Xavier Dorison est né en 1972 à Paris et passe trois années en école de commerce, où il organise le festival BD des Grandes Écoles, puis travaille chez Barclays Corp. Dès 1997, il écrit le premier tome du Troisième Testament, série co-scénarisé et dessiné par Alex Alice qui remporte un succès immédiat. Il publie ensuite deux séries aux Humanoïdes Associés : Prophet avec Matthieu Lauffray et Sanctuaire avec Christophe Bec. Il co-scénarise, avec Fabien Nury, le film Brigades du Tigre, qui sera également adapté en bande dessinée aux éditions Glénat avec Jean-Yves Delitte au dessin. Il co-scénarise, toujours avec Fabien Nury, le western fantastique W.E.S.T. mis en image par Christian Rossi. Et lance début 2007 une fresque pirate : Long John Silver. En 2008, il crée la série Les Sentinelles et participe au projet XIII Mystery, en scénarisant l'album sur La Mangouste. En 2008 également, il écrit Le Syndrome d'Abel pour son comparse Marazano, de retour au dessin. En septembre 2010, il s’associe à nouveau avec Alex Alice et commence la publication de l’antésuite du Troisième Testament, intitulée Julius, toujours chez Glénat. En mars 2012, paraît chez Dargaud le premier tome d’Asgard, série dans l’univers des vikings, dessinée par Ralph Meyer. En 2013 paraîtra chez Glénat une série coécrite avec son frère Guillaume Dorison.

The story hadn`t the same strong points as the first volume, but it`s setting up nicely for some further adventures. I`m not a big fan of westerns, but the style and the graphic of this novel had me hooked up from the begining to the end.

First off, can we get a moment to appreciate the amazing cover?

This 2nd volume concludes the 1st arc of the story.

This is seriously one of the most dense narratives I read in a while, and I'm not exactly talking about the amount of text balloons, that is pretty much the same as most French-Belgian books. No, I'm talking how much details and information each dialog has to the point that if you don't pay good attention you'll get lost in the story.

That, by itself, is not a bad thing, it just shows how ambitious the plot is but the writer still manages to pull it through amazingly well. That said, I think some breathing room would've been nice.

Overall, an amazing wild west experience.

Plus 3,5 que 3 mais je ne sais pas, j'avoue que j'ai un peu moins aimé ce tome que le précédent. Les personnages sont toujours aussi attachants mais j'ai trouvé l'histoire très hâchée et j'ai eu du mal à suivre le rythme. Malgré tout, un série que je recommande et dont je suivrai les prochains tomes avec plaisir.

Story does not make a whole lot of sense at this point. And it gets to the stereotypical part really quick. Dark handsome humorous dangerous man with a past and a heart of gold, strong-willed woman that looks vulnerable at first. Art is great though. Won't continue with the series, which is too bad because it had a promising start.

I was disappointed that volume 1 ended in an unfortunate cliffhanger but damn, the creative team really stuck the landing on this arc’s conclusion. Also improved we’re the 3 main characters’s arcs/development.
This is shaping up to be an excellent western, the art and colours are so good too, perfect for the genre.

Mais um Western e talvez para se afastar claramente das convenções do género, desta vez o protagonista principal é um cangalheiro (gato-pingado na gíria), o que obviamente é bastante estranho para “herói” já que habitualmente é a personagem menos carismática e apreciada que se pode encontrar nesta época (provavelmente em todas, mas principalmente nesta). Ainda por cima, o seu companheiro é um abutre (detalhe que considero não tão bem conseguido já que nada acrescenta e parece apenas acentuar a inverosimilhança).
O argumento é de Xavier Dorison e a arte gráfica, de excelente nível, é de Ralph Meyer.

Os ciclos/aventuras englobam habitualmente 2 albuns, sendo este o segundo deste ciclo e encerrando-o. Em termos de argumento esta continuação está abaixo da 1ª parte com episódios desnecessariamente forçados e pouco verosímeis. Felizmente em termos de arte gráfica continua em grande nível, nomeadamente a capa que é excelente.

The second volume concludes the first story arc and again you get what you came for; a hard boiled western with bad boys, beautiful but equally bad girls and heavy shooting. Dorison always sourround himself with the best artist that are arround in the french-belgian connection, so expect beautiful drawn deaths in the hot desert sun of the wild west! A third volume with a new story should be ready soon, so there is more to come from the bloody Undertaker and his companions. Sounds good to me.

Jonas, Rose et Lin tentent d'échapper à leurs poursuivants afin de réaliser le souhait de leur client. Cependant, Jonas risque d'être surpris par ses compagnes...

Un tome un peu en dessous du précédent car étant une course poursuite permanente. L'ensemble reste cependant sympathique à suivre et clot le diptyque. La fin permet de lancer de nouvelles aventures pour le trio qui s'est constitué durant ces deux albums.

Цей альбом завершує першу арку, і він ще більш похмурий. Переслідувані оскаженілою від жаги золота ордою, головні герої борються за успіх своїй місії і не роблять один одному жодних поблажок. Вони, хоч і не з однакових причин, але мають спільну рису, а саме - рішучість у досягненні своєї мети. Ескалація, що почалася в попередньому епізоді, посилюється. Трунар і його супутники не мають ані хвилини спокою. Шахтарі переслідують їх, немов мисливці дикого звіра. Насильство сидить у них глибоко всередині. Спокуса наживи поступово призводить до того, що вони втрачають будь-яку людяність і раціональність. Ця експоненціальна еволюція майстерно виписана авторами і відіграє велику роль у привабливості сюжету. Позитивний фінал бачиться все більш і більш неможливим у міру розгортання подій. Іноді здається, що герої біжать у глухий кут. Це непоправне відчуття руху до фатального результату робить читання захопливим.
У цьому альбомі смерть всюди: від трупа, що смердить падлом, до кровожерливих божевільних, що переслідують героїв. «Танок стерв'ятників» вражає послідовністю нічних сцен і, як і його чудова обкладинка, насиченим червоним кольором, що нагадує і про спеку, і про кров. Хоча історія відбувається на відкритому повітрі, тут мало світла, стежки вузькі, а скелі нависають усюди і розчавлюють героїв, як у прямому, так і в переносному сенсі.
Насамкінець, «Танок стервʼятників» - це майстерне завершення першої арки. Тут немає жодної нудної миті, навіть навпаки! Повороти і темп подій не дають нам часу перевести подих і дозволяють відчути постійну боротьбу героїв зблизька.
Чи є в другому альбомі якісь негаразди? У фінальній сцені в копальні впадає в око неприродність того, що відбувається. Так, у реальності таке майже неможливо, але наші герої перебувають на сторінках мальопису, а тут, як і в кіно, можливо все.🤠

There was quite the cliffhanger in the previou one, and the writers and artists really tie up the bag here nicely and neatly, with a few twists that I truly enjoyed!

Also, is this a goth western? What with the undertaker, his black horses and his pet vulture?!? Must be!

Anyway, the two ladies from the previous story were more fleshed out in this one, and when I'd gotten half way through I was annoyed with them... But come the ending I LOVED them! It's not a thick comic book, but it managed that twist for me at least! Can't wait to see what they'll do with them in the next book!

And the main character, the Undertaker himself, well... He is still a bit of a mystery, but there's been a few more hints on who he is and where he got his skills from. Very much a survivor, but with a core of fairness and... dare I say it... kindness? He is quickly becoming another favorite fictional character of mine! He has a very dry macabre sense of humor that I REALLY enjoy! Also a hint of the goth western thought there, because he kinda acts like an amused goth at times.

Yeah, a great part two! Truly recommend!

This is for first two albums that form closed storyline:

Undertaker comes to small mining city to take care of burial for local mine owner who is still alive at the time... Main protagonist is funny, little bit crazy, firing precise deadly shots as well as one liners. Hiding from the past and preaching from made up Bible, he soon come to conflict with locals, leaving few more bodies to burry. On the other hand, he is not macho man who gets through everything, many times ending on his knees wounded, saved only by luck and interference of others.

I cannot say I love western, but I liked most of the movies and comics set in this era and this one is no exception. Characters are well written, they have to find how to get along while running from pack of crazy miners and survive, while dealing with they personal scars.


Only downside was whole hostage/Lin motivation, which didn't felt very thoughtful, but besides that, it was very enjoyable.

The adventure continues where we left off, with some fun action, decently interesting characters, great art and coloring. Undertaker is more parodic than other stuff I read from Xavier. The characters are more over the top and one dimensional. It’s a bit difficult to get into though, because it is mixed with serious scenes as well. It feels like the picture the creators had for it maybe wasn’t very clear. Still, an easy recommend and I’ll read til the end

Je ne sais pas pourquoi, mais j'ai beaucoup moins aimé ce tome que le premier, qui avait été un coup de cœur. Les personnages sont toujours aussi loufoques et les dessins tout autant à couper-le-souffle. Mais j'ai eu plus de mal à suivre l'action et je l'ai trouvé moins haletant que le premier tome. C'est tout de même une série que j'adore et dont j'attendrai les prochains tomes avec impatience!

Si vous recherchez des dialogues crues, des scènes avec des rebondissements inattendus, des personnages aussi intriguant les uns les autres, ce nouvel opus est pour vous! Une belle façon de rendre un véritable hommage aux westerns américains tout en réinventant le genre. L'atmosphère est très tendue, mais soyez assurés que vous ne serez pas déçu du dénouement de ce tome (c'est percutant).

Me agrado, pero el primer tomo me pareció mejor. No me agrado que los mandatos morales se conviertan en lo que moviliza la historia. Sin embargo, me fascina el personaje del enterrador. Además, el dibujo es increíble. Está lleno de detalles y los paisajes desérticos son increíbles. Se nota el cariño del dibujante por el spaguetti western. Se lleva sus 4.4 estrellas.

Ce deuxième tome il est juste trop bien ! Au delà de clôturer l'intrigue commencé dans le premier il nous relance sur les prochains tomes, avec une nouvelle équipe et le perso principal. J'ai trouvé l'hôtel très bien fait. Si vous aimez les westerns, celui-ci est un MUST.

The characters are complex and the storyline kept me guessing. I was not sure how it would end, but I was satisfied with the way it did. Good writing, good artwork. Looking forward to the next volume. I want to see where it goes from here.
