Published since 2009, USA Today Bestselling author Naima Simone loves writing sizzling romances with heart, a touch of humor and snark. Her books have been featured in The Washington Post and Entertainment Weekly, and described as balancing “crackling, electric love scenes with exquisitely rendered characters caught in emotional turmoil.”
She is wife to Superman, or his non-Kryptonian, less bullet proof equivalent, and mother to the most awesome kids ever. They all live in perfect, sometimes domestically-challenged bliss in the southern United States.
Someone has been threatening Sloane Barrett. She has been receiving threatening emails and creepy phone calls for weeks now. And after returning home from her best friends engagement party, these threats turned physical when someone broke into her house and tried to kidnap her. Turning to GDG Security Solutions for help, she is shocked to see Ciaran Ross, whom she met the night before.
Ciaran is just as shocked to see Sloane again too. And when he learns what has been happening to Sloane he becomes determined to protect her from the threat against her. And if posing as her "date" to her parents anniversary party is what he has to do to stay close to her body, then that's what he'll have to do. And the longer that Ciaran is protecting Sloane and the more he gets to know her, another threat becomes clear to Ciaran... his well-guarded heart.
But Ciaran has lost someone he was supposed to protect before and is determined not to let it happen again.
While this book is called Killer Curves, there was WAY to much focus on Sloane's figure. Literally, every other thought or sentence talked about Sloane's body (both negative and positive). I got that Sloane was a stick figure LITERALLY from the first sentence. And it just.... Didn't... Stop. It was like beating a dead horse... Over and over. It made me skip pages and just roll my eyes at the repetition.

As threats to her life escalate, can this ex-socialite teacher find love even more danger in her protector?
Sloane Barrett teaches at an exclusive school but has been having some weird things happening lately. Nasty weird… definitely unsettling weird…worrying weird…and getting worse. She tries to ignore it but when her house is broken into and she’s attacked she realises ignoring it all won’t make it go away. She goes to see her best friend, whose fiancé is a partner in a security firm and meets up with the handsome hunk, Ciaran Ross, she’s met at that same friend’s engagement party. He’s still as handsome and attractive but she’s determined to resist. Her ex was also a handsome hunk but he was controlling and demeaning, shattering her self-esteem and confidence. She’s still reeling from escaping him and doesn’t want to be dependent on anyone like that ever again.
Former DEA agent, Ciaran Ross saw his girlfriend killed when the security situation went down last time he mixed business and pleasure. Although shot and injured, he’s never forgiven himself for her untimely death. He’s now a partner in GDG Security Solutions and first met Sloane at his business partner’s engagement party when the attraction was instantaneous and hot, though both resisted any temptation. When he meets Sloane again, the attraction is still hot but when he learns about the danger she’s in, he’s determined to keep her safe whilst also keeping out of a relationship with her. With both trying to avoid anything to do with love and attraction, can they both resist or will love find a way to bring them together without endangering Sloane’s life?
It was great to read about a heroine who isn’t super skinny! It wasn’t great how her Mum made her feel fat because she’s average size with curves, but I loved Ciaran’s attitude to this. Sloane has had a lifetime of feeling “not good enough”, her ex reinforced these feelings but Ciaran’s the one who will help her realise she’s so much more worthy. He has loved and lost, and in so dramatic a manner that he doesn’t believe he’ll ever love again. The author makes it easy to relate to both these complex characters. The plot is engaging, with plenty of drama, danger and events to make the whole story a real page turner and one which I have no hesitation in recommending to anyone who likes their romance spiced with deadly danger, deceitful ‘friends’ and a heroic leading man overcoming his past trauma.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for this, an honest review.
I loved Sloane from the beginning. She is smart, strong, and a badass heroine. Ciarin is exactly the man she needs and deserves. The mystery, the romance, just all of it was AMAZING!
Guarding Her Body book two, Killer Curves, is another exciting story from Naima Simone. Now honestly it wasn't as great as the first book but I loved Sloane; beautiful overweight, fear of failure and all, she is an easy character to relate to. Ciaran is a horn dog (mostly just for Sloane) but dedicated to his job and damn fine. The story and action/suspense were good, it kept me entertained well enough if not a little slow in parts (internal monologues can get tedious if redundant). The red herring was obvious and the actual perpetrator a little predictable, but all the events leading up to and the progression of the romance made a good story.
Sloane is the black sheep of the family; she, instead of being the socialite and trophy wife like her mother and sister, became a teacher. Sloane is overweight and as much as she tells herself that she accepts her weight no one else does, from backhanded compliments from her mother to the outright hateful things her ex-fiance would insult her. Finally getting a backbone and leaving him, Sloane still feels the sting of his words now almost a year later. Sloane is also unhappy in her job, her father pulled some strings and got her a job at a prestigious private high school full of entitled brats, who think they can buy their grades and threaten her job. Lately even weirder things have been happening, strange phone calls and emails. Things escalated and her tires were slashed, thought it wasn't until her house was broken into and she was attacked that she finally does something about it.
Ciaran Ross wasn't looking for love, in fact he didn't want anything to do with it he didn't feel worthy of it. But one look at the killer curves of Sloane and lust hits him square in the chest. When she comes to his security firm for protection Ciaran knows he should hand off the case to someone else because his personal feelings for Sloane but he can't relinquish that responsibility, he feels that only he can protect her. And protect her he does, he also proves to her that she is desireable and that sometimes risks are worth taking.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable read. Can't wait for more.
There are threats to her life but they continue to escalate so Sloane Barrett, schoolteacher, knows she needs to reach out to someone special to help her before she ends up seriously hurt or even killed. She ends up seeing her best friend and her fiancée and his best friend who happens to be partners in a security firm are there. Her best friend mentions the situation and when Ciaran Ross hears (he’s the partner of her best friend’s fiancée ) and when they meet again, then when he hears about her situation, he wants to help. The sparks fly and how she wants to let loose with him. Former DEA agent, Ciaran Ross has a past that makes it hard for him to get into relationships now. He saw his girlfriend die in front of him when the situation they were mixing business and pleasure. He has never forgiven himself so he doesn’t really date now but one look at Sloane and that has all changed. Something about her calls to him and he wants to protect her, wrap her up and argue all with her at one time. He’s now a partner in GDG Security Solutions, has met her for the first time at the engagement party for his partner but he didn’t take that option. Instead, when he runs into Sloane again and hears about what is going on, he wants to protect her and help. But it’s a double edged sword because he feels this overwhelming attraction to her. Will helping her bring them closer together and let love in or will it break them apart? Also will he be able to get the person/persons after Sloane? This was such a wonderful read and the MC generated such fantastic chemistry. I enjoyed reading the story and cannot wait to read more by this author. My Rating: 4.5 stars **** ***A gifted copy was provided by the publisher for my honest review****
I have always loved this author's work and this book was no exception. The plot was simple enough and the perpetrator was easy to figure out but I still couldn't do it. I liked that part. The romance was sweet and full of angst. I did want it to be a bit longer though, at the end. At least an epilogue would have been great. But nonetheless, loved the book and both the characters.
Free audible. The fmc is very badly written. The plot was good enough but the fmc was deeply unlikeable. Insecure, pushover, unbelievably naive and made bad decisions over and over. Do not recommend.

REVIEW: KILLER CURVES is the second installment in Naima Simone’s contemporary, adult GUARD HER BODY romantic suspense series. This is former DEA agent Ciaran Ross, and private school teacher Sloane Barrett’s storyline. KILLER CURVES can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous storyline is imparted where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Ciaran and Sloane) KILLER CURVES focuses on hunting down the people responsible for threatening Sloane Barrett. For several weeks Sloane has been receiving threatening emails with graphic pictures, hang up phone calls, and recently her tires had been slashed when she left to go home. With two physical attacks against our heroine, and the possibility that a former student is seeking revenge for a failing grade, Sloane hires GDG Security for her own personal protection. Enter Ciaran Ross, co-owner of GDG Security, and the man who calls to our heroine’s heart.
Sloane has issues of insecurity that have followed our heroine for most of her life. From a mother who is ‘embarrassed’ by her daughter’s curvy figure, to an ex-fiancee who was determined to destroy all of our heroine’s self esteem, a self fulfilling prophecy of negative body image dogs Sloane wherever she goes.
Ciaran is a man possessed by the failures of his past, and is unable to let go of the dark memories. PTDS, grief and guilt do not allow Ciaran to move forward, and add another layer of insecurity to our heroine’s already fragile sense of self-worth when the man with whom she is falling in love, is unable to fall in love-in return.
The relationship between Sloane and Ciaran begins as professional although our couple met at Fallon and Shane’s (Witness To Passion #1) engagement party the night before. Ciaran places himself as Sloane’s personal bodyguard and faux boyfriend for a weekend anniversary party at Sloane’s parents where a celebration turns into another attempt on our heroine’s life. The $ex scenes are erotic, intense and provocative.
KILLER CURVES follows several potential threats against Sloane from a former lover with an axe to grind; a former student not happy with a failing grade; and any number of family members who see Sloane as potential fodder for retribution and revenge. The premise is full of suspense and mystery; the characters are colorful, charismatic, and a few are over the top caricatures of evil and bad. The romance and attraction between our couple is immediate; the sexual chemistry is hot although Ciaran tries to keep his business and personal life separate and apart. He isn’t willing to risk anyone else’s life while on the job.
KILLER CURVES is an entertaining read; an enjoyable and suspense filled storyline about retribution and revenge; falling in love and letting go of the past.
I recently had the opportunity to read, and review Simone’s novel and boy am I happy I got the chance. Having read it, I have to say: “Oh my, oh my, oh my.” The overall story: Our slightly “overweight” heroine (or so the nasty ex says, grrr) is being harassed by an unknown assailant, and thus is forced to take bodyguard help of a friend’s friend, who, naturally finds her gorgeously lush…as he should! A familiar formula, and wonderfully executed. Often when there is a supposed overweight heroine there is some serious harping about the issue in a way that I get annoyed about what seems the author’s self-therapy of getting over weight issues. This was NOT the case in Simone’s romance. In fact, it was, from the hero’s perspective anyway, an actual non-issue, which made me like, and believe it. Kudos.
Characters: I liked Sloane a lot. She was passionate about her dreams, likable, brave and healthy of mind. Which is always a plus…especially for a heroine dealing with…well, a lot carp. Her male counterpart, Ciaran, is a manly man (all strength and reliability, yummy), with a sense of ethics that get him into trouble while facing the temptation that is our heroine. He’s got some issues, but who hasn’t, that make him close to adorable. What it boils down to, he’s a good guy, and that’s what matters, especially in romance. Secondary characters were similarly interesting making me have to read the other book in the series, as well. Darn it!
Plot: Relatively straightforward, and secondary to the romance, of course. This is after all a story about two people finding each other and then overcoming all the hurdles in their path before reaching their happy ending. Very satisfactory! More than enough suspense to keep you guessing straight to the end about who did what and why, so it added extra flavour to the already spicy mix.
Sex: Yes. Yes there was that!…ergo the “Oh my,” earlier on. Plenty of it, in full Technicolor, but done in a way that it wasn’t in the least gratuitous. I’ve read my share, but I blushed a time or two. Hah. Not smart to read on a bus…at least, not if you’re prone to blushing. *wink*
End conclusion: A perfect blend of romance, heat, sweetness, and suspense. I will be recommending this one to romance readers.
This sexy and action packed romantic suspense story finds Sloane needing some personal protection after finding herself the target of threats that are becoming increasingly more personal. With security specialist Ciaran assigned to the job, there is no doubt the perpetrators will be found - but will both of them survive with their bodies and hearts intact?
From the start of this story, I was enthralled. Full of tight action sequences and plenty of drama, what's happening to Sloane is no joking matter, as she is threatened by emails, vandalism and eventually personal assaults. Throw on top of that her breakup with a verbally abusive boyfriend in the not so distant past and she's about ready to throw in the towel. Sexy, determined bodyguard Ciaran (whom she first meets at a friend's party when he focuses his all too intense gaze on her) isn't going to let what happened to his former partner happen to her. But keeping her safe should also mean keeping her away from him physically, and that's just something he can't quite do. The sexual attraction between them is too intense to ignore and results in some very steamy scenes (I'm surprised my ereader survived intact). Ciaran struggles with his feelings for Sloane and his desire to keep her safe, and Sloane is determined once and for all to stand up for herself. She's not willing to let this new man who has barged his way into her life go quite so easily. With the threat of danger on every page, combined with the sexy love scenes and two people who are willing to fight whatever required to be safe and secure, it's an entertaining and fast paced read. If you're a fan of Lisa Marie Rice's stories, I think you'll really enjoy this one. 4.5 stars.

The anti-fatness in this book makes absolutely no sense. A size 14 is not fat. Sloan is 5’10 and 155 pounds is THAT IS NOT LARGE. Her level of self hate isn’t fully fleshed out to be as bad as it’s described so it’s ridiculous, annoying and weird. And who in their right mind wishes for a hip less and skinny frame. (Her words) No hips???? WTF. Also her mother is a complete bitch and she just lets her speak to her any way she wants. Why is Sloane written as a stupid doormat who can’t stand up to her mother! She lets everyone walk all over her and is afraid of every damn thing like she was raised in an underground bunker not Boston. I don’t understand the need to make her this docile and delicate and dumb just as a plot device…..it’s hella annoying and weird. She should’ve told her mother to go fuck her self. Her ex is a fuckboy and she lets his goofy stupid ass control how she feels about himself. Her parents are abusive emotionally and it makes no sense that she just sits around and takes it. WTF? Why is she taking all this disrespect. Ugh…..All the cry baby woe is me BS is such a boring trope. And her parents are friends with her fuckboy ex and she never told her parents about the way he treated her. And she attended the party anyway?!?! This a grown ass 26 year old woman! She acts like a child. She even let her mom attempt to dress her in some ugly ass dress until Ciaran made her goofy ass change into a different dress. She so much of a doormat it’s hard to read. It makes no sense. She’s too damn old to be this dumb. Ciaran is great and sexy though.
Even strong men have their weaknesses. Former DEA agent Ciaran Ross lost a CI and the love of his life when he mixed business with pleasure. He has made a promise to himself never to let that happen again. Now working for GDG Security Solutions he has yet to find anyone who could make him want to break the vow he made not to fall for anyone. Enter Sloane Barrett. Sloane and Ciaran meet at Fallon and Shane’s engagement party. The attraction is immediate and intense yet Sloane doesn’t trust it and avoids him like the plague. Unfortunately Sloane has a stalker who has escalated to B&E so she needs a bodyguard. Despite his better judgement Ciaran volunteers for the job and that’s when the story gets going and gets really good. I loved watching Sloane grow and find herself and who wouldn’t love the hunk that is Ciaran Ross. I totally got a kick out of watching these two find themselves and each other. The supporting characters were fun and added to the story. A great escape. Complimentary copy provided by author/publisher for an honest review.
Sloane Barrett is a teacher at a very posh school. One of her students is angry with her because she gave him a low grade, but surely he can't be responsible for all the nasty emails and phone calls she has been getting. When things go from bad to worse Sloane knows she needs help. Ciaran Ross is an ex DEA. agent, now working with his best friend in a security company. He carries a big burden of grief and guilt over the death of a woman he loved. This is an exciting, fast paced and sexy story. Our heroine is a BBW who has been belittled and verbally abused by her ex, and is suffering a severe loss of confidence. Someone is also out to do her some serious harm. Our hero is a strong and very sexy man who is full of good intentions, but is having trouble keeping his mind on his job and off the beautiful curvy woman he is supposed to be looking after. A very enjoyable read.
Loved this one! Ciaran and Sloane are both fascinating characters and not at all what you expect. The story is full of suspense and drama with an ending I didn't see coming! Ciaran is a little hard to love at first but as his character develops and you learn his secrets you can't help but give him your heart. Sloane is the last person you would think would be harassed. A teacher who everyone loves and respects but if the emails and late night calls aren't enough to scare her, the break-in at her house is sure to convince her she needs Ciaran's help. Now she just needs to keep her heart safe.
Killer Curves is your basic Body Guard story and really isn't anything new expect for the female lead isn't some perfect stick thin girl. She struggles with her weight and being called fat. There is a lot of fluff or internal monologue and after a while it was quite tedious to read causing me to skip lots of pages.. The male lead thinks nothing of sex with the female lead and I found I couldn't help but roll my eyes after a while. The male lead is also a tortured soul looking for a second chance at life and love. Seriously I could really use a hero who is normal and not damaged for a change.
I really enjoyed this book, even though I wanted to slap the H a few times and that oily ex, The body shaming was a little to much but I know it was part of the story. I was shocked that I had figured out who was behind the threats and kidnapping attempts, and of course that little spoiled sh**. I wish 2 things with this author, 1, epilogue, and more from this series, two just isn't enough for me. On to secrets and sins series.
Sloan Barrett- a private high school teacher to the rich and entitled- starts receiving death threats after she gives a kid a bad grade. When the threats escalated to tire slashing and break-and-entering of her condo, she calls upon a friend whose fiancé is a co-owner of a private security firm. Ciaran Ross- ex-DEA agent now turned private security co-owner is haunted by a job gone wrong that took the life of an old girlfriend. Emotionally stunted, he is intrigued when Sloane starts to turn within him those feelings he once thought dormant. And when her life is in jeopardy, the need to protect her becomes strongest of all-even if that means posing as her new boyfriend at her parent’s anniversary party. Sharing a room becomes the least of their problems when attackers follow her from Boston to her parent’s Hampton estate. Can Sloan and Ciaran figure out who is behind these attacks? Or will passion blind them both to the dangers lurking in the shadows?
My Thoughts:
I didn’t want to review too many books by the same author however I was really in the mood for a bodyguard romance and remembered seeing a couple in Naima’s back catalog. In my opinion, this book had excellent pacing and a well-developed plot. It was 70% romance and 30% thriller/suspense. The entire book I was on the edge of my seat! I am not a seasoned reader of the thriller genre therefore the reveal of the advisory at the end was gasp-worthy! Additionally, the “will-they-or-won’t-they” tension was high. These two characters had some emotional problems to work through first. I was happy to wait for the right moment. What I found truly refreshing was how well Sloan was written as a character. She is an *actual* strong female character. She was overcoming verbal abuse from a recent ex, she kept going about her life despite receiving death-threat emails, and even fought off attackers! Her “no way” was about not wanting to be controlled by a man, again, which the author deftly illustrates in the form of little memories of what was said to her instead of dragging down the story with blocks of flashbacks.
Ciarian and Sloane ❤️ I love teacher heroines (😉) and Sloane has had so much knock her confidence between her mom, ex fiancé and students, but Ciarian comes in and helps her see the amazing woman she is. Once again a great twist that I didn’t see coming.
Naima Simone writes a compelling suspenseful story filled with engaging characters.
My friend Bambi has been bugging me to read this so we could talk about it. She was so excited after she read it and gave it a whopping 5 stars so I had high expectations. I knew I was going to enjoy it anyway since I enjoyed the first installment of Ms Simone's Witness to Passion.
I think the thing which struck me the most in this story is how incredibly delicious Ciaran is. I mean, he's really, really delicious. Ms Simone's description of him was so compelling, it captured my attention totally. I was completely taken with his physical attributes (which were described in great detail repeatedly!) that I almost overlooked his character but fortunately for him, he's a dirty talking alpha male with a dominant streak who likes to be in control. Yeah, that totally works for me! :-)
Ciaran is such a great character. He's suffered an incredible loss and we go through this story learning how strong and dedicated he is in his job but yet he fears true intimacy and involvement with someone because of the loss he has suffered. It holds him back and keeps him from truly living, only existing. It's wonderful to see how taken he is with Sloane and no matter what his head tells him about staying away and keeping his hands off, about not getting "involved", he can't seem to help himself. He keeps getting closer and closer to her. He's drawn to her like a moth to a flame and that, is ultimately, his salvation.
With Sloane, there were moments with some of the things she said where I've thought: OMG! That's me! It's never happened before with any heroine I've ever read. For once, I could totally relate to her because her life was very much like my life, from never being good enough to being too fat to being in the wrong career and having very exacting parents. It's kind of a weird surreal feeling when you read about someone who's life and issues are so much like yours. I found it rather disconcerting. The thing about Sloane though is she fought for who she was as a person and I cheered her on for it. Yes, she had issues and insecurities, she was beaten and trodden upon, and she had to work hard at building herself back up and becoming someone she could be proud of. She went through that whole journey during the course of the book, while being terrorized, stalked, attacked and much more, all the while maintaining a degree of dignity and poise that anyone would be envious of. She showed amazing strength of character, particularly at the end when she confronts Ciaran about his fears and puts herself on the line. Very, very brave.
The suspense was very well done too. Ms Simone certainly kept us guessing with who the bad guy was and it certainly surprised me when he was revealed.
The only thing which bugged me about the story was I felt the focus on both Ciaran and Sloane's personal development issues was too repetitive. At one point, I felt like saying, "okay I get it. Ciaran has intimacy issues. Sloane has self esteem issues. Can we please focus on getting past it?" I even got a bit ranty about it to Bambi but she shot me down and told me to keep reading. (That's what friends are for!). She didn't seem to feel the same way I did!
Overall extremely enjoyable storytelling, Ms Simone. Can't wait for the next story. I wonder who from GDG will be up next?
Well, I can’t say I didn’t like this story. It was interesting, it had some steam, a lot of suspense with a couple of action scenes. Ciaran is a hot ex-DEA agent now running a security agency with a couple of partners. He had a traumatic experience in his past where he couldn’t keep the woman he loved safe so he has been completely shut off to any type of feelings ever since.
Sloane is the black sheep of her perfectly rich family. Being the “fat” sister, always in the shadow of her younger, blond and perky sister, she just decided to be the smart one, and has been working as a teacher much to the chagrin of her mother.
But now she has been receiving disturbing phone calls and emails, and when her house is broken into and she is attacked by the perpetrator, she goes to her best friend’s security agency, where: oh look! Ciaran just happens to be one of the owners.
Well, their attraction for each other had been off the charts since they first set eyes on each other at an engagement party, and at hearing that Sloane is in danger Ciaran’s protective feelings just come out in full force.
She’ll need protection 24/7 and he is willing to be the one on her… professionally speaking of course. Even if he has to pretend to be her date to her parents anniversary party, and they have to share a bedroom. So we know how well that works, of course.
Both of them have quite a bit to work through, mainly his losing the woman he loved and Sloane’s coming off a bad relationship, filled with emotional abuse.
While the story line was good and the suspense well thought out the execution was not entirely to my taste. Well, principally I found the writing style too wordy. And by wordy I don’t mean with more vocabulary than me not being a native speaker would understand, though I did have to look up a couple of words in the dictionary. What I mean is that everything was, extremely, quite abundantly, filled with adjectives. Repeatedly. Almost obnoxiously. This way.
And then both main characters spent so much time up in their heads that I’m not certain at this point how they communicated with each other, much less sustained complete conversations.
Also, while not entirely her fault Sloane had a lot of self-doubt, self-confidence and self-worth issues… in other words she was too insecure. Again, part of her mind set was helped by the ex-fiancée but I don’t usually have a lot of patience for this kind of plight. Even under these extenuating conditions.
In other words, I skimmed a lot, but the suspense was well done and I wanted to make it till the end, it’s just wasn’t the writing style I find enjoyable. If readers are not bothered by the issues I’ve mentioned, I imagine they’ll find Killer Curves a great read.

I enjoy reading Ms. Simone's books because she blends intense sexual chemistry with mystery and suspense in a way that works every time and KILLER CURVES is no different. With entertaining dialogue, a suspenseful story-line about vengeance, courage and unexpected love, this was a very enjoyable read.
Growing up, Sloane Barrett felt like an ugly duckling in a family of swans and her mother took delight in pointing out every inadequacy. She chose to make her own way without the benefit of her trust fund and enjoys her job as a teacher and the independence it affords her, so it's no surprise that she's not willing to ask for help when she gets disturbing phone calls and emails. Until an intruder attacks her in her home and she needs the services of a security firm to figure out who's behind everything.
Ciaran Ross is a partner in GDG Security Solutions but before that, he was a DEA agent who left the agency under tragic circumstances. Ciaran has vowed not to fall for a client again after his one attempt at mixing business with pleasure ended fatally, so his attraction to Sloane will have to go ignored while he works on keeping her safe. The only issue with that is the only way he can control his feelings for Sloane is to stay away from her, which is counterproductive to the goal of keeping her safe.
I enjoyed Sloane and Ciaran so much, especially the verbal volleys between them. Their first meeting set the tone for the explosive passion between them and the build up every time they were together after that first meeting was great. Sloane very fierce in guarding her emotions and her independence and her habit of reciting trivia was cute. From the first page, I loved Ciaran, even with all his hang-ups and rough edges, and I loved how protective of Sloane he was. He's the guy who'll fight his feelings as hard as he can but is totally in when he finally accepts them and I love watching those kind of guys go down... hard!
The suspense was amazing and I did not see the end coming, even with my sleuthing skills. I enjoyed catching up on the characters from the previous book and I'm looking forward to more books in the series.

Killer Curves is the second novel in the Guarding Her Body romantic suspense series from author Naima Simone. Ciaran Ross was introduced in the first novel, Witness to Passion, as one of Shane Roarke's partners in GDG Security Solutions, while Sloane Barrett is a teacher from a well-to-do family and is good friends with Fallon Wayland. Ciaran and Sloane first meet at Shane and Fallon's engagement party and there's an immediate connection between the two, but one that Fallon is fully prepared to engage in because of her past relationship with a verbally abusive fiancé. On the other hand, Ciaran only decides to keep some professional distance when he decides to keep watch over Sloane once he and GDG Security Solutions learns of the threats she's been receiving. There's a lot of tension in the story, brought about by both the increasingly dangerous situation Sloane is in and the attraction brewing between her and Ciaran. I figured out what was really going on, although when it comes to certain motivations, I was left stumped.
Naima Simone has come up with yet another fast-paced suspense thriller with doses of sex and romance to keep fans of the genre satisfied. She's also put together two main characters who have experienced their own forms of trauma and heartache with the individuals they were previously with, making it difficult for them to take that necessary first step to exploring what's going on between them. There's also Sloane's situation with her family, and I must admit that first meeting with Ciaran in tow had me a tad confused and plenty surprised for a bit based on the picture created by Sloane in her prior conversation with Ciaran, but I liked her interactions with them because they weren't what I was expecting. With that much needed chemistry between Ciaran and Sloane in place and with an intriguing story about love, revenge, and absolution, this second in a series didn't disappoint and has me already excited for who among the GDG security guys is up next. If you're looking for a sexy and enjoyable read, check out Killer Curves. 4.5 stars, rounded off to five stars! ♥
This second installment of the Guarding Her Body series was uber yummy and suspenseful - I loved it and read it all in one sitting. I may have even given myself one of those dreadful injuries that I have been known to get while trying to walk and read at the same time. My toes, knees and shins really take a beating when I have one of these books that I can't put down.
I have been impressed with Naima Simone's ability to spin a suspenseful tale that is not easily predictable. While the suspense in Witness to Passion was good, this book far surpassed the first one one for me. I was totally blindsided by the villain in this one. Never saw it coming!
Naima also does a good job at writing tough guy alpha heroes that are a little bit broken - the kind you want to get your hands (and other parts) on to fix with your big heart and smutty mind. Our hero here, Ciaran Ross, does not disappoint in that regard. I had a great visualization of him as Henry Cavill (Man of Steel version). Ciaran lost someone very important to him and he has been afraid to get close to any one woman since that loss. However he feels an immediate draw to our heroine, Sloan Barrett, and the chemistry between them was fantastic. Ciaran was a dirty talking rough and raw type of lover, and that paired with my visualization of him made this a very exciting read.
Sloane was a likable enough heroine. She comes from family money and has always been made to feel like she was not good enough. I felt sorry for her and had a pretty good connection with her character. Though I really kept thinking that I just wanted to push her off a pier so I could have a go at Ciaran.
If you are looking for something steamy and suspenseful, I highly recommend Killer Curves. I received an advanced copy of this book from Entangled in exchange for an honest review. 5 stars / 4 flames.
I loved this story! It was so nice to read about a woman who was actually an average size ( that's not a size 2 by the way). Sloane has struggled with her size all her life, not because she is fat, but because she is average in a world where average is unacceptable. I completely identified with her and her struggles with all the criticism disguised as compliments ("You have such a pretty face," with the implied...if only you'd lose weight.). Thankfully, there are men out there who love curves. (I certainly found one.) Ciaran is instantly attracted to Sloane when he notices her at their mutual friends' engagement party. She doubts his sincerity since her ex had her convinced she was worthless. She runs like a scared rabbit, but after the latest in a string of malicious incidents is a break in and attack, Sloane turns to her friend's security firm. Surprisingly, Ciaran is a partner there. He is not about to let anyone else protect Sloane, and ends up pretending to be her love interest at her parents' anniversary weekend. Rather than the violence ceasing when they leave town, it increases. Ciaran had his hands full trying to keep Sloane safe and keep his hands off her.
In the meantime, Sloane works toward undoing the damage a lifetime of criticism has wreaked on her self image. She begins to stand up for herself even as she begins to give in to Ciaran. Both of them have issues which keep them over thinking their chemistry. They just need to get themselves on the same page before a killer rips them apart.
There were so many sweet and funny moments in this story. I adored the characters and now need to go back and read book one.
I received an ARC from the publisher through Net Galley for review.
