Never ask Doctor Death to make a house call.

Shelby Cort has fled a big-city police department for sanity and quiet as the sheriff of a small Michigan township.

When dead bodies start to pop up in unlikely places and the killings go unsolved, Shelby comes under attack from the town officials, the media, and even her own co-workers. She finds an ally in the exotic and sexy new Me.

But what Shelby doesn't know may cost her her life. The cool, collected Dr. Ricard de Chaux, who has been filling Shelby's off-duty time with longing and passion, is actually Doctor Death, the new Overlord of the local undead. His top priority is to protect his new charges, even if that means hiding the fact that the killer isn't human. Doctor Death, reluctantly working his way back into human society after years of seclusion, hides one piece of evidence after another.

When the killer goes after Shelby and all of Ric's secrets are on the line, where will his allegiance fall?

I received a copy of this e-book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Shelby Cort has left her job in the city as a police officer after personal scandal She moved to a small town where her Uncle lived. After his death, she was elected Sherriff of the local police force. It wasn't easy for her in a small town where they didn't like change of feel a woman could do a man's job.

Ricard, a vampire, has come to be the Overlord for the 6 vampires that live in the community. His job is to protect them as well as make sure they behave themselves and don't raise suspicion. He is also the new doctor in town and the coroner.

A body has been discovered and the town folks are upset. This body has apparently been there for many years so it is hard to identify. A few months later, another body is found. This body has only been there for about 3 weeks and now the town is not only scared but angry.

As Shelby tries to get clues about the deaths, Ricard must also try to figure out if it was one of his vampires. He hasn't been around long and hasn't really gotten to know them on a personal basis nor has he met any of the rogue vampires that could be in the area.

On top of this, Shelby and Ric find themselves very attracted to one another. Ric doesn't even really like humans but there is something about Shelby and Shelby fears a scandal.

Will they find the killer and the reason?

I had a really hard time liking this book. I felt like the characters were flat and two dimensional. I didn't "feel" the emotion like it was written and that is so vital to the story. Would I recommend this book? I wouldn't tell you "no", I would tell you to read the reviews and make your own decision as this is just my opinion.

Shelby and Ric are not your wimpy star crossed lovers. They are both intriguing, strong and well developed personalities that somehow fit each other. This is a romance for current times with struggle, compromise and disappointment. But the action and mysteries that have to be solved are good and there are a few twists that make this a must-read. I hope we see more of this pair.

It was ok, nothing earth shattering. Vampire romance can be a hit or miss with me, this was just a bit on the stale boring side to me. The idea about the head of the undead being the doc was really interesting. Can not figure out if the ending was a happy ever after or a happy for now I am going with the second choice.

This is a voluntary review via netgalley my thoughts are my own.
