How the Cow Jumped Over the Moon
I write children's books to help uplift children, especially during these difficult times. Children need good habits, tools and skills to face the challenges they will meet in order to remain positive, happy, healthy, and productive throughout their lives.
As a King Features syndicated author, I have been creating positive and inspirational messages, called "Happy Musings,"for newspapers in the U.S. and Canada for many years. This has led to my writing and illustrating a great number of uplifting books for both adults and children. Along with my writing and illustrating, through the years I have created collections of wallpaper for children, baby bibs, t-shirt designs, and a vast number of prints and original art for children's rooms.
As you can see from the title of this book, it is the fourth in a line of books titled Happy Children's Series This series covers:

In this book you'll meet a very stubborn, bored, and uninspired cow. She is steadfast in her determination not to try something new. Electronic drawing pads and e-books have made it possible for me to create and publish my own books -- and do so in quantity. In the past, Harcourt Brace, Ten Speed Press, Thomas Nelson had only published a few.
The books were always squeezed in between art I needed to do to fill 26 Sally Huss Galleries (my degree was from USC in Fine Art); and licensing demands for clothing, greeting cards (American Greetings), purses, bibs, dinnerware, wallpaper; and the daily King Features Syndicated inspirational panel I do for newspapers called Happy Musings.
Through the years my art and writings have found their way into homes from Hollywood to The White House and perhaps even your house or your mother's.
Along with art, I have had a long history with tennis. In fact I was raised to be a champion (U.S. Junior and Wimbledon Champion, then a semi-finalist in the women's division at Wimbledonin singles and doubles). Later I became one of the top senior players in the country. This experience lead to my writing and illustrating a couple of books on the game -- EIGHT GOLDEN RULES FOR HOW TO PLAY YOUR BEST TENNIS (endorsed by Billie Jean King, Mary Carrillo, Dick Enberg, etc.) and LOVE LADIES LEAGUE TENNIS.
I mostly read the books of the French Philosopher Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov. For me, these present the clearest and most practical explanation of life and man's structure in it that I've come across. These light-filled pages send my heart soaring and give me food for my present work.
Presently I write, illustrate and paint in my Solana Beach, California studio where I live with my husband Marv. I also still play a bit of tennis and walk the beach daily.

"The Cow Jumped Over The Moon," has been a popular story for as long as I can remember and this story is a nice twist to an old story; however, it is a little far fetched!
This story begins with a cow and this cow is bored; funny, I know but so true. I know that many of us wonder how animals are spending their days, and this story shows us the lives of multiple individuals trying to break the cow's boredom.
Finally, in typical fashion, the chicken (ironic, a chicken, I know) helps lead the cow to jump over the moon.

Lovely kids book.
Huss has done it again. A wonderful children's rhyming picture book that gives out a message to all kids, that if they put their mind to it, they can do things they thought they couldn't. Five stars.

love the cow
This is not JUST a book for children: How many of us simply stand in ‘our field’ thinking we don’t know how? And I like Huss’s use of a mixed in rhyme to keep rhythm and story moving right along.

Thanks for a new spin on a familiar tale.
This story maintains its old feel and capitalizes on modern nursery rhymes. Great mix and much fun to read aloud.

Very nice.
Every time I see one of this author's books pop up for free I grab it. Some I haven't liked and some have been okay, but every once in a while she hits the sweet spot and she managed that with this book.

Summary-
This book is about a cow who lives in a pasture and all she does all day is chew and chew on grass and never does anything else even though she says that she is constantly bored. When a different animal invites her to do something with them that sounds like fun for example going swimming or racing to the top of the hill she says that she doesn't know how and that she doesn't want to. She made excuses for every invitation until a chicken invited her to jump over the moon with her. The chicken said that she didn't want the cow to give anymore excuses and that she should just try and try until she got. The cow then agreed to try it because it did look fun but at first she wasn't able to do. The cow never gave up though and was able to jump over the moon and was always wanting to try new things after that.
Themes-
I found two big themes in this book; don't be afraid to try new things and when you do don't give up on the first try. Always keep trying.
Personal response-
This book reminds me of when I was younger and was to afraid to try to new things because I was afraid of failure. Even to this day there are things I won't try because I like to stay in my comfort zone and don't like to go too far out of it. This book also reminds me that when I did try something new and different that I shouldn't give up on my first mistake but to keep trying until I was able to get it down.
Recommendation-

This is a cute story that has an original take on the "Hey Diddle Diddle" nursery rhyme, where the cow jumps over the moon. The cow in this case is content to stand around, chewing and chewing because as she thinks it's what she's supposed to do. Several animals stop by to encourage her to try something new, but she refuses.
Finally, a very persuasive chicken stops by to invite the cow to jump over the moon with her and she won't take no for an answer. Will the cow take a chance and try something new? You'll have to read the book to find out.
The only reason I didn't give it a full five stars is because I would have liked it if the entire book rhymed or didn't rhyme. I think it would have flowed better. But it's still a sweet little story to read to the kids!

Fun with a motivating message

More repetitions of text than the Teletubbies, which should just not be possible, and half the illustrations were just one copy-pasted picture with minor alterations.

July 31, 2016This was an okay little story. My daughter found the graphics, which are very cute, more engaging than the story and we started skipping words here and there to keep the pace up.
