The Asset by Anna del Mar sounded so good. It had some of my favorite things in it. Military men being at the top of that list, but sadly for me this was just a mediocre read. I thought it started strong, and grabbed my interest. I liked Ash. I liked his damaged testy self. I thought he was sexy, smart, and sweet under all the gruff. I also liked Lia. I thought she was brave, sweet, and a fighter. But I had a few problems with the book. For one the book really dragged for the fi

'The Asset' by Anna del Mar is book one in the "Wounded Warrior" series.
This is the story of Lia Stewart and Ash Hunter.
Lia has been hiding out in the Rocky Mountain cabin that her older friend had left for her. That friend happened to be Ash Hunter's grandmother. Lia is trying to hid from a very abusive relationship and is on edge all the time. Lia posted a room for rent sign in town for what she was hoping would be a female room mate but Ash shows up scaring her at first. Ash was hurt very b

This book....

What an incredible, complex, sometimes dark, emotional rollercoaster ride.
There was action, suspense, and broken characters trying to heal physically, emotionally, and mentally.

This is the story of Ash (the returning wounded veteran and prodigal son) and Lia, (a woman on the run- hiding from
WOW! What an amazing debut novel! This is definitely not a "nice romance", it is a suspense filled, stunning novel which has has well portrayed characters, a superb, enthralling plot and is a real page turner. It has two central characters who are both suffering from PTSD but for very different reasons. He was a SEAL who had been seriously wounded, both mentally and physically, in Afghanistan. She has had a father killed in front of her then been physically, sexually and emotionally abused befor ...more

Ms. Del Mar’s first novel is fantastic start to a new series. It is emotional and not for the faint hearted as there are some triggers in the book mainly rape, pedophilia and physical and mental abuse among other things. Now I have when involving children so to be honest I skipped that part of the book. I have a vivid imagination so I don’t need that in my life.

Ash Hunter did a hospital break as they were threatening to remove part of his leg due to infection. He lands on Lia’s front doorstep w
The Asset started off strong but after the initial meeting between Lia and Ash it started to fizzle and honestly I struggled to get through the first half of the book. Once the suspense aspect started to pick up I was intrigued but after feeling such a disconnect it was hard for me to really enjoy this one. No star rating for now...

4.5 Stars round up....

I slated this book to be read while I walked on the treadmill. If I wanted to read, I had to walk. I used it as my exercise incentive and it worked. I walked a lot more trying to read this book than I did without the incentive.

I found the plot gripping and intense with characters who totally captivated me.

I really liked both Ash and Lia and was intrigued with their respective stories as well as the building of feelings between them. Their characters were well developed and

I don’t usually read m/f romantic suspense, but the description of this book reeled me in. The heroine –Lia– is hiding out in a small Rocky Mountain town from a deadly cartel, when Ash knocks on her door looking to rent a room. She is damaged on the inside, but he is damaged inside and out by his service in Afghanistan. They recognize something kindred in each other, and a friendship is born. As it turns into something more, all of Lia’s secrets begin to come out, and Ash puts himself on the lin ...more
A surprisingly gripping read, despite the amount of second-guessing involved and the several bizarre dialogues between a rock-solid pairing of a scarred, broken ex-soldier and a woman who has triumphed over a nightmare of a past. Anna del Mar doesn't shy away from the brutality of rape or the violence that women - or of victims in general - face and apart from some questionable actions on Ash's part, this was overall, a solid read that makes me wonder what the second installment already is about ...more

The Asset is a book with an agenda, but it’s an agenda I can get on board with if it’s done right. My father is a disabled vet and I have many friends and family members who are military so wounded warriors are a subject near and dear to my heart. The book showcases what veterans deal with once they get home. Before you read this story, be aware that it is full of some pretty heavy hitting triggers. (view spoiler) ...more

Warning: this book has some seriously horrific scenes that may be triggers, including rape, pedophilia, murder and physical, emotional and mental abuse.

I loved THE ASSET for a lot of reasons, but most of all for the message that people shouldn't automatically discount a wounded vet…once a warrior, always a warrior. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!

Diving into this book, it literally left off of where the synopsis finished. I was unsure how that was going to play out as the author would have to give the characters flashbacks in order for the audience to catch up. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this book. Military romance is one of my favorite genres and it is hard to find really good ones that will stay with you. I could not put this book down and literally debated on why sleep was important. Trying to survive from a deadly past that torments her, Lia Stewart is hiding in a small Rocky Mountain town until, one day, a wounded warrior with a dog shows on her doorstep; a gravely injured SEAL with a heart and soul just as tortured as hers. Against her best judgment, she decides to help him – a kind act that may cost her life.

This was an emotional roller coaster ride for me like no other! I should warn you that this is anything but the nice and sweet romance you may be thinking. It is dark at times and filled with suspense. Lia is on the run and hiding from a man who is not only very dangerous and powerful but also who wants only to hurt her among other things. The asset is super ex-military love story. I loved the writing. I usually miss when there is no H POV but in this book I didn't miss it at all.
Lia story was heartbreaking and I loved how strong and capable Ash saw her. And he did everything in his power to make her even stronger. Lia was amazing prepare to sacrifice herself rather that other person die because of her. The story was simply amazing. I loved how did the author unwrapped the story. Finding a way to help Ash heal from some of his wounds forces Lia to expose far more of her own issues than she is comfortable with, and their burgeoning relationship may have fatal consequences.

Fascinating romantic suspense story, built in a fresh, unique way, giving a different look at the action, and the psychological angle to the terror and dread.
The story is told in the first person, from only Lia's point of view. Usually I'm not a big fan of that way to tell the story, but here it was done in a brilliant way, still giving a full rounded picture of the events, but in a rare way, giving a glimpse into Lia's mind, to the fear, horror she had lived through, to the panic and paranoia s

There are a ton of romance books out there that star a hero from the war coming home in one situation or another. A good deal of them don’t delve into how our servicemen don’t come home in the same condition that they were in when they left. There has been some mention of PTSD, but how it was handled in some books just put me off of finishing them or reading more from that author.
Yeah mental injuries aren’t always sexy, they all aren’t labeled the same way and I applaud the fact that Del Mar sho

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

Lia and Ash are both tormented by the trauma in their lives. Ash from serving in the military and Lia from a crazed man who thought he owned her.

Ash went AWOL from the hospital and showed up on Lia's doorstep to rent a room. They did not hit it off well at all, needless to say. Then she finds out that he is the grandson of the woman who Lia felt saved her.

Wow! What an emotional roller coaster! I had put off reading this for a while since I was unfamiliar with the author and unsure whether I would like it. Once I finally did start reading it though, I was hooked in pretty quick. Ash was pretty gruff, and Lia was pretty skittish, but once they got used to each other they made a nice partnership. Packed with powerful characters that will ensnare your heart by the end of the first chapter, this very suspenseful romance is full of heart, soul, and intelligence.

I give this book 5 hearts

As a reviewer I am sent books without knowing what they are going to be about... I enjoy it that way so every book starts with a clean slate and no preconceived notions.
That said I loved this story, from Lia's love of animals and dark past to her strength in not being a victim when it's so much easier to give up then stand up.

This was a familiar yet surprising story in the hands of Ms del Mar. The runaway with dangerous secrets and the wounded warrior who showed up desperately sick on her doorstep. Even if she doesn’t trust him, she can’t send him back out onto the streets. Plus, he’s the grandson of the one woman who’d taken her in and made her feel at home for the first time in her life. These two combined made a killer book.
Two very tortured souls who come together and somehow come out of it teaching each other how to tryst, love and move toward future

I am not one for "Broken Characters" In fact I wouldn't call these Ash and Lia characters broken at all they were simple amazing to read about.

I enjoyed the fact that Anna Del Mar didn't create instate love or lust she allowed the characters to grow over time getting to connect and grow together. It was head to read the emotional, physical and abuse that Lia goes though. The author was able to paint such a emotional picture the reader will have a hard time letting the characters go.

Anna del Mar blew me away with her writing and words that she so effortlessly bound together.
