Chloe and Konrad relocate to the Isle of Man from London. For Chloe initially, life on the island is like living in the back of beyond, plus it's hilly, wet and unfriendly. Had a good chuckle over the 'sound sensitive sociopath', the 'why don't you get a bicycle' and other humourous snippets.

The main focus of the book is about Chloe, her relationships and working life. I enjoyed most of the book as it was interesting and engaging. However, when Chloe starts looking back on her younger self, I di

Can women have it all? What price success and happiness? What is the role and identify of women in early 21st Century in Western society?

Chloe finds herself on the Isle of Man – an island in the fierce and unforgiving Irish Sea – with her husband Konrad, they have relocated for Digital, his new employer. By birth she is Danish, but has spent much of her life in buzzy London, so this quiet island is going to be a challenge, there is no doubt. She is destined for expat life on a rocky outcrop, roc

I found THE COSMOPOLITAN ISLANDER to be absolutely riveting! I started reading it one night after supper with every intention of reading just a few chapters for that evening and could not put it down. Not only is it an entertain and captivating story with well-drawn characters who you grow attached to quite quickly, but it is also pulls us in to Chloe’s life and her new experiences… I almost felt like I was watching a movie with how descriptive the writing was, and I like how the author combines ...more

First off, I need to say, as far as the writing goes, this book is a FIVE STAR. When choosing the four-star rating, I looked at the rating system of Amazon. Four stars, according to their words means "I like it" and five stars means "I love it." Here on Goodreads, it's a bit different. Three Stars means "I liked it." Four stars is "Really like it" and Five stars is "It was amazing."

Well, I didn't love it...I didn't think the reading experience was amazing, but I did like it. It is a five star a

I’ve completed a review on The Cosmopolitan Islander by M.P. Tonnesen

I really had fun reading this book. It begins with her current husband Konrad getting a transfer to a company called Digital, and her relocation to an island in the Irish Sea. Coming from busy London to a small island really showed her sea legs and her suffering from culture shock until she settled in with a group of women, the Digi Divas, where she found commonality and somewhat of a social life. Chloe was Danish born and the

What a great book. The writing is beautiful, the development of the main character is amazing, and the whole premise behind the story is inspiring. It is great to see Chloe, the main character, develop from someone who lives based on the expectations of others to someone who lives for her own happiness. It is definitely inspiring and demonstrates how important it is to live your life for *you* and not for others. I would highly recommend this book.

wow, I loved this book and read the whole thing in one week, which is fast for me, because I have no free time these days! But it just seemed to go by so fast and I never wanted to stop reading it, even late into the evening. I was mesmerized by the world M.P. Tone writes about creates, one so realistic and authentic, yet something a Kansas gal like myself will probably never experience. Appreciated the little details that showed how different the way of life is there, I’ve never heard of the Ma ...more

For me, author voice is almost everything, and it will make or break a book and my enjoyment of it. I need to hear originality and know that the author is not trying to sound or write like someone else, but is telling HER story in a while new way, whatever that story may be. I feel like I can smell a fake a mile away, and believe me I’ve read my fair share of books from authors who are ‘trying’ to emulate better, more accomplished authors. What impressed me the most here was that I thought that ...more

What a journey!
Chloe, her husband Konrad, and their young son move from London to the Isles of Man, due to her husband’s relocation.
Chloe is well-educated, strong and smart. She’s lived her life in buzzing cities all over the world, and relocating to a small, quiet island is a challenge for her.

Through M.P Tonnesen’s writing we go on a wonderful journey of self-discovery with Chloe, as we jump back and fourth between the present and the past, so we as readers and outsiders get a sense of how

For me, “The Cosmopolitan Islander” by M.P. Tonnesen was a bit convoluted at times, and took a while to really get going and get me hooked; I really feel like the beginning was too slow with too much narrative telling. But I do think it kept getting better as it went along. I am a big fan of “New Beginnings” type books, and it I appreciate the lengths the author went through to make her book stand out from much of the typical fare out there these days by incorporating real life experien

I am of mixed feelings on this book, “The Cosmopolitan Islander” by M.P. Tonnesen. On one hand it is so entertainingly original and sexy and fun combines several cool themes and elements that were both unexpected and also richly enhanced the storyline as opposed to just making it about a woman (family) who relocates to another part of the world and tries to fit in. But there were also parts that I thought were too slow-paced (needless dialog or scenes) and the overall tension was lacking that wo ...more

"The Cosmopolitan Islander” by M.P. Tonnesen is a very compelling read, and one that surprised me with its depth and the fact that it really took on some social issues that women (and men) face and the tough choices a woman in the modern age must face with balancing career, family, friends, love, etc… . M.P. Tonnesen infuses a great blend of humor, adventure, family life & friends, and political and cultural drama. The story itself was fairly even-paced, but I thought the beginning was a bit ...more

I really enjoyed “The Cosmopolitan Islander” by M.P. Tonnesen and didn’t want to put it down. As I read this book I really began to care about the characters and was anxious to see how things would turn out for them, and that made it all the more interesting! I thought sometimes the narrative went on too long though and would have liked to see more forward progression through dialogue instead of just reading about everything. And sometimes I didn’t feel like we needed to know “everything” about ...more

The Cosmopolitan Islander” by M.P. Tonnesen set in modern day Isle of Man, when the main character Chloe and her husband Konrad move from London to start a new life. But sometimes starting over in a new place isn’t very easy, and it is with this challenges this story really takes off as we explore Chloe’s newfound life, friends, lovers, and identity. It does take a lot to really impress me these days, but there were at least several times in this book that I was caught off guard and surprised, o ...more

I admit I had no real expectations when starting “The Cosmopolitan Islander” by M. P. Tonnesen, seeing as how I’d never read the author before and the description felt a bit generic to me. But before I knew it I was so immersed in this book and impressed with the level of detailing on almost every single aspect. A lesser author would have glossed over some of these scenes that Ms. Tonnesen carefully and masterfully brought to life in a memorable way. While not a perfect literary masterpiece (nor ...more

I really liked “The Cosmopolitan Islander” by M.P. Tonnesen admittedly much more than I was actually expecting to! (love the cover too!). It is excellently-written with an easy, natural flow to the prose, descriptive, and fun. Very atmospheric and we feel like we are there on the Island with the author and the other characters. I won’t rehash the setup, but Tonnesen pulls us in to the story right from the start, and skillfully narrates a wide-ranging storyline full of complex and deeply emotiona ...more

"The Cosmopolitan Islander” by author M.P. Tonnesen is one of the most original and well-crafted books I’ve read in a long time! I was completely drawn in from the get-go, and absolutely loved the author’s use of description of the different scenery and locales, and her attention to character detail. I’ve always wanted to visit Isle of Man and now I feel like I was practically there! This is more of a self-discovery, character driven novel versus some sort of high-action and stakes type, more li ...more

I thought that “The Cosmopolitan Islander” was fabulous— a real breath of fresh air! What lovely prose and vivid atmosphere M.P Tonnesen weaved into this fun and creative and unique book! After reading the book then re-reading the description I feel like the synopsis doesn’t do it justice. Often times I read books, usually I either like the dialogue, and the narrative seems flat (or too telling and long-winded) or the prose is good, but the conversations seem contrived and stiff. But I loved how seamlessly everything flowed in “The Cosmopolitan Islander” by M.P. Tonnesen with the balance between the two nicely as this made it feel authentic and well- paced, like we are watching a movie or something. "The Cosmopolitan Islander” is wonderful book in which M.P. Tonnesen sweeps the reader away into another life and world. She also has the ability to keep the reader totally engaged throughout the entire story, and that is no small feat considering the various of multi layered plotlines, diverse set of characters, and wildly fluctuating scenery and events... The ending is nice, although I was sad when it was all over. Good characters… good writing… good plots… wish there was more. A nice, light r ...more

Tonnesen’s writing style and easy, natural pacing. Chloe is an interesting lead, and the interweaving plotlines were well-crafted and not predictable. This was such a fun, enlightening, and sexy book to read! I really liked the author’s unique writing voice and how the relationships play out throughout the course of the book. I thought it was well-written and very dramatic. Definitely more on the emotional side (not ‘action-packed’, per say) but with some light and sweet moments as well. I like that it doesn’t take itself too serious, yet is engaging and intelligent enough to keep my interest from beginning to end. But the story itsel

M. P. Tonnesen's 'The Cosmopolitan Islander' offers a look at the choices woman are faced with in determining what will bring them true happiness, and a reminder that it's okay to make changes as you grow. We make choices, make mistakes, and then make new choices, all in an effort to grow into the people we are meant to become, and like Rome, we can't be built in a day... it's a lifelong process to achieve.

Though there were times I found the reading a tad slow, overall 'The Cosmopolitan Islander

Chloe and husband Konrad move from London to the Isle of Man with their young son, where Konrad's job has relocated them. She soon finds herself in "uncharted territory".

The Cosmopolitan Islander delves into Chloe's relationship with Konrad, her new friends in the Digi Diva's group, her mother, and herself. An Interesting read. Highly recommended!

Fist of all I want to thank the author who provided a copy of her book for an honest review.

When I started reading I was very excited and read maybe a third of the book in one sitting. I liked that the novel discusses interesting questions that I ask mysellf as well. But somehow I expected that the novel dicusses the main character's live on the Isle of Man and so I was a bit irritated that there where a lot of flashbacks to Chloe's time in University. Despite the fact that I'm a student myself

First off, I want to thank the author for providing me with a copy of her novel in exchange for an honest review.

For me this book was just okay. I liked the premise and thought it had a lot of potential, but something just failed to grab me the way I thought it should. Something that struck me was the overall tone of the book…it was written well, but there was no real tension or higher stakes pulling us forward. Also, I thought there was too much “telling” of events instead of “showing”, and was always kept at arm’s length from the action…like it was happening around me but not to me, if you know what I me ...more
