Where to start!? Such an informative book, that answered questions I never knew my mind asked; and gave knowledge I never realised my mind sought. One of my best reads as a child. I'd reread it every holiday, cover to cover. A really wonderful book!
The first-known reference to the "Tell My Why" is a 96-page paperback by Arkady Leokum, published by Scholastic Book Services in 1958, of answers to the children's question "TELL ME WHY?" It was based on the newspaper column "It's Amazing (Tell Me Why)" syndicated by the George Matthew Adams Newspaper Service
Beyond the books, "Tell Me Why" by Leokum later became a literacy and instructional series for use in classrooms, distributed by educational media content producer TMW Media Group Inc. The 31-title, bi-lingual (English and Spanish) series, which includes audiovisual DVD/video, instructional teachers' guides, and teaching strategies to be used in classrooms, are described as fun-filled volumes, "giving informative and easy to understand answers to the many types of questions that children ask about everyday subjects, in a simple and entertaining manner.
My mom got me this book, along with Calvis & Hobbes Lazy Sunday, during a trip to the bookstore. I love her so much for getting this for me because this had been informative. Back in the days before I knew the Internet and Google existed, this was my pasttime.
Because of this book, I know what Esperanto is, and that St. Elmo's fire isn't a supernatural phenomenon based on Filipino horror stories.
