledge of her powers. That was a pleasant surprise. So many writers have the hero fight being a witch. The
Is is a fun read and hard to put down. I highly recommend this book.
Norma Jean "Jinx" Hamilton inherits her 'Crazy Aunt Fiona's’ store and apartment and a little something extra, her witch’s powers. She and her friend Tori begin to explore Jinx’s new found powers which leads them to the ghost of Jane at the local cemetery and before long they are on the trail of a murderer.

The book is filled with Jinx’s homelies I like the way Jinx talks almost as a character turning to talk directly to the camera in a movie:

"Witch at Heart: A Jinx Hamilton Witch Mystery Book 1" by Juliette Harper, is a fun read filled with southern charm. Jinx Hamilton just inherited her Crazy Aunt Fiona's building. It comes with a shop filled with everything under the sun, probably including a kitchen sink, and an apartment full of her stuff. Sad but excited to start this new chapter in her life, Jinx moves into her aunt's apartment, and as she falls asleep thanks her aunt, but also asks her for her "magic" too. Not realizing, the ...more
This paranormal cozy was by far one of the best I've read in a while. I went into reading this with a bit of apprehension since the whole, 'by the way honey you're a witch' shtick has been done to death. But fortunately for me this novel handled itself with aplomb. Jinx is a really amazing main character, with a hilarious cast of secondary characters. One of the best aspects of this novel? It didn't take itself too seriously. It was a well written, fluffy, fun cozy mystery that left me smiling. ...more

Love Jinx Hamilton!

I knew within the first couple pages I was going to enjoy this book. I felt it was well written and I loved the characters. The characters have a lot of depth and you felt drawn in to their lives. I loved the light comedic way the author worked in the witchcraft and the craziness of the shop and the pet rat. Look forward to reading more of the Jinx Hamilton series.

The book was a page turner. Had to stay up late to read most of nite. However clues were too easy to pick up. Would read rest of series. Reminds me of Kim Harrison's writing style.

I chose the rating because it was the first in a series looking forward to seeing character development. Hope it doesn't evolve in to a romance novel but more fantasy. Will recommend to any one who likes this genre.

This took me a little while to truly get into, but by the time the solutions started coming and everything married up, I could appreciate the brilliant planning that has gone into the plotting of this tale.
A good fun read with a fine dose of mystery and a touch of romance.

I absolutely adore this story! Everything about it was fan-freaking-tastic. The Characters, the plot development, the world building, fan-freaking-tastic. Put the rest of your TBR on the back burner right now, and pick this book up. (It's available on prime reading, you know, if you're into that.)

Jinx is an absolute treasure. She's cynical, sarcastic, hilarious, but with a loving heart. I fell in love with her in the first few pages. I found her very relatable. From her cats to her admiration of

If you are expecting...

A sort of Charlaine Harris style, a.k.a. The Southern Vampire Mystery novels, a.k.a. the Sookie Stackhouse novels, look elsewhere.

The plot is thin, rushed, and frankly silly. The characters are two dimensional. The reveal at the end is unsatisfying, and it's sort of a "chick lit meets an episode of Supernatural with a little Charmed mixed in.

So why three stars? Because I get the distinct feeling I am not in the target audience, what with testosterone and a literary bend. R

This was a fun book - well except for the murder. Jinx's Aunt Fiona has died and left Jinx her eccentric, haphazard shop. The shop has a bit of everything and Jinx can't find any logic to all of the. . .stuff is the best word Jinx probably thinks. Jinx has to figure out some type of order but while she's doing that she finds out her aunt hasn't just left the shop but Aunt Fiona has also left Jinx her magic. Small problem - Jinx's feet are planted firmly on the side of there isn't any magic. But ...more

Book 1 in the Jinx Hamilton series

This is a great book! After a rapid introduction to Jinx and her best friend, we are invited on a whirling journey to examine some of the issues that have recently arisen. The light-hearted storytelling reveals characters who strive for self awareness. Each woman wants more than she has, and as additional details are revealed, both recognize that this--the situation that underpins this story--can provide opportunities to move forward. Not sure why I let this sit in my to-read queue on my kindle for so long, but I finally got to it, and now I want to read #2.
When Jinx Hamilton inherits her aunt's general store and the apartment upstairs, she decides what the heck--I'll move there and give it a go, so she quits her waitressing job and heads out, much to her mother's chagrin. She hadn't spoken with her aunt in years, but she has fond memories of hanging there in her youth. Turns out her aunt had paranormal powers, and Jinx begin

Delightfully enjoyable read

I really enjoyed this book. This is a fun read about a young woman who inherits a store (and magical powers) from her aunt. Her aunt seems to be very busy enjoying her afterlife so much that she is not available to advise her niece about her new powers or the fact that the store is a sentient being. Through trial and error Jinx manages to fumble her way through things and in the process, with the help of her BFF, she solves a 30 year old mystery and helps the ghosts of

This one has it all!

A delightful story about Jinx coming to town to take over her deceased Aunt Fiona's shop. In the process she learns she has been gifted with "witch powers" by her Aunt. Her best friend Tory comes to help her organize the shop, with a little help from the handsome cobbler from next door. Between I learning how to use her witch powers and getting involved in solving a 29-year-old murder the two best friends manage to get into and out of plenty of trouble! They both have a great

Ok I read this is the first book and I'm totally hooked! I read a lot so finding a new way of writing
A story about becoming a witch or getting powers has too be catchy for me too read it. Also a big plus is the books are all in kindle unlimited,I absolutely hate starting a series and having the authors make you pay for last book or two in the series, warning to authors will slam all in reviews who do this! Love jinx and sidekick tori slow enough too enjoy but fast enough not to get bored!

God, solid story.

This is a great beginning to a series. I won't give a rundown of the story since that is in other reviews.
The main character is easy to like, as is her best friend. They have an easy flowing manner that seems natural. I enjoyed the bits of Southern sprinkled throughout, it reminds me of my younger days in WVa.
The plot is will laid out, flows smoothly and is done with a sense of humor and the growth of the central character struck me as logical. I'm going to start the next b

"Together we always have the courage to do what we don’t believe we can do alone. That’s another kind of magic. It’s called friendship."

This is a cute little book about a woman who inherits a magical shop and some magical powers and sets them to use in order to solve some not so cute murders.

The characters are all very likeable, human and non human alike, and the quote in the beginning of my review encapsulates perfectly the atmosphere of the book.

I'm definitely reading the rest of the series.

Jinx Hamilton is a 20-something waitress who inherits a quirky store in a small town in North Carolina from her Crazy Aunt Fiona, and finds out she’s a witch who can see dead people. While building her business in Briar Hollow, she comes across the ghosts of murdered girls, and some spirits who are trapped in a cemetery. How many times has that all been done, right? But there’s something about this series that grabbed me.

Jinx is an entertaining character. She doesn’t take herself to seriously, a

Like a lot of urban fantasy whodunits, this one has a perky, enjoyable protagonist who I immediately liked. Jinx is a kindly, uncomplicated soul, who works alongside her best friend as a waitress and lives at home – until her Aunt Fiona dies. There are some appealing moments of humour and a chirpy upbeat mood, with the cats also contributing to the general cosy sense of small community and peacefulness.
While there is a hint of romance, the overriding relationship that powers this book is the fri

Admittedly, I was expecting a supernatural fantasy, maybe with some cozy aspects thrown in, along the lines of Halloweentown. What I got was Gilmore Girls (but starring two friends rather than a mother and daughter) attempting to solve a mystery with a dash of paranormal thrown in. There really wasn’t much romance at all (seriously, I think it just amounted to a couple of pecks on the cheek). The mystery itself was rather boring, and towards the end, Jinx started to look like a total idiot when ...more

I really, really liked this book since it's unusual in so many ways. Jinx is a witch who has inherited a relative's store in a small town. So she moves there with her four cats and is visited by her friend Tori.

First task is to check out the store, go through the inventory and prepare to open it for business. What's unusual about that? The store itself is magical and definitely has a personality of its own. Then there's Rodney the white rat who lives in a cupboard, is extremely intelligent and f

I'm giving Witch at Heart five stars since it had me turning the pages. I thought Jinx a lovely, warm-hearted girl and as she sets off on her endeavours to help ghosts (very much like Ghost Whisperer - my favourite TV supernatural series), I found the story intriguing.

I do believe the saying is, 'Be careful what you wish for,' not 'ask for', but I understood the sentiments. I liked the fact it was written not only in the first person but also in a humorous and quirky way emphasising Jinx's perso

What a fun mystery!

This was so entertaining! It was like sitting down with a good friend. I love all of the characters. Rodney is so cute! The dialogue is great. All of the idioms are so familiar. Myrtle is a cool twist. The town is so true to small towns everywhere. The only thing wrong with this book is that I wasn't ready to leave Briar Hollow when the story concluded. I will definitely be coming back to visit!

The main character is Jinx Hamilton (real name, Norma Jean but likes nickname of Jinx) who inherits a shop from her aunt Fiona. Jinx finds out she is a witch and has the ability to ask the shop for help. The shop lets her know that her name is Myrtle and finds items in the store for Jinx and other surprising help. Jinx's best friend Tori also helps her helps ghosts who were murdered. When I was reading how the shop helped Jinx find things; I thought I wish my house could help me like this.

When Jinx inherits her Crazy Aunt Fiona's store it comes along with a mind of it's own....and a name of her own. As Jinx goes about setting the store in order, and wishes for a bit of Aunt Fiona's magic, the possibilities are endless ;) With a best friend as loyal as they come, a hunky neighbor, and plenty of ghosts, Jinx soon finds herself trying to solve cold cases and testing out her new powers. A fun read.
