wonderful illustrations with bountiful information
Written just right for children, adults will also enjoy this book. Every question I had, and more, was answered except why (how) sea turtles require so little air? Do we know? A must have for both library and classroom.

It was fun to read about sea turtles with my kids! We all learned something from this book. And the pictures are of real sea turtles....they are beautiful!

I’m stepping out of my usual niche today to promote a nice children’s book that I recently purchased on amazon.com: SEA TURTLES by Kay de Silva. What attracted me to this children’s e-book was the beautiful photograph cover and the fact that my nephew loved turtles as a young boy and still has a special interest in them today. The book has detailed, color photograph images of various types of sea turtles. These images translated well into my kindle fire and page images did not split like they do in some children’s e-books. This book covers basic anatomy, habitat, migration, breathing, eating habits, social life, and much more. All explanations are at mid-level elementary, and in short segments to hold the attention. Even though this was way below my normal reading level, I found that I enjoyed learning about the Green Sea Turtles, Hawksbill Sea Turtles, Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtles, Loggerhead Sea Turtles, Leatherback Sea Turtles, and Olive Ridley Sea Turtles. Now that I’ve learned some basic information about these wonderful creatures, I understand my nephew’s fascination with them. Oh, the conversations we could have had if I had read this sooner! So, I recommend this book along with others in this series to encourage a love and respect for nature’s creatures in your child. There are books on Horses, Dolphins, Whales, Marsupials, Penguins, Tigers, Sharks and even Dinosaurs! So if you have a child in your life with an inquisitive mind, this is a great series for them to read; and my personal recommendation would be to read the books together and use it as an opportunity to build a stronger relationship with your child. Enjoy!

"Sea Turtles: Amazing Pictures and Fun Facts on Animals in Nature" is part of the Our Amazing World Series by Kay de Silva. It is exactly the type of book that my 6 and 8 year old grandchildren love: good pictures, lots of new things to learn, cool new words (carapace, herbivorous, clutch) that are fun to say and to show off, and a conversational style that makes it easy for children to grasp. Early readers that are adventurous will probably need to be supervised as the vocabulary is pretty extensive - they might be able to sound of some of the words, but some may need some explanation, but middle readers who like non-fiction should be able to navigate this easily.
I see this book as an excellent introduction to sea turtles and their importance to the environment as well as a great jumping-off point for many topics. For example, there are several chapters on different varieties of sea turtles that give a parent or teacher an opportunity to expand discussion to geography, and there is a call to action to provide protection for sea turtles.
I read this in the Kindle version. The pictures were surprisingly clear on my Kindle, which is not something I usually find with illustrations, but in black and white. When I opened the book in the Kindle app on my tablet, the pictures are beautifully colored and very clear. I would love it if I could expand the pictures to see even greater detail, but I was grateful to get the beautiful colors.
I look forward to read other of Kay de Silva's series.

I read the Kindle Edition of "Sea Turtles: Amazing Pictures & Fun Facts on Animals in Nature" (Our Amazing World Series) by Kay de Silva is a book about Sea Turtles. Kay gives information on them, their habitats, and way of lives. There are two things she stated, that I do not agree with...
[location 44] "...they have roamed the earth for over 230 million years. They are even older than dinosaurs."
Sorry, but that's not true. I have found with previous books I have read by Kay de Silva, have the same issues regarding how long some things have been around.
[location 129] "These turtles have been around for 100 million years."
-This quote was made about the Leatherback Sea Turtles.
Sorry, but once again, that's not true. They have not been around for 100 million years. How could they when the earth isn't even that old. So if the earth isn't even 100 millions year old, then how on earth [no pun intended] could the world be 230 million? Hmm...something's not adding up Kay...
Other than that, this book was a fun read and was informative on Sea Turtles.

Kay de Silva, has written a book on Sea Turtles which can be used by people of all ages from young children who want to enjoy the pictures, to adults who want to learn something about sea turtles but don't have a lot of time. The information in this book is presented in an easy to read manner, which is helpful to students whether they are in elementary school or college. The wording is simple enough that kindergarten aged children can understand when it is presented to them orally. This book will certainly be enjoyed both at home and at school. Teachers will be excited to share this book with their students, as the information in the book covers all aspects, such as description of various sea turtles, how they help the ecosystem, what they eat and where they live.
I recommend this to all teachers to use in their classrooms. Parents to have at home for their children to learn more. Children who have an interest in learning more about sea turtles. This book will certainly be one that everyone will find useful.

Amazing stuff
The pictures really inspire awe. This book helped me to appreciate the sea turtle. I didn't know they were so valuable to our oceans and our planet. I would recommend this book to all sighted humans.

A basic children's book about sea turtles. The book is broken into sections and each section has usually 2 paragraphs and 1 photograph.
The book could have used diagrams or more photos to help the young reader understand the text better. A table if contents and a glossary are needed.
