The romance and action move quickly: everyone’s blood is up under the circumstances. Fans of superheroes will find plenty to like here. There are three kinds of Anomalies: one can slow time for others, another can control people with eye contact, and the third can kill with skin contact. Pretty heavy stuff, no? Relationships and characters develop fast here, sometimes seeming a bit rushed to keep up with all the action. I think the books could be expanded on so we’d get to learn more about the characters. As it is, each story feels like a mini-whirlwind. In Time Thief, Bay North can steal time—slow it down for everyone except herself. She wants to use that ability to steal something important to Gabriel Leven, the crime lord responsible for the death of her parents and little sister. Sean Archer has been sent to apprehend her by Leven, and has been tailing Bay for three months. Once he gets her, though, Leven's men try to kill him. He's livid at this turn of events, and teams up with Bay to get revenge. Sean's hatred of time thieves is based in the slaughter of the rest of his SEAL team overseas. He still hurts, and Bay wants to take his pain away. The romance starts there and goes in fits and starts because Bay considers herself a freak and "no good for anyone." Leven has targeted her because he wants to use her abilities, so she at once considers them a curse and delight to torment Leven with. Watching Sean learn to let go of his hatred is a delight, and watching him trying to teach Bay to live for something more than revenge is raw and affecting. The resolution was a bit odd, as it kept the series going, but it seems like what Bay and Sean did would make their lives harder from here on out. ---- In Mind Raider, Mara Ross is trying to rescue a woman, Cate, from crime lord's Leven’s clutches. Cate can kill with a touch, and Leven likes using people with supernatural abilities to do his dirty work for him. She gets in hot water during an early rescue attempt and Callahan, the leader of a colony of Anomalies, helps her get out of the initial mess. Deciding she needs more resources in her rescue, Cal decides to help her on this mission. Mara's stake in finding Cate is personal, as she was used by Leven at one point for her ability to control minds. Cal intrigues her more as she works with him more closely, and she decides to pursue him despite his reservations. Cal is afraid to let anybody get close because he has trouble living with some of the things he's done. Mara's not very responsive to his orders or rebuffs, managing to stop just shy of being stubborn for stubborn's sake. His capitulation is tender but fraught, as he succeeds in being a pretty frightening guy. The action is spread out in several different raids on Leven, with the interludes developing the more personal parts of Mara and Cal's relationship. We get a bit on the damage that the two of them have sustained emotionally, and what they are running from in their pasts. Although their relationship solidifies, I think they’re going to need some time to work out all their demons. The action scenes are well-choreographed, so I could always follow who was doing what when. ----- In Soul Stealer, Cate Hartmann has been rescued from a crime lord who used her to kill people, but the act is addictive and she’s scared she might steal another’s soul. Doctor Gage Walker is determined to help her recover and join the rest of the world, but are his personal feelings getting in the way of his professional expertise? Both characters are carrying around a bunch of guilt they have to deal with, and the crime lord is still after Cate for nefarious reasons. I like how Cate's struggles are described. She wants to go back to her life as a schoolteacher, but her talent and addiction, plus her wanted status by criminal elements, make that impossible. Her will has been horribly violated and she just wants to feel normal again. However, she can't leave Haven, and she's scared to touch anyone. At first, Gage may feel obligated to help her out because of his own demons, but he manages to coax her out of her shell because he cares about her as a person and love interest. The honesty of his emotions helps Cate try to make a new life for herself. The conclusion is not what I would have expected for this story or the series, but fits in with the idea of not letting your fear or hatred get the better of you and make you a killing monster, which previous characters in the Anomaly books have had to confront. ---- In Salvation, John Brown has only fragments of memory before a strange incident on Haven. Since then, he's worked as a gardener. However, his past catches up with him when he's abducted for experimentation by some criminal scientists. In captivity, he meets Eve, a woman who awakens his body and some of his old memories. They escape together and try to leave their painful pasts behind. While on the run, the two forge a strong romantic connection while John wonders if he can really live as a normal man and love somebody. Salvation is a story about second chances and seems like a coda to the Anomaly series. How much do our past misdeeds define us? Can we really become different people? John's circumstances are unique, but the facility with which others cut him some slack seems a little optimistic. Nonetheless, the ultimate message of the Anomaly series is one of hope: we can find more solace in the world if we are willing to let go of our nursed hatreds and past fears.
The Anomaly series by Anna Hackett Time thief Bay North’s family was murdered cold blooded and now she was a time thief in search of revenge. Gabriel Leven had destroyed her world and she would destroy his. But she had become the prey of a hunter hired by Leven. Sean Archer was looking for revenge because of his murdered team by a time thief. He had been tracking Bay for four months and was ready to catch her. But when he learned the truth about her and his employer helpless rage choked him. He had been a Navy Seal Commander and felt that he had failed his men. Now, he was not alone. Everything had changed for both of them. They had a goal in common and together were going to go after Leven. Very good story full of action and suspense. Liked the characters, the good chemistry and how the author developed the plot. Caught my attention to the series immediately. Mind Raider Mara and Callahan were both mind raider but Cal had more to hide. His time with the CIA had left him with a totally change in his life. Now, he was the leader in Heaven, the sanctuary for the anomalies and he considered himself a monster that don’t deserve love. When he and Mara went on a rescue mission because a soul stealer, Cate, was kidnapped by the evil Leven (still pursuing the anomalies), Cal told Mara the truth about himself and things seemed to change between them. She too saw him as a monster. Besides the suspense, the intrigue, violence and sex scenes, in this book the characters dealt with deep emotions and their need to heal and be comforted. Good pace, dialogs and scenes. Strong hero and heroine with defined personalities. The author made me visualize the action and kept my attention to the details that were intriguing. Soul Stealer Cate was rescued but still she was dealing with her addiction to her soul stealer power. Dr. Gage Walker was the one designed to help her overcome the harm that Leven did to her. But he felt attracted to Cate and was struggling between his attraction and the knowledge that she was very dangerous to they all. Cate almost succumb to the guilt that was destroying her but with the help of Gage, who was dealing with his own demons, they were to discover the mystery behind Leven’s pursue of Cate. This book gives answers. Intrigue, suspense and hot sex here concentrate in Cate and Gage. No time to be boring. The end left me thinking. Love this series. Salvation This last book in the Anomaly series was about a second chance. At the end of Soul Stealer Cate almost stole all Gabriel Leven’s soul and he changed he changed. The evil part of him left and in his place there was John Brown, a man who didn’t remember his previous evil exploits. Still, Heaven residents treat him with caution because of his past. While helping Cal with some duties he was kidnapped and found himself chained in some place. Also, there was other prisoner, Eve, a woman who had powers and were been tested. They joined forces to escape and fight their captors who seemed to know about his past. This is the book where the bad, evil guy shows his inner good and had an opportunity for the best. I was glad that after all that was told about Leven’s tortuous childhood he had a chance to change and have some real happiness not based on power. Smart how the author mentioned the childhood in the others books because I think she what preparing the reader to accept and feel compassion for John Brown. Love how the authors play with the reader emotions. Make me feel part of the story. Enjoyed the Anomaly series a lot and highly recommend it. Received the ARC for an honest review.
Bay is a time thief, she can slow time around her to get out of sticky situations . The story begins with her breaking into a bank vault. She recognises one of the people in the bank as the guy who has been on her trail. However much she might think he's a handsome guy, he works for arch-enemy and there is no way she will hand herself over into his clutches.
Sean is a former SEAL, and working for the guy chasing down Bay. He has been told that Bay and her kind were responsible for the slaughter of his team in the Middle East and he'll hunt her to the ends of the earth. But when they come together he learns that he has been fed lies and they decide to work together.
The writing had a great pace and flowed along well and the characters were believable. I loved who we saw that there are other types of"supers" out there and can't wait to read their stories.
Mind Raider
Mara, Bay’s former roommate is right on the tail of Leven and attempting to save a soul stealer, Cate. But when the trap she set goes pear shaped, Havens enigmatic leader, Callahan, rides to the rescue.
We learn more about the uber mysterious Cal and more of the anomaly ability variations. I love these books, They read like your favourite action/romantic comedy! Before you know it your near the end and trying to stretch out that last chapter!!
Cal is tortured, super protective of his haven and his people and with a need for a mate but willing to sacrifice his happiness if he thinks she's better off without him.
Mara tends to act now and think later, so the perfect counter to Cal's super planning! I was a tad disappointed when the bad guy lived another day, but now that I've read all 4 books I get why it had to be that way!!
Fab read!
Soul Stealer
Cate, a soul stealer, is in a detox programme at the Haven. Now she has been rescued from Leven she has to try to break the addiction he gave to her of stripping people of their souls.
Gage is one of the doctors on the island and trying to help Cate get back the person she once was, the one who taught small children and didn't steal souls for a criminal mastermind. But he has his own shameful past with experimenting on anomaly's and also feels a burning attraction to Cate.
Will they uncover Leven's master plan and his reason in pursuing Cate.
There is no let up in action and romance in this penultimate episode. You will be amazed at their novel solution to their problem and revel in their ability not to become what Leven is!
Salvation
Final foray in the Anomaly series. Salvation is such a novel idea, the bad guy gets a chance at redemption!
When Cate removed almost all of Leven’s soul, he was left a changed man. Now using the name John he is happiest tootling about in the Havens gardens and watching the children play. His spirit and mind are at rest finally. The community still treats him with caution but he is no threat to them. When Cal gives him enhanced duties on the mainland, he gets himself kidnapped and waked to find another prisoner, Eve. They manage to escape but not after some experiments are carried out on John and hints are left that they know just who he WAS.
Be prepared to come to love John with as much passion as you hated Leven!!!! Your emotions will be through a wringer but you will leave knowing that all is well in the world!
This set of books/stories for me were pretty good & I say that because this series to me was more of a paranormal romance kind of set than a Sci-fi romance set.
Even though all the characters in these stories had special abilities & were used by evil people as experiments they didn't have the sci-fi vibe. They all were on Earth in the future but, they never left Earth; if even a portion in these books had them leave Earth to go & live on another planet, in a different galaxy or universe then maybe I would call this set of books sci-fi romance.
As it maybe just this series I'm willing to try another series by this author to see if they are as good as another author that I think writes excellent sci-fi romances.
Time Thief - features BY North who is the time thief trying to find a way to get her revenge on the man responsible for experimenting on her. Sean Archer is a former military man who unfortunately at the time was hunting Bay to take her back to the person who had captured her in the 1st place. But, once Bay told him who he was really working for & that that man was also the person who killed his team he helped Bay escape.
Mind Raider - features Mara Ross who was at one time had also been captured by the same man as Bay & works for a group named Ha'ven that gives sanctuary to all of the anomalies. Callahan is the head of this group & he had volunteered to be experimented on while he was also in the military & he has many more powers that just the average anomaly.
Soul Stealer - features Cate Hartmann who once was a school teacher until she was also captured by the same evil man that the other women were; only he forced her to kill people for him. Dr. Gage Walker at 1 time was 1 of those scientists that experimented on the anomalies until his brother died & he didn't want to be in that line of work anymore & escaped with Callahan. Gage now works at Ha'ven.
Salvation - features the evil man who used to try & capture everyone to experiment on but, Cate wiped his memory of that life & he now works at Ha'ven as a gardener. Eve Myles is an anomaly that John meets after he was captured by another mad man & was experimented on; she also has more than 1 ability too. John becomes a Time Thief & helps Eve escape. They are chased by the other mad man & his men but the couples that are mentioned in the previous stories along with some of their security team come & save them both.
Each story has plenty of sex scenes & some romance; some action & the good vs bad vibe but overall to me this series was a pretty good paranormal romance set.
The Anomaly Series is a collection of four books about persons who have powers that are more than human due to a genetic anomaly. The first book is Time Thief. Bay North can stop time and move through that time slip. It starts with Bay in a bank to rob Gabe Leven of a ruby necklace. Just as she stops time, she sees that a crew of Leven’s men have arrived to capture her. Gabe Leven is trying to find a process to make an army of Anomalies to take whatever he wants. A crime boss who has no soul and experiments on any Anomaly he can capture. The leader of the crew is Sean Archer, an ex-SEAL who never quits. He has become obsessed with Bay since the first time he set out to capture her and with each chase, he comes closer and closer to having her in his grasp. This time, he won’t fail.
In the second book, Mind Raider, Mara Ross (a friend of Bay’s) is trying to save another Anomaly, from captivity. Leven has captured and is using a Soul Stealer to do his own brand of torture to obtain what he wants. She is too late to get to Cate but is herself almost captured until Callahan arrives just in time to keep her from death or capture. He takes her to his island stronghold, Haven, and together they plot the rescue of Cate Hartman. Along the way Mara and Cal spar and match wits.
Soul Stealer is the third book. Cate Hartman is recovering and trying to come to grips with her Anomaly. Once a teacher she can’t trust herself to not hurt those around her. Gabe Walker is the Haven’s doctor and a scientist that at one time worked for the CIA to enhance and create Anomaly for the governments use. He and Callahan now work to reverse the effects of the Anomaly gene and give those with the gene a place to live in safety and peace. But Gabe Leven isn’t giving up his twisted dreams of having all the power in the world and won’t leave Cate and Haven alone.
In the final book, Salvation, John Brown is a human living a quiet but lonely life on Haven. He and Cal go to mainland Australia to retrieve supplies and he is captured. He wakes in a lab and realises he is not alone. A team come into the lab and begin administering a drug to him as one of the guards begins beating a woman held in a cage. Eve Myles and John escape when John unknowingly stops time. Then the chase is on across the Australian Outback. Heading north in hope of finding civilisation, the pair are dogged every step of the way.
I purchased the books individually, but having all the stories in the series together in one set is wonderful! I highly recommend these stories! Each of the stories are tied together with a HEA at the end of each story.
Time Thief: While I wished the story was longer, it didn't feel incomplete. There was action and steamy romance (not explicit). The heroine was strong and independent, but was really touched by someone wanting to care for her. The hero was alpha, but wasn't dominating.
Mind Raider: This has a lot of action, supernatural abilities, and steamy romance. Both the hero and heroine are strong characters and together they are even more powerful. This rescue mission makes for exciting reading.
Soul Stealer: For a short story, this is packed with action, supernatural abilities, and steamy romance. The story moves along quickly and there really isn't a boring part. The heroine has much to overcome and she does, thanks to our hero.
Salvation: This makes for a wonderful end to the series! I was unsure how Ms. Hackett was going to make the villain from the first three books worthy of having a heroine for himself, but she did it! The heroine is amazing and deserving of a happy future after all she has endured and she is just the one for our villain turned hero.
This four book set contains the complete Anomaly series. Each book features a different couple and has an HEA within an overarching storyline. The series is about anomalies, humans with special abilities to stop time, control minds, steal souls, or even a combination of the three. Gabriel Leven is a human psychologically twisted by his past who is intent on raising an army of anomalies by following in the steps of Nazi scientists who studied those born with the abilities and then engineered them by changing the DNA of humans. Leven now kidnaps born anomalies and experiments on some, while forcing others to torture and kill for him. Callahan, a born anomaly genetically modified by the CIA to become a weapon, escaped them and created Haven, a refuge, in Australia. Gage Walker, a doctor who helped him escape, helps him with Haven. These books feature the two men and the anomalies they come in contact with and give safe haven to as their enemies try to take them for their own personal gain. Copy received in return for an honest review.
I just love Anna Hackett and these stories do not disappoint. They are full of action, suspense, lust, redemption and of course love. They are full of heroes and heroines with special talents (that they often view as challenges)who cooperate to persevere and make it through the bumps on the road with love in their hearts. This is a great set of quick reads that you absolutely must add to your TBR list.
I received an ARC of this set from the author in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and words contained here are entirely my own.
Four books one great price ! It is the complete Anomaly series, I could not put this set down, there just was not enough hours to read at one sitting which is what I would have done!Gabriel Leven is a very twisted human he is kidnapping people born with anomalies and turning them into his own personal army. Callahan a born anomaly and Gage Walker are the main people ,each story features a different anomaly couple. I was given a copy for an honest review barwatts@telus.net
Reviewed Anomaly Series Box Set product rating stars From time thieves too soul stealers. December 01, 2015 This is a very good box set. You get to meet different people with different powers and all at different levels. The heroes in book 1 appear in the other books as well. I enjoyed the stories from start to finished.
I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review.
This book is four books in one Great Book. I absolutely love this series. There is action, adventure and romance in each book. I absolutely love this series. Anna Hackett can tell a story that will make you stay up way past your bedtime, because you can't stop reading. These four stories are all fantastic and if you like para-normal and romance, this is for you.
I really enjoyed each story in this box set. The Anomaly concept was interesting and added great elements to each story. I especially liked the last tale of redemption. Great series!
I did not enjoy this. I only read the first one in the trilogy. I got it for a good deal on Amazon, but just didn't care much for this one. I found the characters very flat and uninteresting.
The attention to detail and character development is one of Anna Hackett's gifts to readers. Her words have the power to take a person totally into the book.
