Rumpelstiltskin is a tale of an imp who wanted a child so bad. He tried to take advantage of the Miller's daughter. Her father lied that his daughter could spin straw into gold and when the king captured her an unlikely little man appeared who could actually spin straw into gold. The king was very greedy and told the young lady that if she could spin straw into gold he would marry her. The millers daughter got sent to the kingdom to mill straw into gold. She couldn't do that but a little man could. She gave him her necklace, ring, and her first born child in the place of the straw gold. She got married to the king and had a baby boy, but the strange man said if she guessed his name correctly she could keep the baby. Did an adaptation of this story as children's theater in college 1987. I was a written in character "Wanda the Witch". Very cute & fun.
