Peter Schlesinger's first-hand account of his life in London in the late 60s and 70s with David Hockney and his eclectic, fascinating circle of friends - W.H.Auden, Christopher Isherwood, Paloma Picasso, Twiggy, Robert Mapplethorpe, Amanda Lear, Yves St. Laurent, Rudolf Nureyev, and many others - all photographed by Schlesinger and presented here with extended witty and gossipy captions, recounting their foibles and outrageous behavior.
Caught this browsing on Amazon and was intrigued enough to click it home. He was David Hockney's boyfriend in late 60s early 70s and his photos capture the art and social world they moved in. So in terms of subject matter he was in the right places: David painting some of his best work, Ossie Clark fashion shows, oh hi Paloma Picasso, oh off to South of France to stay with Tony Richardson and his party of actors, Bryan Ferry and Mick and Bianca drop by. Christopher Isherwood is here for tea....etc Also interesting as always to see Notting Hill back in the day, all shabby and bohemian. But, and it's a big but, the photos are crap. Interesting certainly, but how could they fail to be given the subject matter?
