Deputy Dani Savage would like nothing better than to shoot the wife beaters, carjackers, drug dealers, and all the rest of the low-life good ol’ boys that make policing Baptist Fl

This is a marvellous dark and violent crime thriller set in the Appalachian Mountains. If you have a penchant for the batshit crazy, outright carnage, the hilarious and the ridiculous in your crime, this novel, without a doubt, is for you. Deputy Dani Savage is one hell of a deputy, despite the countless denigrations she faces as a small woman, she has plenty of guts and is deeply committed to justice. She polices the out of control and riddled with crime, Baptist Flats, Tennessee. Her uncle is ...more

Holy Crackerdoodles--AWESOME!

This is a summer blockbuster with Appalachian Frodo and Sam. Kenny Fable is hysterical. Simple spoken, but teeming with ideas. Some are better than others, but funny. His partner, Step Crawford, the grumpy Gus of the duo has an eye on business. He's got the street smarts Kenny seems to be missing. Of course, sometimes things go sideways and then you have to improvise.

I have to admit that I wasn't that impressed in the beginning. I just didn't think so much about the story and hoped it would get better. I was not especially impressed by Step and Kenny the closeout kings and thought the story just didn't seem to be my cup of tea. Then, it started to get a bit more interesting and then the story blew me away!

Thanks to net galley.com, C. Hoyt Caldwell and Random House Publishing Group - Alibi for the advance arc copy for my honest review.

This was my first read from C. Hoyt Caldwell, what an awesome read 'Savage Reckoning' is, fell in love with his character Deputy Dani Savage and be warned it's not for the faint of heart.

This was my style of a read, it has sex, drugs, profane language violence, humor, it's fast paced, with an over load of twist and turns, tension filled, even have Caldwell throwing i

In his own words Caldwell isn't smart enough to be subtle so his work tends to be tasteless and gritty. He's not out to offend anyone, but he's also not to win anyone over, either. His stories are full of sex, violence, humor and heart.

Not my typical genre and at times I was a bit uncomfortable reading but evil is never and should never be put in a good light and when you think about it what is in this book is also in the bible. The bible was referenced quite a bit, not in a very good light but

Dani Savage is a deputy in a small, backwoods mountain town. When a woman begs Dani to help find her missing daughter, Dani discovers there are a lot of girls missing from the area and no one has ever bothered to investigate. She eventually finds herself teaming up with a couple of bumbling contract killers to unravel the mystery. This book is so well written and parts are laugh-out-loud funny. The character development is superb. I couldn't put it down.

A strange story that grows in intensity and suspense as you read it. The characters are drawn from the hills, but represent people that have much in common with all of us. Dani is a deputy who uncovers a deep problem that involves people at high levels throughout the world. I enjoyed watching the development of the character called Step, who probably is key to the whole plot. This is a keeper!

Great read!! This book has it all. I was laughing out loud through most of the book. Lots of action that keeps the pages flying by. There are a few sad bits thrown in also. Once you get started you will not want to put it down. Highly recommended!!

This is one of those cases where I’m thankful I was approved by NetGalley back in June for the ARC of Savage Reckoning. Why? Well, I started it twice and although I loved the synopsis and the setting of the book (I live in Tennessee), I was not in the right frame of mind/mood for the story!

What I liked: The setting, the characters, the sad plot but most of all the writing. Mr. Caldwell is an artist with words. The pictures he paints make you feel as if you’re right there as he’s writin

Alibi and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of Savage Reckoning. This is my honest opinion of the book.

Deputy Dani Savage, of Baptist Flats, Tennessee, polices in a community that is resistant to authority. Forced to reason with citizens who are unreasonable is just part of Dani's job description. Her "little deputy" nickname has sent her to the heavy bag in the station more than once. When the closeout kings, Kenny Fable and Step Crawford, are sent into town by their boss to commit

This book took me a while to get into. I am not sure if it was the authors writing style or the story its self but something didn't click.
Once I started to get the flow of the book I found it to be a fun read it was funny, disturbing and violent. However the humor helped to balance out the darker side of this story. The only thing that bothered me was the fact it made it seem like everyone in the south are Hillbillies. While it makes the story funny it is far from the truth.

Savage Reckoning is the first in a new thriller series by C. Hoyt Caldwell. This is my first time reading this author and it won't be the last. Dani Savage is a deputy in a small town in the Appalachian Mountains. She stumbles into a human trafficking case. I can't say the story gripped me from page one, but it definitely built and wouldn't let go. I found it surprisingly humorous at times. Lots of action, mystery, and twist you won't see coming. I'm looking forward to reading more in this serie ...more

Liked Dani but the mystery felt sort of trite (we've seen this theme a lot lately). It strains credulity to think this sort of thing could go on for so long without someone noticing and doing something before Dani arrived on the scene. That said, this is well written and there are bursts of humor that rescue it from total darkness. THanks to Netgalley for the ARC- I'd like to see more from Caldwell.

I found Savage Reckoning absolutely enjoyable! Mr Caldwell has given the reader some quirky characters, some currently on the wrong side of the law, but all interesting. Some funny scenes where I found myself laughing out loud. Hoping this is the start of a series. I was given an early copy to review.
