Soon after they fall in love, Jake makes Eric a promise inspired by an old track uniform. But demanding work schedules at Jake’s four-star restaurant and Eric’s newspaper keep them from following through. Dale Cameron Lowry lives in the Upper Midwest with a partner and three cats, one of whom enjoys eating dish towels, quilts, and wool socks. It’s up to you to guess whether the fabric eater is one of the cats or the partner. When not busy mending items destroyed by the aforementioned fabric eater, Dale enjoys writing gay romantic, erotic, and speculative fiction; wasting time on Tumblr; listening to Mormon-related podcasts; studying anatomy and neurophysiology; getting annoyed at Duolingo; and reading fairy tales.

Note about my involvement on Goodreads: I leave occasional reviews here and check in on conversations, but I don't connect with other users as "friends." This is because Goodreads is connected to Amazon. Amazon has a policy of removing reviews left by readers who know authors in real life. There's the potential for Amazon to misinterpret an internet relationship between myself and an author based on mutual literary interests as a real-life friendship, and thus to delete legitimate reviews on books I've actually read.

However, feel free to follow me and to ask me to follow you back. That's an alternative way for us to keep up with each other's reviews on Goodreads.

Thanks!

Two words for Dale Cameron Lowry’s “Loggerhead”: sweet. love.

Sweet in all the right ways. All the ways that remind you of the wonder of a deep, true love.

Loggerhead is an MM romance, with emphasis on the romantic.

Jake… Jake is adorable.

Eric, the narrator, remembers the moment he knew he was falling in love. They’re at Jake’s restaurant, Eric recalls, and:

“He turned to me at one point, holding a pair of carrots for me to inspect. They twined around each other like lovers – had somehow grown that way in the ground. I hid this from the line cooks because I wanted to show you, he said. This is what’s happening to my heart, with you.”

Authentic, genuine character interactions, excellent writing, and sweet romanticism make this an extremely enjoyable read.

This 7800 word short story emphasizes the importance of taking time to reconnect with your partner, of getting away from the daily grind to remember what made you fall in love in the first place.

For all its sweet romanticism, Loggerhead doesn’t have a high heat rating. It includes a somewhat graphic although relatively short sex scene, several blunt references to previous lovemaking sessions, and a bit of graphic dialogue about how each turns the other on. Plus some lovely mental imagery. I’d have liked to be on the beach to enjoy Jake’s tight buns in skimpy jogging shorts.

If you’re in the mood for an MM romance that paints a compellingly authentic portrait of a couple in love, check this one out.

Taking time to appreciate each other can be difficult for couples where each partner has a fulfilling career. Jake is busy being a chef in a restaurant, and Eric is a successful journalist. Time off is an almost unknown concept for both of them. But when after a usually supreme effort, they manage to get away, they enjoy reconnecting and focusing on each other. This story focuses on one particular trip to Florida, and let me tell you, things get very hot – and not just outside.

If you like stories about couples who reconnect, and if you’re looking for a read that is as hot as it is entertaining, then you might like this short story.
