Allen really outdid herself with this one. It's hard going into a third book with expectations and no way of knowing if you will be happy with how it all ends. This also makes reviewing this book super hard on me because there is so much that I would like to share that I just can't without ruining all three books. Even my quotes remained diverse in order to protect the amazing twists and turns that this book took, in order to ensure you get the best possible experience.

I mentally divided thi Allen really outdid herself with this one. It's hard going into a third book with expectations and no way of knowing if you will be happy with how it all ends. This also makes reviewing this book super hard on me because there is so much that I would like to share that I just can't without ruining all three books. Even my quotes remained diverse in order to protect the amazing twists and turns that this book took, in order to ensure you get the best possible experience.

I mentally divided this book up. The first half, and then the second half. Saying this may be a waste of breath as many people do it, but I found a clear line with The Descendants. The first half seemed set to really pulling out Katrina and her relationships. I wont say with who but it wasn't just the romance part, but also family. This is also where Allen caught us up on the year that had passed between books (flashbacks included). The second half was where all of the action happened, and we really saw the what and why. However, I don't want you to mistake my words and believe that any part of this was a slow read. Allen does things in such a way that you are drawn to each page, and desire to know what happens on the next one. I have never had a complaint about pacing with these novels and this was no different. I just found that Allen made sure the needed relationships and mystery was added before she tore into the juicy bits of all of the secrets.

What we all really want to see as we read and come to love a character is their growth. Katrina grows in each book. Sometimes she gets more depth in an area she already showed improvement on, and other times she just takes that next step towards becoming something greater. Katrina has the sensibility to question things before she leaps, but she is also human and sometimes makes decisions based on what her heart says, not her head. She also has this beautiful ability to forgive people and see past the hurt that has been caused, and accepting that sometimes people make the wrong decision but find their way back to the right. I love that she is both strong willed, devoted to those around her and had developed a sense of community for a place she was learning was really home. Katrina is a character that I would love to read more of, or maybe see where life takes her when she's older...

I was happy how everything turned out romantically in this one. There were moments that I though I might not enjoy the romance, then some irritation built, but that wasn't so much Katrina and being indecisive but more the circumstances. With much of the start of this one often coming back to the romance and how Katrina was going to handle things, I had a lot of time to decide how I wanted them to turn out. There were times that my heart went out to one person or the other, and other times that I thought Katrina was going to lose more than it was worth. Thankfully I was often wrong, but that is another kudos to this author, or maybe it's due to my reading anxiety when I really want things to go the way I want them to....

The Descendants was worth the wait. With an ending that wrapped everything up but left things wide open for another book, I am sure that I am only one of many that will eagerly await more from this author. These books created a place that I would love to see and characters that will not be easily forgotten. I have no problem recommending these books to people that enjoy mythology and want something different. Being honest I would just recommend them to anyone that wants a good read, and something that steps out of the norm (oh and still wants a stunning cover).

What an amazing conclusion of K.K. Allen's Summer Solstice Series.

Book #2, The Equinox, left us with the sudden departure of Jhonny, Kat's love interest, and the long lost return of Kat's Father, Paul. Fast forward a year and a half and we begin Book #3, The Descendants. The inevitable return of Erabus, the God of Darkness, is in the thoughts of everyone, and on what havoc he could wreak at any moment.

Meanwhile, life goes on and it is the Winter Solstice, and the Apollo Beach High School's Arcti What an amazing conclusion of K.K. Allen's Summer Solstice Series.

The book bounces back and forth between the past and present. It is in this way that we learn about things that lead up to now. Such as what happened after Paul's arrival and how he started building a relationship with his daughter, Kat.

We don't have to wait long until Erabus appears. He can't resist crowds, or his pawn, Kat. A life hangs in the balance as he threatens Kat to get the information he wants, or else she'll be saying goodbye to the ones she loves. There is also the return of someone else.

Will they be able to save a life, and will that be the key to stopping Erebus? Read to find out!!! It's worth every word!!!

This is all I am going to say on the content of the book, as I don't want to spoil anything for anyone!

I have come to really LOVE this series. K.K. Allen has done a tremendous job. The balance between that good and evil is expertly written as is the tie-in of Greek Mythology. The books are very emotional, her descriptions and writing style really enable you to feel everything the characters are going through. It's a magical world the she has woven. One that I am sad to leave. I just hope and pray that her last words... THE END... FOR NOW... hold true, and that there is hope for more to come in the future. I for one, am eager to see the story continue! I promise to re-visit Apollo Beach often! ...more

I've said it before and I'll say it again. This series is magical. Allen's first two books in the series were something spectacular, and the finale does not disappoint. I was a bit worried at first when you find out so much time has passed between the second and third book, but she does an amazing job at filling you in on the past without seeming like we're stuck in it.

Ahhhhh!!! This is for SURE the best book in this series, and it is AWESOME. Katrina is so much more mature in this installment, and her confidence makes her such a badass protagonist. Wow...just wow! This book was so amazing! I have a major book hangover now thanks to Allen but no regrets. Definitely my favorite book of the series and it is going to be so dang hard to write this review without blabbing every spoiler there is to give because oh my gosh so much happened.

Kat is trying to live her life as normally as she can after Johnny left and her Dad returned. Erebus is doing everything in his power to get to her and her family and friends are trying to protect her, like she needs to be protected. She finds out some secrets that and sets a plan in motion to take on Erebus, alone. Will she be able to save everyone that she cares for before it's too late?

Okay so I'm not going to lie, I think Johnny also broke my heart when he left at the end of the second book. I was also devastated so I wasn't sure how I was going to be able to read this book. Thankfully I made myself read it anyway with the hopes that Allen could mend both of our hearts. I love the romance in this book, it's not so much that it takes away from the story but it's not so little that I'm screaming at the book. It's a good balance of magic, romance and family bonding to make it an amazing book.

Normally I hate when books tell stories through memories but it works in this book. It helped move the story along and answered a lot of questions. I loved the relationship that has grown between Kat and Rose, it was so sweet to witness. The bond that was formed between Kat and her dad was surprising but a nice surprise. Not sure I would have been as forgiving as Kat but that's a good thing.

This book was a lot more action packed than the previous too and I loved it. It was also more suspenseful, not going to lie it had my heart beating fast a time or two. There was a plot twist thrown in there that I really did not see coming, bravo Allen for pulling one over on me.

This is one of the best series' that I have ever read and seriously want everyone to read it. I highly recommend it to everyone that needs a little magic in their lives. ...more

The Descendants is a fantastic addition to The Summer Solstice Series. I absolutely love submersing myself into the enchanting world K.K. Allen has created with this series. I could see myself reading it again sometime. This book brings forth a ton of juicy information that may have been foreshadowed a bit in the prior books. It is also more action-packed and suspenseful. Don't be surprised if this book makes you shed a tear or two, but it may also make you melt with happiness and love.

Finally, K.K. Allen’s third book of The Summer Solstice Series, The Descendants, is here. And, it did not disappoint!

This third book was very enjoyable, I loved it just as much as the first two. There is romance, magic, beaches, mermaids, evil... a little something for everyone. I loved the family connections between all the generations on Summer Island. There are some great surprises in this one and I was in tears toward the end. Sweet Summer Series

I love YA mythology books and K.K. Allen has written an engaging and sweet contemporary mythology trilogy. I would recommend this to my friends with upper middle school and young high school students as it's a tween/teen appropriate story that intertwines a sweet romance with the story but in a way that shows age-appropriate healthy relationship boundaries and empowered female characters.
