Beau is riding like the two-time champ that he is, but nothing is assured in the world of bull riding–not happiness, not wealth, and not survival.

Beau is a two-time champion bullrider who is working on his third title. Sam is his long-time lover and traveling partner, who is feeling the sting of having just about the worst season he can remember. The two of them are on the

I am a huge fan of the Roughstock series. Ever since the first book, Roughstock: Blind Ride, I’ve been hooked on B.A. Tortuga’s cowboys. So it was really a no-brainer when I noticed that this book was available to review. Ever since Beau and Sam’s appearance in the beginning of the series, I’ve wondered about Beau, the sexy Cajun bullrider, and when I saw that the third book, Roughstock: File Gumbo Season One, was about him and his lover, Sam, I knew I was in for a real treat indeed!

This latest installment in the Roughstock series features bullriders Beau and Sam. They've been lovers for years and have been quite happy until recently. But now Beau is on his way to winning his third championship and Sam is having a really bad year. Injury after injury and nasty comments from some of the other bullriders is beginning to wear on Sam. Adding in the everyday stress of life on the rodeo circuit and trying to help out their friends tests the strength of their relationship.

Bull riders have to be tough and determined if they want to be successful. Sam and Beau are both, and it comes in very helpful whether they face their competitors in the arena of the rodeo circuit or the difficulties of making a mostly hidden relationship work. This third story in the ‘Roughstock’ series begins at the same time as some of the events in the previous book but focuses on two of the guys who have so far only been in the background. Coke and Dillon from book two are back, and so are ...more

Same title & author that a tale part of Cherry Anthology, but isn't the same story. That short story was later retitled as Starting the Roux.

I liked that first story a lot.

In this book we sink again in Sam & Beau's life. Let me say that for two rough cowboys, partnered years and years ago, their mutual infatuation is excessive until hyperglycemia. Because of that I skimmed several pages and I was about to give it up.

Fortunately there's a twist in chapter 25 and the plot becomes a melodrama. I

I am a huge fan of this series, but I really struggled with this disjointed story. While Beau and Sam are the central characters, the first third of the story reads like a catch-up with characters from earlier books. I enjoyed the first two stories, so this isn’t too much of a hardship but I found myself confused by the initial onslaught of character names and nicknames. Characters appeared or were discussed - but they weren’t re-introduced in this book. My memory is good, but not perfect. Andy ...more

While Dillon is taking care of Coke (from And a Smile), who’s healing from his injury, Sam and Beau head to AJ’s ranch to check on Jason and Andy (from Blind Ride). They now have Jason’s secret to keep. When Sam and Beau see Jason ride the bulls, they can’t believe how good he’s doing. They’re willing to call in some trusting friends to help out with the plan for Jason to make it back to the circuit.

Sam “Poot” Bell really wants to be home. Dogs, horses and most of all Beau—that’s where his heart

This is the third book in the series - and I really enjoyed the first two, so was delighted to get a chance to read this one.

We get a good catch up on all the previous characters, so even if you haven't read the series for a while, you will soon get back into the gang and their fun names and habits. The big difference with this story is that these two men have been quietly together for years, so rather than trying to ge

One of the things I’ve enjoyed about this series is that when the books overlap, we learn new things about previous events because we see them from another character’s point of view. One of the things I don’t like about this series is that at least one of the book’s main characters gets hurt, usually pretty badly. But that’s the way of the rodeo circuit – men get hurt and sometimes men get killed. While none of the character

This series just keeps getting better! Unlike the first two books, File Gumbo features an already established relationship and I really enjoyed the dynamic that they had. Beau and Sam have been together for years and that shows in their interactions both in and out of the arena despite the fact that they felt the need to hide that they were together. I do find it a little sad that the men of this series seem to be living under their own version of Don’t

: I have been waiting for Beau and Sam’s story for a while. There is just something extra special about these two men. They have been together for a long time. Though they aren’t shouting from the rafters they aren’t actually hiding either.
Beau is the big champ right now especially with Jase out injured. Sam isn’t doing well at all and is barely making it good enough to stay in the events with Beau. Sam is beginning to tire of people thinking Beau is keeping him and saying that he is riding on

This is my favorite book in this series so far.

BA Tortuga has a way of making the reader jump into the pages and like part of he book. In being able to do so I was able to feel all of the pain and heartache that the characters in this book was able to feel. I was able to feel the fear and the guilt. I was able to feel the love and the acceptance. I was also able to the way each of the characters in this series was family even though it was not by blood.

I also love how BA Tortuga has taken such a

A very entertaining series. Lots of sex and sexy cowboys. I saw BA Tortuga's youtube video on the Roughstock men and the visuals were a great addition!

This book features 2 important secondary characters, Beau and Sam. You could almost argue they are the main characters of Roughstock.

Just good cowboy fun!

At first it was difficult to wrap my head around a character whose nickname is Poot, but these guys grew on me. They have a sweet, endearing relationship. I also enjoyed getting to catch up with Jason. My only complaint is that I wanted the story to continue. I need more of Beau and Sammy.
