Men of S.W.A.T. #1

Tactical Pleasure

Rate this book
Sometimes a man just has to take matters into his own hands...

Miranda White has had a crush on S.W.A.T. team sniper John Stephens since he first strode into Fitzy’s Diner. Too bad he’s a serial dater. As a respected business owner, she doesn’t need to become known around town as his next Flavor Of The Month.

What she does need is a date for an upcoming retirement dinner for one of Haven’s finest. If she has anything to say about it, it won’t be the notorious bad boy.

John definitely has something to say about Randa’s plan to date one of his teammates. He’s had the hots for her since he first sank his teeth into her sweet baked confections. She’s sexy and curvy in all the right places, and he fantasizes about tearing that polyester uniform from her lush body and showing her how versatile handcuffs can be.

He’d planned to take his time seducing her, but from their first touch, desire flares hot, hard and primal, temporarily making him forget that the one thing a police officer may not have is time…

This title has been previously published.

Warning: Contains a smoking-hot cop with a talent for keeping his eye on the target, and a sweet-baking heroine who might as well have that target painted on her curvaceous butt. Misuse of police-department-issued equipment, and one very slippery wading pool.

Not a bad short story--the characters were likable and fun loving, there were some funny moments in the book, the writing was enjoyable enough, there were some steamy, sexy moments, but...I got the feeling that although this is the first book in the series called Men of S.W.A.T, that somehow I was reading the second book. Characters (mostly cops and Miranda's sister) popped in and it was almost as if I should've known who they were and a little about their pasts, but that wasn't the case. The author did explain who they were, but I still had a sense as though I was missing something. Very strange.

Anyway, in a nutshell, this was a story about a pretty, vivacious, plus-sized diner owner named Miranda, and her relationship with the object of her affection, policeman John Stevens. Miranda's friends with all the cops who like to hang out at her diner--she's friendly, a good listener and everyone's pal. There's one sexy cop who she'd like to be more than friends with though, and that's ladies' man Johnny. But, as much as she'd like to see if he lives up to his 'hot stuff' reputation, she doesn't want to ruin their friendship or risk her heart by becoming just another notch on his bedpost. What Miranda doesn't know is that John has recently developed some pretty big feelings for the voluptuous 'Randa', but he can't get her to take him seriously and give him the time of day. But all it takes is both of them accidentally tumbling into her backyard pool and sharing a heated kiss to get Miranda to give John a chance. Will he break her heart or is he sincere about his feelings?

I really liked Miranda and John, but I wish I knew a little more about them. That's often the problem with novellas--not enough time to fully develop the characters. In this case since I liked them so much, it became frustrating to not see them fully fleshed out, because a lot of time was devoted to the sex scenes, which were pretty hot, but I wanted to know more about the H/h. Much is made of Randa's "big butt", "generous curves", and "bountiful breasts". I got the feeling that Randa considered herself "fat", but John seemed to have no problem with it--he loved her "curves" and he certainly had no problems carrying her and placing her just where he wanted her during their hot love scenes...

So, a novella with a lot of potential, likable characters, and a quick, hot story. If you don't mind the lack of character development and a pretty simple plot, then this one may be for you. Maybe the second book in the series Tactical Maneuver, will answer some of my questions about the supporting characters. 3 1/2 stars.

Miranda (Or Randa as everyone calls her) is a curvaceous waitress in her family's diner which the local police always frequent, this is where she knows the town's playboy John. She has always fancied him, but has never wanted to do anything about it, because of his reputation and she didn't want to be another notch on his gun belt.
John has had his eye on Miranda since the minute he saw her, he has hinted to her that they should be together, but she has never took him seriously. It is only when she asks about a fellow officer that he is determined that she is not with anyone else.
I found his behaviour when she asked about the fellow officer, to be quite annoying - how he can be annoyed at her for wanting to date other people when he is a serial dater is beyond me.
I found both characters to be quite annoying and I didn't really connect with them at the start - but as the story went on, I started to like them more, once I realised that John had a real reason to be jealous.
The story line felt a little rushed, but I think this may be because of it being a novella - the only major thing that I didn't like (hence the four not five stars) is that the ending felt the most rushed, I felt like the ending didn't have much thought about it and it was just thrown in there. This is just a personal opinion, it didn't ruin the book though - I still loved it.
I refuse to call this erotica (in my sense of erotica) - there are a few sexual scenes which have a lot of description with them (hence the review on this blog).
I loved the fact that the main thing that drew John to Randa was her curves, even though his other 'girlfriends' have been stick thin. I love that the author put this into the book.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Randa has lusted after John ever since she started working in her aunt's diner. Pouring her heart and soul into making the diner a success once again, she's hasn't dated anyone in a long time and crossing the friendship line with some of the customers is not something she wants to do, even if Johnny is sex on a stick.

Johnny has a reputation as a serial dater and Randa is looking for a long term romance and she doesn't want to trust her heart to a man who won't treasure it. What she doesn't know is that John has lusted after her for just as long.

When an accident one summer afternoon breaks the ice between them, there is no stopping what fate has in store for them.

Miranda White needs a date for an upcoming retirement dinner but if she has anything to say about it, it won’t be the notorious bad boy no matter how big of a crush she has on him in this riveting contemporary romance.

John definitely has something to say about it and the reader can’t help but enjoy the delightfully steamy romance as Miranda makes John forget that the one thing a police officer may not have is time. The chemistry is sizzling and the romance is sweet with some excitement thrown in as an assignment goes wrong in this well written and fast paced plot that captivates readers with romance, suspense and compelling characters.

The story may be short but it is a delightful and enjoyable quick read.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is an enjoyable quick read, about friends who realise there should be a whole lot more to their relationship. I love some of the scenes, when they don't get quite what they were expecting! We are thrown into quite a significant community with lots of characters very quickly, which feels a bit rushed - and then have some lovely languid scenes which are delicious. The ending was sudden and unexpected, but as the first in a series, reasonably satisfying.

I am not really sure how to review this book... I was hoping for... "plot" and only got sex.... and a fast paced book. Within two days they are together, getting married and NEVER ended up at this "party" that was the premiss of the summary in the book....

I know this is a 20 min read... but, I just couldn't move on from the man-whore. Just don't like it. At all. So, this was a DNF at the end of chapter 2. I knew how this was going to end... so what was the point?

John Stephens, S.W.A.T. team sniper. Miranda White, waitress. They've both secretly have had the hots for each other but he's got a rep for being a lady's man and she doesn't want to be another notch on his gun holster. She needs a date for a upcoming party, and he's none too happy of who she chooses to take. A hot kiss and a pool are all it takes to have her changing her mind.

Short and sweet. That's the prefect description for Tactical Pleasure. I had this book read in a hour and it was quite the nice introduction to author J.C. Wilder for me. Randa is just so adorably cute and so is Johnny. They are a bit stereotyped; her being the sweetheart favorite local waitress and him being a womanizing cop, but the story still works. There were a few LOL oopsie moments. One involving a plastic pool. The other involved being caught like a couple of teenagers in the back of his truck. To balance out the giggles is the right amount of steamy heat when Johnny and Randa get down to business. Besides Randa and Johnny, there's a handful of secondary characters that you can easily see will have their own stories in the future. Despite a predictable ending, Johnny’s a cop so you have to have the token dangerous event, the HEA was all you could wish for.

If you're look for something short and sweet with just the right amount of heat, then look no further than Tactical Pleasure by author J. C. Wilder!

Swat Team sniper John Stephens has been longing for waitress Miranda White for months. She feels the same way about him. What’s standing in their way? His reputation as a womanizer. As sexy as he is – and as horny as she is- that’s not enough to ignore the fact that she doesn’t want to become just another conquest.

From the first sentence, I was all in. The writing is very good, and the dialogue is very entertaining. Wilder has very vivid descriptions, and I was totally drawn into the story. The background was explained nicely, without one single hint of boredom (not one time did I yawn or skip paragraphs). I related to the characters, and couldn’t wait to see how their relationship would play out. Fortunately – and unfortunately – I didn’t have to wait long. The story is very short, and during the period of reading when I’m usually geared up to read about the first kiss, the relationship had progressed extensively and the book was over. I didn’t pay attention to the fact that it is a novella, so the shock is totally on me. This has the makings of a wonderful full-length. I so wish it had been.

Despite it’s brevity, and the fact that there were no guns drawn, shots ringing out, or kidnap situation (as the tricky little title and cover had me thinking), it was a really good story. I recommend it to novella lovers!

I loved Tactical Pleasure by J C Wilder it had its hooks in me from the first page and I can only hope that there are many more books to read in this series.

Miranda White has had the hots for S.W.A.T sniper John Stevens since the day he walked into her diner. Only problem was so did most of the other women in town and Miranda didn’t want to be just another hook up.

John Stevens is good at his job he doesn’t miss, pity the same thing can’t be said about his personal life. John has a bit of a reputation with the town's women but it is not by choice. He only truly wants one woman in his bed if only she would stop saying no and give him a chance. But all if that is about to change!!

When Miranda asks John to help her get one of his friends to be her date to a function John is determined the only person putting their hands on Miranda will be him. John intends to make Miranda see just how good they are for each other but Miranda will need to trust John enough if she truly wants a chance at happiness.

3 1/2 STARS!

This was a short, sexy read. There's not a huge storyline, but what's there is fun. Their chemistry is hot!

Miranda White is friendly with all of the cops that hang out at the diner she runs with her sister, but there's something special about John. She's crushed on him since she first met him, but she doesn't want to be another notch on his post and the newest Flavor of the Month on his long list of women.

John Stephens has the hots for Randa as well. He would love to get his hands on her curvy body, but she keeps turning him down when he asks her out. When she asks him for info about a fellow S.W.A.T. member, he sees red.

Can Johnny convince her that he wants more than another warm body?

My Review of Tactical Pleasures by J.C. Wilder
My Rating 3.5 Stars

This story line was awesome, and we were given a BBW in a great short story.
Miranda and Johnny’s story I would have loved to watch the characters grow some and the story progress a bit slower. However I did enjoy their little romp of a whirlwind romance and will look forward to more from this author.

In this story John Stephens, a S.W.A.T. team sniper is attracted to waitress Miranda White. He likes the way her waitress uniform hugs her curves. He would like to date her, but his reputation as a serial dater is not helping his cause any. He now must come up with a way to win her over to his side. This is a quick read and a fun story. Nothing to serious. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 3 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

Very sweet, it's a short story with a happy ever after and some hot sex in the middle.
I liked the characters and want to read more about the other officers.
Of course, since it's a short story, it all was rushed but overall it was good.

I really liked this story, just wish it would have been longer, it's a very short read.

There was so much between Rand and John, but it was a rushed romance, however, it was funny and a really good read. I would have given it a 4, possibly 5 if it would've been longer.
