A charming man could be the icing on one chubby woman's cupcake.

Mandy likes her life. She's happy. She has great friends, a good job, a happy life. She has it all, even if it comes with a few extra pounds. But Mandy doesn't mind. She knows who she is and she likes cupcakes too much to worry about the weight.

But a stroke of luck, and a phone call to her customer service j

So, I'm not totally without bias here.

This is a BBW that's not 35 pages.
This is a BBW that's not just a total fuck-fest.
This is a BBW that centers around body and self-esteem issues.
This is a BBW that has a full series of curvy friends.

Without reading a word, I'm already loving it. Full-length (or at least non-novella/novelette length), steamy with plot and good characterization and full of body angst is the recipe to make me happy and this book had it. This is exactly what I want to read in a

I am very happy that this book was free, because I would have been extremely upset to have paid for it. I love reading romances, even the bad corny ones, its fun to laugh with friends over them. This one, however, exceeded the bad/good threshold and landed firmly in the "just bad" zone. Where to begin with it? There were so many problems. The spelling errors and corny dialogue aside, the characters themselves were just so unlikable and insufferable. I finished the book because it was short and I ...more

This was really a zero star book for me and I'm going to tell you why.

I love books about fat women doing their thing, living their lives, and getting the man (or woman) of their dreams. I live for this. This is my life, you feel? What I am not here for is fatphobia towards men, "casual" homophobia, and putting down other women to lift yourself higher. Not into it and this story is full of it.

Here's the deal: You cannot write a story about how fat bodies deserve love and respect and then have l

I downloaded this free & told myself why not. I've always been plus size & love a romance about chubby girls. This is Mandy & Xanders story. A lot of trust issues takes place between both since Mandy doesn't think anyone as good looking as Xander would fall for a chubby girl like her.

This is a quick read, lots of misunderstandings & growth to take place between two people that just needs to learn to trust one another.

I enjoyed Mandy and Xander.

Mandy has spend her whole life overweight. She has learned to embrace it. She figured there was no hope of ever finding a man. But she had her three best friends and life was good. Working for an insurance company she only had to talk on the phone. Nobody had to see her. She loved talking to people and this gave her the anonymity to never be judged by her size. Until the day Xander Carlson called. The man with the sexy voice and man could he flirt. Xander wanted to meet that person behind that b ...more

For Fat Girls

To write a book like this, the author had to have lived a fat life at some point. The feelings, thoughts, and emotions cannot be faked by a thin person. I've had all of them myself. This book is well written and easily believed. It draws the reader into the story and keeps her (or him) totally engaged. I've laughed and I've cried right along with the main character and the others. I highly recommend this book to anyone, but especially to us larger than the average person. Congratula

I had mixed feelings while reading this book. I like that Mandy feels she's confident and content with being overweight and doesn't feel that she needs a man to make her feel complete and happy. That of course, is before she meets Xander. By the end of the book I was just ready for it to be over.

This was a highly charged sexual erotica, that happens to be a BBW (Big Beautiful Woman) book. Yet, you have a real story of a woman who has a problem even looking at her own body let alone thinking about a man seeing it. That she never thinks of it.
This woman, Mandy Ryan, is happy and content with her life. Yes, she would like a partner to share it with along with her own family but can’t see that anytime soon. She has a great job, as a customer service rep for an insurance company. She is e

This is just the kind of thing I am looking for in my chubby-heroine books: insecure (but not doormat) heroine, supportive hero, misunderstandings and angst, overheard insulats and Mean Girls. In fact, it was a little too perfect, almost heavyhanded in driving home certain points. As a fat woman, I have definitely had people be rude to me, but the shear amount of constant, intense hostility from basically all the women who aren't in the heroine's friend circle seemed a bit much. Also, two compla ...more

I love this story! Mandy is overweight, but she is happy. She has a good life, good friends, a good job, and a nice home. She and her three best friends enjoy each other's companionship, and she is content with that. Then in comes Xander. Gorgeous, sweet, kind, and he wants to be with her! She doesn't get it. Why? He could have anyone he wanted. Can she trust him with her heart? Time will tell.

I love the characters in the story. Mandy and her best friends have good and kind hearts, but v

Three stars but only because there were many grammar and spelling issues. That is a huge pet peeve of mine, but I did enjoy the story.
Xander and Mandy were two believable characters. I am not overweight like Mandy but I could relate to her issues with self image, thinking the hot guy wouldn't want her. I didn't know what to think of Xander at first. It took me a while to warm up to him. I liked his family hated his friends, except his best friend. Considering this is a seri

This story had so much potential but fell short for me. The description says that Mandy doesn't mind how her body looks but all of her interactions with Xander just show how insecure she is with herself. She is only comfortable around her chubby friends and only confident in the job that she does well. She acts like a total witch to Xander and I honestly don't know how he put up with her and I really got tired of her constantly viewing him as a sex object. Xander was a little too perfect - loves ...more

My Favourite book of the year

What a fabulous book. My favourite book that I have read so far this year. The writing style just pulled me in and I couldn't put it down. Society has very warped views of beauty and what it should look like. Real beauty comes from within and gorgeous comes in all different shapes and sizes. The author captured this idea perfectly and had strong themes of family and friendship which I loved. I received a free copy of this book by signing up to the newsletter and wil

Let the series begin!

Mary E. Thompson has a nice easy style to her writing. I was hoping this book would give women, struggling with any kind of body issues, a safe place to return and feel accepted. As a rom -com, it was cute and sexually raw, but I found myself getting tired of Mandy's whining. She wasn't trusting of Zander at all. I did not feel any growth in the main character, but I realize the book only spanned a few months, not many years. Hopefully, with Zander's love and reassurances, M

I really wanted to love this book. Being a big girl myself I was excited to sit down and read about a curvy girl for once finding her happy ever after but all I wanted to do was reach through my kindle and smack Mandy. I had to force myself to finish the story. I found Mandy to be too insecure almost to the point of being down right bitter. The whole story seemed to focus on her weight. I felt bad for Xander and him always having to defend himself and his feelings for her. I only gave it tw

Wow, great book! I've never read anything like it. It's great to hear a story from a point of view such as Mandy's. It's amazing to think of the confidence she had while on the phone but in person, it was a different story. It shows what it's like and what girls that are a little larger have to go through, not just on the outside, but on the inside. Being teased can scar a person for life. Everyone should read this romance to help them see that larger people are beautiful inside and out and to r ...more

Chubby & Charming is my first book by Mary E Thompson. I liked it. Ms Thompson has given us a fun read. The characters are fantastic and fit this book perfectly. Xander and Mandy's story is loaded with drama, humor, sizzle and a dash of suspense. I enjoyed reading Chubby & Charming and would be happy to read more from Mary E Thompson in the future. Chubby & Charming is book 1 of the Big & Beautiful Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hange ...more

It was so refreshing to see the characters in this book were so real, not all stunning and perfect. These amazing women are beautiful to their souls, not just skin deep. The pain and the passion come through in equal measure, the emotions raw and heart wrenching. I have been both the thin girl and more recently, the chubby woman so I can appreciate the different way each is treated. A book to inspire hope.

If you have ever been that person that feels you are judged by your looks, great book for you. But, if you are that person that makes others feel as if they do not fit into your "status", you too should read this book. Go ahead and judge people by their appearance, but read this book to get the idea of how your judgement makes others feel.
Just because we do not fit what you or others think are normal, really is none of your business. Think before judging!!!!!!!!!!!

Good story for the genre. I liked Mandy and Xander, but I would have liked to see them more fully developed with interests, hobbies, and background, which would have made them more interesting. I admit, I'm not much for a romance only story; I like it blended into a strong plot, such as a mystery. However, that being said, I still enjoyed the story. If you're a fan of romance, then give this as try.

Emotionally moving!

This is a wonderful book has a good story line, spicy HOT scenes, and the whole gammet of emotions weaved in. It's nice to find romance stories about BBW that get the hot sexxy hunks. This is one of those stories. Most of the time I was smiling, laughing or feeling the heat. And yes at points getting irked or wanting to cry. I would totally recommended this to anyone who likes a good heart warming, and steamy, story.

I'd be losing if I didn't say I found the title a bit offensive. Chubby is only a good descriptor for babies. But I'm always looking for characters i can relate to. The book is set in Western N.Y. I live in Western N.Y. Bonus! Mandy has pretty extreme self image issues. Cancer is too perfect. But the book has good flow and I'm hoping the writing will improve as the series goes on. I saw a lot of potential so I purchased the rest of the series already!

Did not finish

I really wanted to like this book.I am chubby myself so I love books that cover this topic but this girl needed therapy. She had zero self esteem and was constantly talking about her weight. I like when the heroine embraces her body and knows she's awesome despite not being in a single digit size. It may have become better but I grew so annoyed that I didn't finish and that is very unlike me.

Loved it

Loved, loved, loved this book. I could relate to the characters, they were well developed and down to earth. The whole work place drama with side of the book was a wonderful contrast to the romance side. I do wish there had been more of Xander's pov (not just when he as with Mandy) maybe more of him and Drew interacting. All in all it was a good book and I'll read more.

Big girls rock

I could actually relate to Mandy. I have been the big girl to loose a job because of the skinny bitch. These books are so good. You see the beauty through the males eyes. I need to find this town. Hot open minded men wanted. Accepting applications. Ha ha. Seriously read and find out what the fuss is about.

This is a sweet story of Mandy finding her perfect man. Mandy thinks that because she is not skinny that Xander will not find her attractive, but he is not the man she thinks and he is out to prove that he is worthy of her. A great story with true friends who always have your back and a belief that cupcakes can save the day.

Patience is key

I absolutely could relate to Mandy. She was content and accepting of her life and Xander came and offered something she didn't want to acknowledge she was missing. The people felt real, and his patience with her was so endearing. I've already bought Claire's story.
