Thoughtful...

Boye offers a different perspective than most action-packed zombie thrillers. This first installment of the contemplative series provides readers with a foundation for the next ... which I anxiously await.

Loved it!!!

This is a typical zombie apocalypse story told from the point of view of one surviving woman. It goes along to show how her and her friend make it to a yacht to survive adrift at sea after all the passengers turn and attack them and then they end up crash landing in the United States after they started off in Liverpool. Not after living through a devastating hurricane first of course.

She loses her friend at this point and is left to manage on her own. From here she finds a safe haven and is reunited with her friends, but the main character Rose does not feel safe when the military at the base decides they're going to lure the zombies closer so they can try to reduce their numbers.

She sets off on her own without her best friend and ends up getting a plane ride across the country after surviving a crash landing. I love that the book tells of all the different obstacles and struggles that she has had to witness and survive through and how her luck is amazing for the things that she has managed to live through!

These points that I listed are just a few highlights but definitely keeps you grasped from page 1! Kodi Boye is a super talented author and I vow to read every one of his books. This is my third series of his and I have not been disappointed yet!

Considering this was a free kindle book I found, this was a book that I'm glad I read! While it isn't so original on the whole "zombie's are taking over the world" part, it had some excellent twists and turns, pretty good pacing, and really great writing skills to be honest. I read through the whole thing quite fast because I enjoyed it so much. I also liked that this book is realistic in showing how much trauma a person can go through, and it didn't turn into a sappy romance in the middle (which is fine once and a while but not in every single book) like most do.
It was entertaining, but (Major spoilers!) I think when it is revealed that the events in this book happened in the course of 2 months, it doesn't seem quite right. I mean, from the beginning in her apartment, to the time on the yacht, her time in the lighthouse, her time in the shelter, AND THEN her time on the road, I feel like it was longer than that. Maybe it's just me.
Otherwise, I would say it isn't something that stands out very much, but it was exactly what I was looking for in the genre, and I enjoyed it. For not being that well known, it was better than most other books of it's kind!

Tough to say "unrealistic" when talking about a book about the zombie apocalypse but......

People dont fly from RI to Idaho in a Cessna on a single tank of fuel.

People dont survive plane crashes from 10,000 feet in any plane

People dont learn to use firearms and make head shots on moving targets in a single lesson.

People dont drift across the Atlantic in a week

Give it an extra star if you think good dialog is two woman cursing at each other

Two strong female characters surviving in a zombie apocalypse against all odd; travelling from England to Ireland to America. I feel that Rose had a lot of growing up to do and had many trust issues but I really like the fact that she credits her survival due to her faith. I would definitely like to read the next book in the Daylight Cycle series - Sunrise. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

Pretty typical zombie tale. Ok, but not great.

It was a quick, reasonably good read. Can't say it was a bad book, just really average zombie apocalypse stuff. Happy Reading!!!

Fantastic Book!

First time ever reading anything by Kody Boye and I must say he had me hooked on this book before I even finished the first chapter. I will definitely be reading more of his work in the future. If you haven’t read any of his books all I have to say is try this one because I bet you won’t be disappointed in your choice. Because I tried and I definitely don’t regret my decision in the choice that I made.

First Light was absolutely terrifying! I couldn't put it down, which became a real problem at night. When I'd turn the light off, I found myself hyper aware of any noises. I'm placing the blame for that firmly on Boye's shoulders, because the world he built was so real it was impossible not to become immersed completely.

The protagonists, Rose and Lyra, begin the apocalypse in England. They're best friends living together in the same flat when everything goes to hell. After barely fighting off an assault they decide they have to leave. Even though it's the early days of the virus spreading, it's dangerous leaving. They almost lose their lives but are saved at the last minute by a group of strangers.

Rose and Lyra find themselves on a boat that neither one knows how to pilot. Adrift, they can only hope to come across a friendly country where they can take shelter. Even on the sea their lives are still in peril.

If you're looking for a fast-paced book with well-written characters and a believable world, you NEED First Light. It's a great read!

I really liked elements of the novel, but this roller coaster is almost 5 different books, with a one common protagonist, and just a few shared living characters.
Not for the squeamish, this book graphically and emotionally portrays what it takes to survive a zombie apocalypse. You will not be disappointed right up to the last page.
I do look forward to reading the sequel to this so see where Rose goes next, and what happened to Lyra.
