Pop culture and psychobabble tell us to make ourselves the center of the universe in order to be happy. Churches have communicated the false idea that God exists to give us all that we selfishly want. In this book, Max Lucado reminds us that it's not about us, it's all about God. It is through this shift in thinking that we can truly live an unburdened, happy life.

As a Christian, periodically I need to re-read this book because I lose my perspective. So today, I am back into this wonderful book. As a human being, at times, my thoughts are focused on being "Number 1." I'm blinded by my self-centerness which comes out in what I think and say. Lucado's "It's Not About Me" book is a great wake up call, and helps to me to focus on God and His Will. Lucado's writing is easy to read and his stories reveal where you are and also plants, inside your heart, little ...more

There are many times when i want to whine about life being unfair, complain about some circumstance, get a little depressed over some issue, or even get a little concerned when some health issue arises. That's when you need the reminder...

It's Not About Me serves as that reminder nicely. Despite being a New York Times bestseller, Max Lucado does a good job of taking the reader on a journey; stopping first to remind us who God is, then taking the next step to talk about what that means for you an

What a fabulous little book. I was able to read it all in one sitting at Barnes & Noble. This is definitely one that I will want to own, as I can see myself wanting to read it again and again. I just love the way the Max Lucado writes. Simple. Clear. Straightforward. And yet the inspiration just oozes from the pages. There are so many little gems to be found in this book. Great stories and analogies. I love the way he weaves both Scripture and modern day living, inviting us to see how the Bi ...more

This would make a lovely little gift for someone who is interested in developing a relationship with Jesus, or for someone who wants a bit of a shake-up in their perspective of the Christian life, or for someone who feels like they’re drifting a little and would like to get back on track. Or even a quick reminder for yourself of basic principles of living a fulfilled life when walking with God. It is set out in 14 chapters, each quite short (about 7 - 10 small pages) which I felt made ideal pre- ...more

Quick and cheap. A good resource for some small platitudes about humility, but... eh. Between the bad jokes and shallow analogies, there's not much new here.

"If you're looking for a place with no change, try a soda machine. With life comes change."

Really? Oh, thank you Mr. Bearer of Profound Wisdom... aka: common knowledge. I expected more from Lucado, in general. He really could have gone deeper, making this an intense study about how God works through Bible stories and in our lives today. But

Upon picking up It’s Not About Me I ventured that this would be, or at least try to be, one of those cliche and trite inspiring books about how you should live your life. But that was hardly the case after reading less than 10 pages of this book. Having verse after verse to prove his point in many different applicable categories, the author did a great job of doing exactly what I f

In his book, "It's Not About Me", Max Lucado attempts to break us out of our "me-centric" world, reminding us that we are here only to bring glory to God. One of the best analogies he uses in this book is his comparison of humans to a tour guide working at an art gallery. The tour guide is meant to introduce the artwork and bring attention and glory to it but after a bit, he starts taking credit for it, saying thank you. Lucado compares this to humans trying to take center stage in God's art gal ...more

Every book Max writes speaks to my spirit unbelievably. In this book, Max talks about how much our lives should be about being Christ-like, and in seeking God, He shall help us reconcile those who do not know him yet, to know Jesus. Very eye opening, to realize that it is NOT about me, but about what God did for me, and what I can do for others for His glory, in HIS name.

This book is amazing! The font is a great size, which makes for a semi-quick and easily read. Max Lucado tells awesome stories that are totally relevant to the points he is trying to convey. Perfectly humbling book...given the title.

A great book. It inspired me a lot. To live life to honor and glorify God's name. To always remember that life doesn't revolve around us but to God. Yes this is a book worth reading.

I have always loved how Max writes. His examples are to the point and very timely. The parable by the rabbi in the last chapter is very thought provoking. The title is an expression I repeat to my self often. We exist to remind others how God made us great for others. We can't lose sight of that. This book remind us of that fact.

Whenever I read a Max Lucado book, I come away feeling refreshed and clean. That might sound strange, but it probably explains why I have read so many of his books over the years. This book is a pointed reminder that this world is NOT just about us, although we do have an important role to play in it. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.

Even though science has taught us that there are other galaxies beyond ours, that our sun isn’t even the brightest star, and that our existence is just a mere vapor, people still believe that life is about them. It is this belief that destroys families, communities, and even countries. In a society that is me-driven, how do we keep ourselves from becoming self-absorbed and therefore inactive and ineffective believers? Max proposes that when we get to know God through His Word, we can finally see ...more

This is a book that I started reading a couple of years ago, then saw a study guide that goes along with it in a bookstore. I then purchased the study guide with the intention of starting over and really getting into it. I never did. Until now.

Starting at the beginning again, this book is so refreshing! It seems a regular topic lately is how self centered we all are. Everyone struggles with this; after all we are human. We want, want, want, then we take credit when we receive. We hurt others to

I love Max Lucado's series for kids 'Hermie & Friends' and think he is a fantastic author in the sense that he puts across spiritual truths in a simple, uncomplicated manner, but doesn't shy away from big truths. When I was a fairly young christian he was one of my favourite authors.

I don't know what's changed, but when I read 'It's Not About Me' I just couldn't really get into it. It's not that what he said wasn't true or important, it just didn't really stir my spirit the way his books use

I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze®.com book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

This book pretty much seeks to unpack the title and explore the fact that the world does not revolve around me. I am not the be all and end all of the world and nor should I seek to put myself in that position. It does this by, in part 1, dipping in and out of the Bible showing the character of God culminat

This book helped shift my focus from my self to God. He is the center of it all and not me, and surprisingly, that did not make me feel jealous or any other negative things about me not being the center of everyone's focus. it just made me feel that Someone, who is the ultimate center of the universe, has greater control of everything around me and i don't have to be burdened with things i cannot grasp alone with my very little hands. That it's not me who can make me happy with what i can do (wh ...more

This book really didn't challenge me very much, although I believe it would benefit those who have never heard or faced any of these truths before. That is why I rated it as Christianity 101; foundational. I applaud Max Lucado for his good usage of Bible scripture and his ability to bring across to the reader that despite how self-centered; selfish we may still be, God still loves us deeply. Its also a call to find our purpose for living and to rely on God to help change us.

A quick, easy, and necessary read for all Christians, especially in America. This book aggressively confronts the self-absorbed nature that the Church seems to have inherited from the culture in which we live, prodding the reader to return to the gospel's original countercultural roots. However, this is not a theological tome; it is written as many of Lucado's works are - in small, bite-sized, quasi-devotional chunks. Because of this, some might be able to read through and possibly miss the bigg ...more

This book is seriously the best book that I have read in a long time. The title says it all: It is not about us, it is about God. This book really humbled me and made me realize what the true purpose of being a Christian is: to Honor God and show His glory. It is not about us; it is all about Him. I love Max Lucado book's, however so far I think this was the best one so far that I have read. To best describe this book is exactly the way the title says it, "It's Not About Me." There are far greater powers in the world than "My" power. God has the power to choose everything in life that will happen or has happened to each and every one of us at one time or another. With his writings he includes scripture from the bible to make us see that what he writes has valuable information to store in ...more

A book to help re-focus your perspective. The media tells us day in and day out that it is all about us and our flesh is happy to accept that message. But really it is all the eternal God, who amazingly enough loves us. He is the One who deserves the Glory!

The tag line, "Rescue from the life we thought would make us happy" is what caught my attention and prompted me to buy this book. Do you wonder that when you have so much contentment is still elusive? Read about how to re-focus your eyes on t

In this book, you'll learn that your life IS NOT about you and your wants, it's ALL about God and what He wants. This world cannot and will not make us happy, true happiness is found within our relationship with our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

I really wanted to love this book, but I hate to say I was quite disappointed. :(

Most of the book is really just a compilation of scripture, and while nice, I was looking for a bit more. I thought Lucado would put more straight writing rather than Bible verse after Bible verse. I did enjoy chapters 12, 13, and 14, the last three in the book, however, it was a little too little, a little too late. If the entire book had been like those chapters which nicely interspersed scripture with stories an

I had never read a book by Max Lucado until this one. For reading him the first time, I was very happy with the writing style and overall theme of keeping away from selfish thoughts and feelings, putting all your trust in God when things go wrong, as well as keeping away from sin. I look forward to reading more of his books since he is easy to read and quite humorous, yet understands the "I" factor is a challenge for people and it will not happen overnight. Lucado provides much encouragement an ...more
